(Sry for my bad english its not my native Language)
Hi! I watched alot of Battlereports of Miniwargaming.com on Youtube and read the Core Rulebook and some Codecies (Its been some time since i last read them tho so i hope i get all the Rules correct) and since two of my friends played 6th Edition and earlier i would like to join them on WH40k but dont know how i should start my Army. I have to admit im someone who reads alot before purchasing and thinks ahead before buying (like maybe Play some Tournament games in Local Stores or the likes) so im trying to make my first Army a Little bit Competitive and im torn between Grey Knights and Tau so id like to post some lists for you to comment on.

Thanks in advance!
(Btw sorry but i realy, realy dont like how Imperial Knights look and would prefer playing without them, and of what i've seen most Tournaments in my Region only allow Two Detatchments so i cant ally Inquisitors as a 3rd option)

Edit: Just remembered i read on frontlinegaming.com that GK cant ally detatch with themselvese (Astra Militarum UM or WS) so i picked the CAD instead of AD. I hope what i read was correct

Few Words: Centurion Star with Draigo attatched to Centurion Devastator Squad. Starting on Field are DraigoStar, Interceptors and the two Scout Squads with their Teleport Homers scouting and infiltrating (Telion attatched to one of the Squads) providing the 6' no Scatter if needed for my Drop Pod wich includes the Purifier Squad with the Librarian and my Terminator Squad. After Round 1 Draigo can use the Teleport Homers or the Locator Beacon to Jump safely around with Gate of Infinity.
NDK might start on the field depending on the opposing Army or Drop in too.

HUGE PROBLEM OF THIS AND THE OTHER LIST (sry for Caps): EWO of Tau or any Intercepter Fire =(

Few Words: Same as with previous List but a fast Objec Sec Bike Squad to get some Objectives instead of the Scout Squad and the Draigo Centstar gets the White Scar Librarian with Hunters Eye attatched aswell.

And if you haven't Ragequit the Post for Formating or Rule Problem reasons:
Tau, i know those two Races couldnt be more different but i realy love Tau it was the first Race i wanted to choose, but reading alot about Tau on the Internet it seems like if you play Tau you are "That Guy". I Love those big Suits and the ranged attack of the Hunter Cadre. I think if i choose Tau my two friends would Ragequit on me since one is playing AdMech and the other either Orks or Dark Angels i think.

Tau just one List:
Spoiler:

Tau Hunter Contingent (1190 pts)

Core:

Hunter Cadre:
Hq:
Commander (182 pts) with 2 Marker Drones, Drone Controller, Shield Generator, Stimulant Injector, XV08-02 Iridium Battlesuit
This Commander will join my Fast Attack Slot with 4 Marker Drones and tanking the Fire for them. Not sure if i want him to be so tanky or give him some weapons instead.

Fast Attack:
4 Marker Drones (56 pts)

Elite:
XV8 Crisis Battlesuit (32 pts) with Flamer and Vectored Retro-Thrusters
Migth drop in Turn 2 on an Objective or a Squad of small Minions. Sadly i dont have the Pts to put another Riptide or the likes in this Slot

Heavy Support:
KV128 Stormsurge (435 pts)
Pulse Driver Cannon, TL Burst Cannon, EWO and Shield Generator

Troops:
Strike Team (5 man)
Strike Team (5 man)
Strike Team (5 man)

Auxillery (350 pts):
Optimised Stealth Cadre:

XV25 Stealth Battlesuits (105 pts)
2 x Stealth Shas'ui with Burst Cannon
Stealth Shas'vre Fusion Blaster

XV25 Stealth Battlesuits (105 pts)
2 x Stealth Shas'ui with Burst Cannon
Stealth Shas'vre Fusion Blaster

XV95 Ghostkeel Shas'vre (140pts)
Fusion Collider, 2x MV5 Stealth Drone, Twin-linked Fusion Blaster

Formation Detatchment (660 pts):

Riptide Wing:
3xRiptide Shas'vre (660pts)
Early Warning Override, Heavy Burst Cannon, Riptide Shield Generator, Stimulant Injector

Few Words: Lots of Dakka Dakka. Lots of EWO for Intercepting Fire on Riptides and Stormsurge, No objective Secured wich can get hard but lots of Firepower to clear the Objective hopefully. I personally like the Heavy Retribution Cadre put its banned in most Tournaments for good reasons (or the Lord of War Slot or the Stormsurge limited to 1)

I have to admit im not to sure about that list becouse of the missing ObjecSec and the few Markerlights, 6x BS5 Markerlight can be nice but just on 1 Unit wich can be killed with the Hunter Contingent speacial Rule hopefully but still only 1 Unit
=(. Love the Stormsurge and the Riptide Wing.

Thanks if someone got to the end of the 3 lists and im open for all constructive criticism. I put the 3 Lists in Spoilers becouse i think you could get Eye-Cancer if you get hit by this many lists.

I have always thought of Libby's being overkill when you run Draigo. Is the points elsewhere. I like to bounce purifiers around and burn troops nicely

You can pick Draigo as the Warlord but not as HQ so you need something else and Librarian seems to be the most common pick. Especially with the possibility of rolling 3-5 sanctic powers buffing the purifiers or even getting another Gate of Infinity or Cleansing Flame.

I have to admit i like the second list becouse of the Psyker addition in the Deathstar, trying to get Invisibility or getting Psychik shriek sounds realy nice =)

Isn't inquisitor Rex still a cheap HQ option for GK?

The second list is the most fun to play and will make you a better player. The third list is the best competitively. IMHO

In Battlescribe and Codex he isnt mentioned. only as an Inquisitoral Detatchment maybe.

Thanks Kholzerino =) Are both lists playable as they are?

If I were you, I would pick the faction that you enjoy the most. It seems from your post that Tau is the faction that you enjoy the look, play style, and fluff of...so I would do that one.

What I have seen from GW playing this game sence third edition, is that the top tir armies change every 6 months to a year. For the amount of time and money this hobby required, I have found that it is much better to go with what you like for your first army then consistently restarting in a effort to chase the meta.

And as for being 'that guy', honestly that comes more down to attitude and persionality then army list. Focus on having fun, and allowing your opponent to have fun, and you should not have any troubles in that department no matter what faction you play.

GK codex no longer has inquisitors. It is purely GK now. Librarian is definitely the best HQ choice.

But Rex is FW equivalent and can still be included - or so I thought...

If not, then disregard my earlier post.

I have a question about my Tau List.
I Somehow feel like i need more than those 4/6(with Commander) Drones for Markerlights or is the configuration fine like this or is it viable to drop the Stim Injectors on the Riptides in the Riptide Wing becouse of the Networked Reactors for more Markerlights (Pathfinders/Drones)?

Btw i switched the two Stealth Battlesuit Shas'vre to Shas'ui with Fusion Blaster becouse i can save 20 Points like this. with that i can remove Stim Injec and Shield Gen on Commander and switch them with 2 Missilpods and Target Lock, or should i keep it like before for more endurance?

May i post 2 Tau lists in this Thread for you to rate/discuss or should i open a new one?

and can you tell me where Matts (of Miniwargaming) Elite choice for Hunter Cadre is in this Video? https://youtu.be/UxPbKjf5Evs?t=2m

He is joining together Pathfinders at htis Point for Example: https://youtu.be/UxPbKjf5Evs?t=51m27s
