Debating starting a second army, possibly Tyranid. Looks like there are some good deals now on collections I am just not too familiar with them (mostly our shop has people playing Tau and Space Marine chapters... I play Necron)

Swarm Box:

10 Gargoyles; 40 Hormagaunts; 40 Termagants; 1 Carnifex; and 4 Ripper Swarms

Start collecting:

Hive Tyrant, 3 Tyranid Warriors, 10 Gargoyles

Does it make sense to buy both? Can I build a decent starter army with these two? Looks like I will land around 1000 points +/- based on accessories with these two, and since my current army is slow moving impossible to kill units I like the idea of a swarm of fodder.

Thanks.

I would say yes the 2 together would make a good starter army. Then again, if cost is an issue, the swarm box might be better it has a larger force and all you would need is a synapse creature of some sort or to run the carnifex as old one eye. I started my nids that way I'd gotten the swarm box a hive tyrant and a box of warriors ( the start collecting wasnt an option then) and for small non competitive games it works great, lot of fun.

Getting one of each would be a great start to a nid army. Together they will give you all the troops you will need, your HQ, and some synapse. After that, what you have is flexible enough to expand in many different ways. You could get some big MCs like tyrgons and mawlocks, you could get some more FMCs with harpies and hive crones, you could get more elites with venomthropes and zoanthropes. Whatever fits your play style.

Yes it's a good start. Is it a good competitive start? That is a different story.

Just feel sorry for you painting all those gaunts. I still haven't painted up all mine or put them all together. They are a chore.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?
