Hello all,

Quick question about crew. as per faq crew are considered a separate unit. So lets say you have 3 dwarf cannons and you kill the crew of 1 cannon can a crew member from a different war machine (lets say another cannon) mann that cannon and count as its "new" crew?

Would it be beneficial to take one model off of one artillery pieces to fire a second? Wouldn't both pieces not fire as well since they don't have as much crew supporting them?

if you have 2 cannons 1 that has no crew and the other that has 3 then 1 of the crew members moving to the other cannon can make it still shoot while the cannon with 2 crew shoot at the same efficiency.

Also the crew rules state that if a crew member is 1" of the artillery it can shoot. So lets say 1 cannon has no crew but the other has 3 crew members and those crew member are within 1" of both cannons can both cannons still be used? it seems unless I am missing something that the crew can operate as many warmachine as they are within 1" to unless I am missing a rule some where?

We have always treated a crew as 'belonging' to a certain artillery piece at my flgs, because the warscrolls refer to a war machine and "its" crew, as opposed to things like engineers where is says "an engineer". But the war machine + crew rules are wonkey and poorly done imo. If going with the interpretation that crew do not belong to a certain piece, then putting the artillery next to each other and both crews within 1" of both machines would mean that each could fire at full effectiveness as long as there were a total of 3 crew alive from both units.

Funny enough if they didn't faq the the crew to be separate unit I probably would not of been asking this question. I for the time being play as the crew only works for the war machine it comes with but I agree the crew rules are a little wonky.

Yeah the faq really didn't help at all since it raised as many new issues as what it cleared up.

Didn't the FAQ specifically say a crew cannot fire another Warmachine other than its own? I'll have to give it another read through.

Edit: well, turns out it doesn't but if you look at say the 'Empire Cannon', you'll see it's the crew that fire the cannon (I.e. The ability is in on the crew's warscroll, not the cannon's) and talks about the crew firing the cannon (I.e. Theirs) rather than any given cannon.

I'm not sure what would happen if 3 crew from 1 cannon are next to another cannon.. but you can't just move crew around.. it's a unit that needs to stay together (1" right?)
