I have a Friendly Format Tournament coming up. I figured I couldn't get any more "Friendly" than fielding a low-tier Chaos army.
Rules for the Tourney;
only 2 detachments (any combo of CAD and Allied)
No LoW
No Formations
Soft scores for army comp, theme, sportsmanship
Forgeworld is on a case-by-case basis (I have none, so this isn't an issue for me)
0-2 on all non-troop selections
0-2 on all bike/jet-bike squads

Those last two rules were intended to stop non-troop spam / scatter-bike spam. I'm not sure there won't be some beardy git who'll go with DE Raider spam or Eldar Serpent spam... but I digress

The tourney missions will have a primary, secondary and tertiary objectives, mostly Kill Points, Objective markers and table Quarters as objectives. Only 1 mission will be Primary Kill Points.

I own no Forgeworld, I don't even know the rules for any Forgeworld, not interested in Forgeworld suggestions.
My dinobots are not assembled and likely won't be in time for the tournament, please do not suggest any dinobots (drakes, fiends)

So, that in mind, here's my Friendly Chaos list, derived from models I own/have painted and the vanilla codex.

Deamon Prince, Khorne, Armor, Wings, Axe of Best Friends 255

ML 2 Sorceror (Warlord), Terminator armor, Tzeentch 125 - not sure what powers to roll on, tips?

5 Terminators Tzeentch, 3 meltas, h.flamer, c.fist, p.fist 226

5 Bikes, nurgle, 2 meltas, p.fist 185

8 Havocs, 2 ML and 2 Autocannons 164

2 obliterators, Nurgle 152

10 CSM 2x plasma, p.fist 195
10 CSM 2x Melta, p.fist 185

Puts me at 1487.
If they're a little lenient on points, I may add a Spell familiar, or try to find another plasma CSM and swap out the meltas for plasmas
My army is painted as Black Legion (though I don't own the supplement), so the mixing of gods is not too unfluffy.

I know I'm extremely light on anti-air, but hopefully tourney rules will keep aircraft to a minimum.
Generally speaking, plans include deepstriking sorceror with termies in backfield with assistance from DP beat-stick and bikes. "firebase" just goes after objectives as they can.

Thoughts?

How are they getting around? From my own experience footslogging marines into a Tau gunline, they need some boxes to make sure they get from point A to point B

There should be terrain on each table and 5 turns gives me at least 30" of movement. Enough to get into any table quarter/get to objectives on my side of the board. Forward advancement is the job of bikes, prince and terminators.

On top of that, not really sure what 70pts I want to sacrifice to give 2 troops some extra movement in a weak box that could also kill my own guys when it blows up (not if, when).

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Thinking about it over my lunch, the best I could do to get some transports in this list is swap the obliterators for a 5 man plasma gunner squad and 2 bare rhinos.

Good idea or no? Really debating the utility of the obliterators...

Don't get rid of the oblits - they are a solid rock to anchor your army on. Deep strike or footslog they will at least make their points back in the sheer amount of shooting your opponent will do to kill them.

If you absolutely need some rhinos - and I am not saying you do - drop both marine squads down, take only one special and buy it that way. Hell - if you juggle it right you may end up with three barebones squads + 3 plasma guns and 2 rhinos. Three squads of 5 guys with a plasmagun and 2 rhinos is 340 points.

I like three troop choices but your army looks solid as is.

I decided to stick with my original list for this weekend's tourney. I added 13 points of VotLW to the Sorceror and Havocs to bring it up to an even 1500 pts. I figure the hatred and leadership boost couldn't hurt.
I don't often use Psykers, and it's been a long time since I've used a Force Weapon. The back of the Chaos SM Dex is the only mention I've seen of differing Force weapons (Axe, Stave, Weapon). Maybe they're in the BRB, I dunno, can't be bothered to look it up... Does anyone actually use these different force weapons or just use a generic "force weapon" stat?

Force weapons are just power weapons with the "Force" special rule. They are in the BRB, and there's no generic "Force Weapon" anymore. Pick one, they all have their uses.

CSM need metal boxes (rhinos) for sure. Stick a dirge caster and a dozer blade on for reliability and handiness.
