I have a question I've been thinking about, has the meta settled down in anyone else's areas/local groups? I know that in the initial post-edition tumult my local area saw a whole bunch of nifty ideas getting thrown around, you wouldn't necessarily know who you'd run into at a local tournament unless you knew the bloke had a love for a certain caster that would overpower any edition change, stuff like that. Recently though, people seem to have settled into their usual/new factions a bit more, and are starting to work on specific lists and tweak them, rather than still throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks.

Are others seeing this transition? Or did you see that transition ages ago? Or are you still enjoying the randomness of picking what you want to work on this time around?

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Wherex I'm at, I'm seeing things in flux still, but I haven't been able to play a tournament since mk3 started either.

Oddly, I'm the inverse of my meta; I picked up Legion about a week before mk3 was announced, and bought almost all the models I wanted for the two warlocks I wanted. Aside from the new battlebox and a couple of changes, I've locked in my Legion lists until Warmachine Weekend, then I'll jump back to Cryx and go all crazy-special snowflake-experimental.

The meta has changed with the introduction of mk3. Have a look at the armies played by the three US teams at the WTC event. Cygnar, Khador, and Trollblood seem to be very strong these days, while Cryx has lost an edge:

Circle 5
Cygnar 2
Cyriss
Cryx
Legion 2
Mercs 1
Menoth 1
Retribution 1
Skorne 1
Trollblood 4

Many of our armies have been in flux since day one. One guy decided on his two lists on day one, declared they were OP, and promptly got his ass handed to him at the Masters last week because he didn't realise that two double gargantuan lists would suck at scenario games.....

I think we are finally settling into a routine, but the theme forces might change that completely.

Poor guy, double gargantuans seems like it'd be fun but yeah, run into Incursion or something against a control caster and just weep.

Theme forces will be a fun new addition, just as the meta starts to settle down it'll get thrown for a bit of a loop again (I hope). It's fun when it gets tossed around a bit

Well it's his own fault for being a cocky git.

But I hope they do theme forces good this edition. I don't want to have the same situation that we has in mkII that the ONLY way to play certain casters was to bring them in theme.

Theme forces are pure speculation. I wouldnt have faith in them.

Well we've already seen Kingmaker..... And some parts of that can be abused to no end. Namely head butting your own warcaster so he can't be shot to death.

Wasn't that doable with Magnus last ed? Or am I remembering wrong.

And yeah, I know it's speculation what the theme forces will do, but I really want to have faith haha. Some of the theme lists last ed really told a story (but some didn't yeah), and if they manage that again but without the EE/RoW sort of thing happening, I'd be over the moon.

It was doable with Magnus, and still is, but Kingmaker now lets you do it with other casters, it gives them Feign Death.

Shadowrun is the best game ever. It's the only thing I have ever played in which I have jumped out of a shot out van with a chainsaw to cut a flying drone in half before leveling a building with ANFO assisted by a troll, a dwarf, an elf, and a wizard.

I keep forgetting the theme has multiple casters available to it. I don't know why, my brain just cannot keep that information in it. Oops

In my area Hordes seem to have become something of a rarity.

Most popular faction is Cygnar.

Indeed, the shooty Cygnar is now a very popular choice. This hasn't been reflected in the recent WTC but I guess this will change next time.

Personally, I'm moving from Cryx to Circle. While Cryx lost an edge, Circle is still very strong with Wurmwood and several other 'locks.

Yeah the tree seems awesome. I'm going to play some Baldur2 this weekend (proxying everything/almost everything because I'm a bad bad bad person) because ARM skew like that seems fun as well.

The meta is starting to stabilize a bit right now, but will change again towards the end of the year when the Theme forces books are released.

I'm getting very frustrated right now that it feels like there is model errata every day. The Rules Forum on the PP Website is growing bigger, and bigger every day with more new "rulings" and errata and it's starting to become difficult to keep up. I would say right now that MK III has just as much FAQ/Errata then MK II ever did, and it's only been out for four months...

Sorry to have killed off the conversation here guys! I didn't mean to.

There will be another big meta shift coming in Nov/Dec with the release of the new Command Books and a pretty massive errata drop. Prepare for a massive shift! I'm thinking an 8.0 on the Richeter Scale based on how heavy a lot of the errata has been over the last few months.

I hope the new books will not be used to "Balance Out" the factions, if you know what I mean.

I'm pretty sure that only 1 command book is coming out in November (trolls). PP is spreading them out. Also the errata drop won't be until January.

I'm very interested in this errata, it'll be well timed for me to move away from any games of wmh haha. Dang. Maybe I'll paint more though...

I'm looking forward to it too. I almost sold my skorne, but dojo'd some Mak3 and Zaal1 lists with my buddies that I really want to play. The news that they'll get some love is great.

On the Cryx front, I was a little sad that I felt like I was locked into Witch Coven as one of my list pairs (even though they are fun to play), so some anti-shooting tech will be nice for variety.

It's a shame the errata isn't sooner, I was gonna play Cryx or Skorne again starting after Warmachine Weekend, and now I don't know which one will be better to give a shot to.

Well I'm assuming they are taking their time to fix it because they don't want to end up with the same situation with other factions.

I really don't get the cryx need for anti gunline tech. When the gun witches drop you have cloud walls that you can come pretty close to just placing. Not that much straight up ignores clouds nowadays. There's also the raiders being immune to blast with a prayer, the witch coven as you said, seems like there's still a decent amount of choice to me?

There's a couple of issues Cryx has.

Making cloud walls from other models takes your own models first. So to try and deliver your stuff you have to spend even more points on cheap bodies which ideally are fast (which is pretty much just carrion thralls now).

On top of that, the best gunlines usually have some form of eyeless sight or true sight, both of which ignore clouds.

Theres some competing design elements too, most gunline armies have some form of accuracy boost, or inherent high RAT (or both, for cygnar). Cryx, by design, has high def and low arm. Even force walled Raiders can have the Sea Witch picked out with relatively little effort, meaning that the unit is now very vulnerable to guns and blasts again. It even extends to the heavies, which almost all have lower arm/boxes then most factions. This means that any boostable shooting that can reliably hit def 13 will render most cryx jacks impotent.

Cryx is pretty much all melee too, with no direct ranged buffs in faction, and a top out of RAT 6. This means that a gunline can jam and then pick out what they want with little fear of return fire.

I played a lot of Witch Coven in mk2, and even with their pretty impressive control range, many times cygnar/legion long range guns can just move outside of feat range and kill off the witches. It's a little better now, since legion lost snipe on a stick, and we actually have an in faction shield guard (before we could only take a single bokur). But inflictors are still 13 points, and if they are babysitting the caster, theyre not fighting.

As said, Cryx has some issues in Mk3.
Therefore, I decided to start a Circle army. Wurmwood is coming.
Thus Circle is my newest project. I have always only one project at a time.
