Hey there. I just started playing AoS (a hobby shop just opened in my town for the first time) and I have a question about turning models.

I know that attack distance is measured from some point on the model to another, which can include things like spear tips, wings, and other weapons. However, are there any rules for turning models so that this farthest point reaches whatever unit I am trying to attack? Take the Prosecutors for example. Can I just turn them sideways to increase their missile range by a full inch or so?

Thanks in advance! Sorry if this has already been discussed.

If you're playing model-to-model measuring you do not get free pivots, so say when making combat attacks you couldn't pivot a model to get closer in range.

However, this doesn't mean you have to do complex measuring of your models turning during the movement and pile-in phases. Place the tape measure down the direction you want to move and make sure no part of the model exceeds the final point.

Alternatively play base-to-base measuring. It works much better.

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Agree with Bottle. No single part of the model can move further than the movement characteristic

Take for example a Prosecutor which has wings that extend to each side. He is facing north and you travel his full movement distance. You can't then rotate him West because one of the wing tips will have travelled further than 12".

So rotating to make a difference in the shooting phase will ultimately make no difference because the wing tip can't move further than the rest of the body. Hope that makes sense.

Thanks for the response. That does make sense. However, what about being piled in? Am I allowed to turn models to ensure their farthest point is in range of whatever other model I want to attack?
