So I am having a hard time getting my list to 1850. I usually play Eldar, but I am looking for a more challenging list, so I want to try a mostly (preferably all) Dark Eldar list

This is what I know I want to play so far:

Dark Artisan formation
115 - Haemi w/ WWP & Scissorhand
120 - Cronos w/ Spirit Probe & Syphon
130 - Talos w/ Chain flails & TL Heatlance

Dark Eldar CAD
80 - Lhamean in Raider w/ Night Shields
220 - 4x 5 Warriors w/ Blaster
260 - in 4 dual cannon Venoms

120 - 5 Scourges w/ 4 Haywire Blasters
120 - 5 Scourges w/ 4 Haywire Blasters
126 - 6 Reavers w/ 2 Caltrops

100 - Void shield generator w/ 3 shields
----------------------------------------------------------total: 1391

I'd like to get an Autarch in the list to join the Reavers and give reserve bonuses to the Dark Artisan & Scourges, but I want to avoid using Scatter bikes. That leaves Dire Avengers as my only troop choice, but that then requires a Wave Serpent or Falcon, which I am on the fence about using. Or I could use 3 vanilla Windriders in reserve to fill that Troop slot.

I am using a Raider for the Lhamaean as a "place holder" because I am thinking about getting a big unit of Ssylth to add to her, plus some splinter racks. But that is a maybe. Or I could do Sslyth + a Succubus.

Another thing I could add is a Cast of Players (including the Spectre for Shroud), but I am not sure how they synergize with the rest of my list.

Possibly an allied det with:

Autarch Skyrunner, laser lance, fusion gun
3x Windriders, shuriken cannon (less infuriating due to shorter range and deadlier against infantry and MCs if you can get in range, which you probably can).

If you want to take Dire Avengers, you could possibly take a Venom or Raider in an FA slot and have them hop into that turn one. Or Guardians, in a Raider, but then they don't have a heavy weapon platform.

Still more, you could potentially take Shining Spears here too, and have them supplement the Reavers as a fast-moving harassment unit that's a little tougher if they get stuck in beyond the first turn. (Well, provided 3+ armor avails you anything...)

If you're wanting to take Sslyth, which in my experience works pretty well, you probably want to commit to shooting or chopping. They chop OK, but the Succubus is kind of wasted if you're just flying around pouring on the splinter dakka (which they do well.)

I might also consider trading one of the Warrior squads for Blasterborn - less for anti-tank than for anti-TEQ and other targets with good armor saves.

You could use the doom of mymerablaheha book and instead use a pale court, this will allow you an autarch and then 3 units of any aspect.

Of course, you could also just stay mono dark eldar...

Armies I play:
-5000 pts
-2500 pts
Mechanicus -1850 pts

Running the points again, I can fit the Autarch Skyrunner & 3 vanilla Wnidriders & a Cast of Players to ride in the Raider (or just use it as mobile cover)

I am wondering what the VSG is doing for your list. What is hiding behind it?

I would assume to stop some Alpha strike against him.

Yeah, that's the idea. DE vehicles are made of something slightly sturdier than soggy cardboard, so the void shield is there to blunt an alpha strike enough that maybe something lives and isn't forced to jink.

From my (limited) experience, reavers are really great but perform best in MSU. Are you limited to 2 formations? if not then I'd consider dual CAD

CAD 1
HQ
Succubus with glaive
2x5 warriors w/ Blaster
2x5 scourges
1x3 reavers w/ Caltrops

CAD 2
4 Sslyth in venom
2x 5 warriors w/ Blaster
3x3 reavers w/ Caltrops

This gives you a reasonable HQ (who rides with the Sslyth in the venom) that doesn't feel as cheap as a single lhamean and which can happily butcher firewarriors and marine squads. And turns the 6 man reavers squad into 4 squads of 3. To my mind a squad of 6 is just asking to take a bale flamer to the face or be vaporised by 2 marker lights hits.

I could do that list actually, but I would have to use my Eldar Windriders as most of the Reavers. You see, all my ELdar & Dark Eldar are painted in the same scheme as I have been playing them together since before Allies (I would run a Dark Eldar list as "Corsairs"). Then Allies became a thing and it was very easily to run "Corsiars" using both armies. Ironically, I don't own the Corsair army list from Doom of Mymerae.

So I own 4 models that are made from the OOP Reavers, and I usually add 2 OOP Eldar jetbikes converted with spears (usually as Warlocks) to be the Caltrop models
The list you suggest would have my 4 regular Reaver promoted to be Caltrops and then use 8 regular Windriders to be the vanilla Reavers.
Conveniently, all my jetbikes (Eldar and Dark Eldar alike) have Scourge heads, so using that all as Reavers will not be a stretch.
These are my Reavers: https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-3e7ZqNeLaD8/V3WjYynV7rI/AAAAAAAABUg/tCKSay7_qoMu-M1rXZHWm_Ut4A4pSeEgQCLcB/s1600/Reaver%2BWarlock.jpg
These are my Windriders (plus Autarch): https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pUzKHwTec3g/VyYA860fjdI/AAAAAAAABR0/t3retw6Fb4sCvyIUzUqT8izhx107sOOWwCLcB/s1600/IMG_1740.JPG

I'll have to run the points, but I'll post an updated list soon
Would it be a good idea to have Blasters on the Reavers? I know they typically want to Jink, but with 4 min units, I might be able to hide them easier than the 6-man unit I've used.

I'd generally choose heat lances instead of blasters: you want to be close anyway, so being in melta range probably isn't an issue, and AP1 maximizes the odds of scoring a telling blow. Blasters are more interesting if T4/multiwound guys are common in your meta, though.

Kinda stinks that Blasters are cheapest on Reavers, yet no one wants to use them on Reavers.
I'd make an argument that if you are running MSU Reavers and aren't using them to charge, the Blaster is better since if keeps them farther away, but I agree that the Heat Lance specializes them to what my list needs.

EDIT: New List:

Dark Artisan formation
115 - Haemi w/ WWP & Scissorhand
125 - Cronos w/ Spirit Probe & Syphon
130 - Talos w/ Chain flails & TL Heatlance

Dark Eldar CAD x2
110 - Succubus w/ Armour of Misery & Glaive
220 - Lhamean & 5 Sslyth
---------------in Raider w/ Night Shields & Splinter Racks
220 - 4x 5 Warriors w/ Blaster
260 - in 4 dual cannon Venoms

120 - 5 Scourges w/ 4 Haywire Blasters
120 - 5 Scourges w/ 4 Haywire Blasters
292 - 4x 3 Reavers w/ Caltrops and Heatlances

120 - Void shield generator w/ 3 shields & 2 Barricades (for units to hide behind turn 1, or to place objectives behind)
----------------------------------------------------------total: 1832

Can anyone think of a good 15pt upgrade for either the Haemi or the Succubus?

Haywire grenades for 5 pts and another lhamean for 10 as an extra ablaitive wound and a couple more hits in close combat.

I can dig that. It's a shame that Haemies can't take HW-nades since he has a much higher chance of being in CC with a vehicle (plus I could throw it on the drop to add to the Talos heat lance).
