Im making a fallen army but if has been really difficult since im using the chaos codex there a bunch of dark angel bits that I cant use like shields, and since I dont like the way hellbrutes look and chaos no longer have dreagbouts im wandering, would it be a better idea for me to use codex dark angels instead of chaos?

Use the 5th edition Space Marine codex. Use what ever you think justifies them the best. Use Chaos if you think your Fallen should have Chaos powers. Use Space Marines if you fell you like those rules better. Or use Dark Angels codex if you think they are Dark Angels and that is what they think they are and believe their view.

As for me saying use 5th edition Space Marine codex was when I played a Tourney, someone said they are playing Dark Angels. Then I see them using a Space Marine codex. I asked why are you not using the Dark Angel 4th edition codex. His reply was he wanted to win. So I called him Fallen his face sank and I think he took offence.

I always rib a Dark Angel player using a different codex than Dark Angels. It's all in fun of course.

Maybe use the 30k legion rules?

The Cypher formation isn't too bad. Infiltrate is always good.

Thats what I was considering using as Allies for my Renegade Guard when I get them started.

Fallen literally have rules which use Chaos Marines as the basis (from the Cypher dataslate).

Helbrutes are Dreadnoughts in all but name. And if you're desperate for your Dreadnought's rules to have 'Dreadnought' in the unit entry, Imperial Armour 13 has the Ferrum Infernus Chaos Dreadnought (and the Chaos Contemptor Dreadnought).
(Also the (only?) depiction of a Fallen Dreadnought is pretty Helbrutey - http://www.blacklibrary.com/all-products/unforgiven-ebook.html)

You could always use the shields as counts-as Mark of Nurgle or something if you feel that they must have rules representation.

That would be my suggestion, too. But they probably wouldn't have as many of the cool toys due to damage from that whole civil war and Caliban exploding thing.

It will be interesting to see if Forgeworld eventually does do 30K rules specifically for them.

The Fallen Champions Dataslate is pretty good - 3 squads of Chosen plus Cypher.

There are 'chaos dreadnoughts' - the Ferrum infernum dreads and the chaos contemptors. Both are 'proper dreadnoughts'.

You can use the DA models and the chaos dex. When some one asks why does he have a shield just say he has the mark of tzeentch. As stated above helbrutes are just chaos dreads, use the imperial dread model and add a few spikes here and there, remove some of the scroll work and the such. Just have the weapons load be correct.

You could use the standard SM dex if you wanted, just maybe limit what you take. i.e. chaos doesn't have whirlwinds so dont take them, you can take shields if you want to then since storm shields have been around for ever.

I would personally stay away from the DA dex just for the fluff reason that Fallen have probably modified there tactics and dont operate like DA do, but its your army so if you want to use it go for it.

Halandri

Whatever fits your vision of your fallen best.

I'd like to use the Eye of Terror Lost and the Damned, with the Fallen as Aspiring Champion leading mobs of mutants and other filth in an uprising against the imperium (or in an act of self sacrifice against the chaos gods, depending on how corrupted this marine is).

Personally I wouldn't make an army of Fallen, as that goes against my idea of them being scattered throughout time and space. My idea of a Fallen army would be at most a small group of Fallen leading/hiding amongst other renegades/heretics.
