With ships, not like the people.
And yes I have Dreadfleet.

Something preferably cheaper I think.

Thanks.

There's the old Pirates of the Spanish Main game from WizKids. Out of production, but still cheap to acquire on Ebay.

Avalon Hill made a boardgame about naval battles in 18th and 19th century that was really good. I think the game was called Wooden Ships and Iron Men. A little online digging may turn stuff up about the game. Its old, (1975?) but good.

There's a self contained boardgame version if you don't want to start collecting an out of print collectible game.

Isn't rum and bones a pirate game? From CMoN?

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Blood and Plunder recently funded on KS. Should release by the end of the year IIRC.

Try Sailpower, it handles ships from the Golden Age of Piracy through the Napoleon era.

It plays well at any scale even though they sell ship kits for 15mm scale. If you get the old Wizkids PotSM ships you can use them as well. IIRC some of the early play tests used those kits, then Brian started chopping up commercially available ship kits to make a wide array of ships before he sculpted his own line of kits.

Armies: Space Marines, IG, Tyranids, Eldar, Necrons, Orks, Dark Eldar.

Check out my friends over at Sea Dog Game Studios, they always have something cooking: http://www.sailpowergame.com. Or if age of sail isn't your thing check out the rapid fire sci-fi action of Techcommander http://www.techcommandergame.com

Are these more in depth or casual?
I have a need for both an in depth (which I am sure I have gotten lots of, thank you)!
But I also need some more casual games, its a hard sell to some of my friends.

Pirates of the Spanish Main can be as in depth or casual as you want to go. I highly recommend it. Also, despite the fact that it is OOP, it seems to be fairly easy to find unopened packs.

Cutlass, from Black Scorpion.

Freebooters Fate.

7 Seas.

Got one on the kickstarter stove called, 7th Sea 2nd edition which is pretty hot mess.... Looks really interesting, building off of the old one, and taking it to the table.

Second one from Kickstarter was called- Blood and Plunder, which I am waiting on the release for it.

I have quite an extensive range, plus ships both on pmaps, and made out of styro, balsawood, and paper.... Walk the plank, don't touch my booty!!!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Then, theres leog pirates. Someone had a rules system out there for that one.... It was pretty cool if I remember right.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

I agree too. I've got a bunch of ships and probably will get some more soon. There are some online places with some stock and as long as you don't try to collect every ship you will do good. Also Pirates is a cheap source of ships to use with other more complex manuals if you don't like simple rules and crave more complex manuals.

The rules were put on the internet by the author, about a decade or so ago, I don't know if he has kept them up, let me check....

Hmmm... the author no longer has the rules up - but Hasbro does. (Good on them!)

Hard to tell right now, it's currently in production to fulfill the KS orders. From the gameplay videos it looked cool.

Not quite pirate, but there is Sails of Glory. From what I have read, it plays similar to Wings of Glory/X-Wing. You can get the starter set for about $65 online (comes with 4 ships), and additional ships for about $13.

It never ends well
