Seems my friends have recently left Warhammer for warmachine, so I decided to give it a shot. I've ordered the Legion of Everblight: Battlegroup Starter off of Atomic Empiire and was wondering if people have any good ideas of what models I should pickup to make a decent army. I know my friends are playing with colossus critters, so was looking for some help from more knowledgeable people.

If you get a battlebox, I recommend the new one, not the old one. You'll probably want things with the new rules and cards.

I got PIP 73056? Hope that's the new one.

You might not be aware, but Warmachine is going through an edition change. Like, right now. Digital release of the new rules has happened, physical copies in the next couple of weeks. The new battle boxes will be out then.

You probably have the old one. Which will be useable, but you'll need new rules and cards. The first new boxes were handed out on Saturday night and I'm not sure they are available online or anything yet.

So yeah, check out these forums and the PP ones and do a little research.

Looks like the new boxes come out on the 29th? Officially?

So I guess I should wait till then, since I can't seem to find the free mk3 rules and not sure how to even begin setting up an army with them.

Primal

Note the rules for both games are found in both books. And these are simply the rule books, and do not include any of the model rules/cards like the full hardback book does.

Conflict Chamber appears to have a mk3 list building tool ready to go.

To find out about the actual rules for the models you will need to either buy the models, the new card decks or get the new War Room 2 app and buy the cards that way (app is free, but it costs to unlock more than a few basic cards). At this point that is probably going to be the quickest and most reliable way to get the newest rules. I think it is $7 to get the cards for one faction so not unreasonable if you want them now. Oh, I think this may include the rulebook as well. But I haven't confirmed that.

http://privateerpressforums.com/showthread.php?252505-War-Room-2-FAQ

It is available for Android, Apple and Kindle.

You should have no problem getting the older models for the most part. Though you'll probably get old cards and need to get the new ones somehow. The newer stuff will come out, but will also be really popular. I've heard rumors that the second boat full of the new stuff is already sold out. But that probably means distributors, not to individual gamers. So you can probably pre-order on most websites or in your store.

Hope that all helps to point you in the right direction.

I got the ipad app, haven't gotten the cards yet, since I didn't have the rules...

Couple questions: The battlebox I got (mk2 legions of everblight) says Hordes on it, does that mean I can't play it in Warmachine?

What's the difference between the Primal and Prime rules?

The rules are compatible, they use the same system. The difference between the two is that, prime is primarily for warmachine and primal is for Hordes, in the digital versions this means nothing, both have the rules for both games. The printed books will have diffrence example cards depending on the game, different stories and whatnot.

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.

All the rulebook have the rules needed to play both games though. They are essentially the same game. Warmahordes.

Will I have a problem running Legion of Everblight in warmachine games though, like lack of colossus's or somesuch? Sorry, I'm completely new to model gaming outside of 5th/6th edition warhammer.

Hordes have their own equivalent (XXL-Warnouns) called Garganuans. Also having the XXL-guys isn't essential to the game, at least in MK2.

(1). The games are 100% compatible. You can freely play hordes aemies against warmachine armies. The only real differences is in warmachine, you use warcasters and warjacks, in hordes you use warlocks and war beasts. How they 'fuel' their magic and jacks/beasts is different, but they use exactly the same rules.

(2)" primal is for hordes. Prime is for warmachine. Do you need Both? No, but the fluff is nice.

Nope. You'll be fine. Hordes have analogues to the colossals, and the game is generally built along the principles of 'yes, I can kill that'. Colossals are essentially one and two thirds worth of warjacks hit points in a single hull. If you can scrap two jacks, you can scrap a colossal. And hordes beasties can kill two jacks.

This right here is why I'm a little disappointed that they didn't use the new edition as an excuse to get rid of the two names. The way they separate Warmachine and Hordes in marketing obviously does confuse people.

But yeah, they're the same game. The distinction is basically just that the Warmachine factions use some mechanics in common with each other (focus) while the Hordes factions use another (fury). The Hordes equivalent of colossals are called gargantuans and Legion actually has a pretty good one, the Blightbringer.

They can't separate them I'm afraid. Afaik Different people wrote them and own the rights. Essentially it's down to tedious legal reasons, not 'marketing'.

If you're interested in a wee tidbit of knowledge, hordes was actually written/designed first.

I think the various legalese is also why they don't officially refer to it as mk 3, 3rd edition, etc.

Sometimes laws are stupid and just make it harder.

On a good note however, they did incorporate the rules for both games into all the rules books. So even if you buy the Warmachine rulebook, it has the Hordes rules in an appendix. So there is that so we don't need to buy two books like the old edition.

I believe the new one is 73096. It contains Kryssa, Conviction of Everblight, 2 Shredder lesser warbeasts, 1 Nephilim Bolt Thrower light warbeast, and 1 Neraph heavy warbeast. The new boxes are not due out until June 29 and I've heard that many of them are already sold out.

The Hoards factions have their own super-sized models (for the Legion it's the Archangel Gargantuan) which are equivalent to the Warmachine Colossals.

Each warlock/warcaster brings a different feel to each setup, depending on your playstyle should determine what Warlock/warcaster you want to play. For LoEB, Ive always been a fan of the Hordes 2 player starter set, Legion side, Blighted Orgun warspears are very good, The warlock is good and you get a few light warbeasts. find alot of these sets on ebay.
