The first army list larger than 1000 points that I feel comfortable presenting. For feedback, I want to keep the Emperor's Fist Formation and its associated tanks, as I'm a total treadhead and I want to have lots of vehicles, but not so many that I turn the battlefield into a parking lot. The idea here was an approximately 50/50 balance of tanks and support. Otherwise, everything from the type of Leman Russ, to the wargear configuration, to the upgrades, to the infantry, to the air support is all up for change. If I'm breaking any rules, please give me a page reference so I can look it up. Thanks!
Strategy:
I got the Warlord in a heavy tank granting BS4 to all other tanks (optimally) as well as being able to order the entire formation to strike-and-shroud at once. Said Warlord also serves as a heavy
AT unit. I gave both Vanquishers plasma sponsons so they could target infantry without wasting points on heavy bolters that would do nothing to enemy tanks (their primary target). Exterminator is my specialized anti-infantry tank, and cruises with the Vanquishers when possible for BS4. But, it doesn't need the splitfire order to hit different targets since it's technically it's own unit. The two
LRBTs can brake away from the formation when circumstances require without losing much accuracy, being large-blast template droppers. Two techpriests give me redundancy and, when all the tanks are in formation, will grant everyone a reroll to the damage table while also healing hull points. If the
LRBTs need be deployed separately due to terrain or something, one Techpriest can follow them to continue giving bonuses while the other stays with the Vanquishers and exterminators. And, of course, the entire formation doesn't ACTUALLY need to be a line. It can be any number of shapes as long as the tanks are 12" away from the warlord.
The Line infantry are disposable yet valuable: I can run them in front of the tanks to tarpit incoming charges, or scattered around the rear to stop point-blank deep strike flank assaults. They can cap objectives, give the tanks & priests a 5+ cover save, and add extra shots to the Exterminator's anti-infantry fire. The Platoon Command Squad does all the same, but is kitted out to troubleshoot
MC and deep strike problems slightly better than the individual squads. Also orders. Orders are nice.
The
PCS riding in the Vendetta and the Veterans in the Chimeras are my rear and midfield objective takers respectively. The Vendetta doubles as my
AA platform (Exterminator can help but is firing snap shots) and my aerial
AT, and the Chimeras double as extra anti-infantry and general flank protectors. The
PCS doubles as my point-blank melta problem solvers with "Bring it Down", and the Veterans get flamers to clear enemy infantry off the points. All of these troops are BS4 with 4+ Armor, giving them slightly better independence at the expense of being, well, expensive.
