Hi folks,
Picked up a Doom Diver (maybe another 1 or even 2 depending on how lucky my bidding goes) on eBay. Reading through the scroll for it, looks like the crew have to be within 1" of it to work. I was planning on having the crew on one big base with the machine but should I not do that? Pics on the scroll just show the machine on its own with the crew on bases.
Still very new to this AoS stuff, sorry.
Thanks!

The crew are technically a different unit. You need to be able to remove them as they die.

Yes, it makes me sad, because I agree that they look much better all on one base, but the crew and machine could potentially have very different experiences in a battle. For example the war machine could be targeted and killed while the crew remain and try to go avenge themselves. Or you could set it up in such a place that even if the opponent kills the crew the actual machine still counts as a "friendly unit within X of the objective"

I would not base a warmachine for AoS.

you are allowed to place based crew on the base of the warmachine I think.

Strictly speaking, the core rules ignore bases. You can put any model on any other model's base. MOST people seem to house rule that bases can't overlap. I'd happily ignore that and allow crew to stand on a warmachine's base. It makes sense and looks nice.

I still wish the doomdiver model was an actual unit you put on the field, like a missile in BFG
Edit:
Regarding bases, I think it would depend on your local gaming group's preference. Although the most conventional way to do it is to have the crew and the machine on separate bases. I would probably just stick the warmachine on a bigger base (50-60 mm round) just so it can accomodate the crew within its base.
