In the Warp, getting trolled by Tactical_Spam, AKA TZEENTCH INCARNATE

I've been gathering some stuff for a Slaaneshi Path to Glory warband, was wondering how well they'd do in Matched Play.

Here's the list:

HQ:
Lord of Slaanesh on Daemonic mount
Lord of Chaos
Chaos Sorcerer Lord

5x Hellstriders of Slaanesh
5x Chaos Knights
1x Gorebeast chariot

Battleline:
10x Gors
10x Daemonettes

I'm thinking of buying another box of Hellstriders and a box of Beastmen or Daemonettes, and I'm eyeing the Daemon Prince kit as well...

Thoughts?

Would running these guys in the Pleasurebound Warband or the Godsworn Champions of Ruin formation make much difference?

The former would look like this:

Lord of Slaanesh on Daemonic mount (Mortal Slaanesh Hero)

Required 6 Mortal Slaanesh units:

1x Lord of Chaos
1x Sorcerer Lord
5x Hellstriders of Slaanesh
5x Chaos Knights
1x Gorebeast Chariot
10x Gors (counts-as Chaos Warriors)

My main concern is that the +2 Bravery would only affect the Warriors, as they're the only unit with 6+ models; perhaps I should buy a sixth Hellstriders off a bits site to fix that? I'm also not sure how useful this formation is, so if anyone has any experience with that, I'd love to hear it

The latter would look like this:

Lord of Chaos

10x Warriors of Chaos
5x Chaos Knights
1x Sorcerer Lord
1x Chaos Spawn

On top of this formation would be any of the other units that I can fit in and stay under a 1000 points.

Now, I'm a little fuzzy on how formations work points-wise and on the table-top, so any advice on that would also be greatly appreciated

im not a slaanesh expert but i would say you should trim some of those units out to make way for a monster.
most armies are going to have something and without it you're going to be at a huge disadvantage.

as a chaos player if i were looking for a cheap monster i would take a manticore sorceror or lord for about 300 points. or giants are only about 180 pts each. you need something a bit tougher that hits hard. take a slaanesh lord of chaos on a manticore and then let the slaanesh lord use his ability on it so it piles in and attacks twice. that's downright scary.

as for formations, you pay all of the points for the units required and then you also pay the points for the formation itself if you want to use the special rules.

some formations dont have points from the campaign books. if they dont have points they wont typically be legal for matched play events so its probably best not to plan a competitive/regular list around them and just use them for fun games.

and for that reason, ill never be able to run 5 giants in their formation in a tournament :(

Honestly my advice for Slaanesh right now is to run it like a normal Slaves to Darkness army with Slaanesh elements or just wait for when the inevitable battletome comes around at some point. They just don't have a lot to work with overall since so many of their units do the same thing. As a sidenote, the pleasurebound battalion isn't going to work well because to get that 6th model you have to pay for an additional 5 (a 6-man unit costs the same as a 10-man unit). Unless you run 24/30-man units or are able to use PPC for individual model costs it isn't going to work well. Though it could be worth taking for the deployment benefits and extra item, I suppose.

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

Yeah, it sucks that Slaanesh has so little options at the moment; I guess we can only hope that the Hosts will get some more support sometime in the near future

Adding a monster seems like the best way to give my army some extra punch, but I can't decide between the Slaughterbrute/Mutalith Vortex Beast and the Ghorghon/Cygor. The Vortex Beast looks like a lot of fun to use, but the Ghorghon would fit with my Gors who can count as Chaos Warriors...

Maybe I could use the Vortex Beast in combination with the Godswrath Champions of Ruin formation?

I think if you are running Hellstriders adding Fiends makes sense to me. Have the Hellstriders behind and that unit is now -2 to-hit.

It's a bit of a tank unit. Toss a mounted herald nearby if you wanted the Fiends to have the buff.

The other trick I feel is good with Slaanesh is a Keeper and use his/her ability on a Soulgrinder so they attack twice.

A couple things to think about maybe? I'm coming at this from the Daemon side.
