Hello Ladies and Gents,

Hopefully someone can help me out here. I am looking in collecting a small Khador army. I love the model Ruin and am buying and painting just for the sake of owning it because I love the look of it that much. Well since I am getting one warjack, I might as well get some more. I have been trying to do research, but I can't figure out what I need to start.

Obviously the first step would be the new core rulebook. This is Prime I believe, but it is a tad expensive. Does anyone know if there is a softcover version coming out soonish?

Next and here is where I get confused, what do I need to play the Khador faction. I see there are Mk. III cards designed to bring the model rules into the new edition, is that enough or do I also need the Khador book?

Lastly, what do you recommend as a basic army?

I was thinking along the lines of

Warcaster (Undecided but Butcher seems an obvious choice based on what I read, but I also like the look of Kommander Strakhov)

Ruin
Another Warjack

I love the look of the Iron Fang Kovnik so him and a unit of Iron Fangs.

Lastly, I see that Winterguard seem to be a rather staple so I was going to do 2 units of them with a a mortar attachment.

I was thinking about 50 points is where I would like to end up.

Is that too much/too little/ just plain bad? I don't mind sub-optimal, but I would rather not get wiped off the table immediately.

Yes, Prime is the new book, but the rules are available for free from Privateer Press's website.

When you buy models, they'll have the cards you need to play inside the box. Right now there isn't a 'book' for khador for Mk3, but you have a couple of options. One of the easiest (if you're inclined to it) are to download the app War Room 2 (google or apple). The app is free, but you can buy the entire faction's cards digitally for pretty cheap. They also will continue to update the cards as need be until whenever the next edition comes out. War Room also links to the rule book, so when you search for any rules or terms, it'll pull up the rulebook PDF to the relevant page.

You can also try to find the Mk3 faction decks, which are designed to give all mk3 cards to someone who already has a collection. But they'll let you look at everything and have physical cards if that's what you prefer.

I'll leave recommends on army building to others, but Butcher 1 or 3 are somewhat straightforward (they hit things. Hard.) Iron fangs and the winterguard are solid, but if you get winterguard, you'll want Kovnik Joe and maybe some rocketeers (the weapon attachment). They have great synergies and form a decent backbone unit.

50 points is a good place to aim for, it's a little below what is considered 'normal' for mk3 (75 points), but its a good starting place after playing some smaller, battlegroup only games.

You could also consider the Khador Starter Box

http://privateerpress.com/warmachine/gallery/starter-products/khador-battlegroup-starter-box

Apart from a table and an opponent it's everything you need to get started in one box. The caster is solid, you get a mini rulebook (full rules just minus the fluff), tokens plus stat cards for the included models.

One tip would be to consider magnetising the two 'jacks. Later on if you pick up one of the plastic three in one Heavy Warjack kits you will be able magnetise that and run different loadouts.

Welcome to the game!

So the starters come with all the pieces for the multi-jack kits? I was curious about this because I'm starting Cryx and I'm not sure I want one of the jacks from the starter but it's just such a good deal. If I have the pieces to magnetize/make it a different jack I'm happy!

Also @ OP: I'm also just starting, and so far I have the pdf download of the rules and I also got the War Room 2 app. Bought the Cryx cards in the app (but there are also freely available ones - a few - that you can use just to get a grasp of what stuff looks like), and going back and forth between those helped me understand a lot, I think. Honestly after reading through the rules and learning how to read the cards over just the past couple days, I feel ready for my first game!

The MKIII ones do not, you only get the pieces for the jacks in the battlebox.

But I will say, with all the stuff you get in the battlebox. They are totally worth it. It is cheaper than just buying the rulebook.
