With Chaos always being billed as the big baddie in 40K I was wondering what people thought about having some Non human chaos armies?

Would a Chaos spin on other current races work (Knorne Kroot, Nurgle Orks and maybe even Slanneshi Nids)? If they did would giving the player the choice to be full allies with their parent race or chaos work (to expand their factions too?

Alternatively what other races from the lore do you think would be an interesting addition to the Chaos faction

In My Lab

'Nids can't really fall to Chaos.

Orks can... But it's incredibly rare.

Kroot, though... That might be interesting.

There's old lore that supports Chaos harming a bunch of other factions. I can recall the following:

#1 - Eldar; It does sometimes happen that, in studying their own past, an Eldar can succumb to Slannesh. It's very rare, as the entire remaining Eldar society is built around avoiding this, but it can happen.

#2 - Orks; Their bestial nature invites Khorne, but Orks can also become slaves of Nurgle. I have never heard of a Slanneshi or Tzeentchian Ork, as Orks lack much in the way of desire or twisting ambitions. EDIT: Note though that other Ork clans will see the one that's fallen to Chaos as being "sumfin wrong wit dem" and other Orks clans will usually quickly take them out.

#3 - Tau; Since the Tau almost don't register in the Warp, the Gods of Chaos pay little heed to them. However, a Daemon bound to a corporeal weapon or a Daemon Prince may see the Tau as easily manipulated. The Tau's nature to try and understand their foe invites Chaos to use the Tau to their own ends, though daemonic possession is pretty much unheard of.

#4 - Genestealer Cults; Can definitely fall to Chaos, though in these cases, it's usually the Cult trying to infiltrate the Chaos religions rather than the Cult of the Emperor.

#5 - Tyranids; As Tyranids lack any of the emotions that Chaos feeds off of, the Tyranids are immune to daemonic possesion, and Chaos Gods pay the Tyranids no attention. Any mutations that stray from the will of the Hive Mind are quickly destroyed, often at the cellular level, making Tyranids often immune to even the Plague Father's blessings.

#6 - There are references to Kroot falling to the Chaos Gods, since unlike the Tau, they do have a warp presence, and a full society to corrupt.

#7 - Necrons, obviously, have no possibility of being touched by the warp.

It's my understanding that kroot have psykers and if they eat chaos tainted meat bad things tend to ensue.

Also tau can fall to burgle corruption just as easily as any other race. They're not exactly immune to the common cold.

In Storm of Iron (Black Library) the iron warriors used the obliterator virus to take over a hive ship. So techno nods?

I was also thinking of faction being taken by chaos. In the old Daemon hunters codex they even suggest orks mistaking an idol of nurgle for a dung pile idol of Gork/Mork. Those Orks fell to chaos without realising it. There are also Orks fighting in the realm of Khorne, which the blood God keeps giving life to, what if he send them off on a blood crusade?

With either faction, they don't have to choose Chaos consciencely

The orks in question in the realm of Khorne belong to a one Tuska Daemon Killa.

There is also evidence to support the opposite.

After the GKs were released there was a white dwarf article that showcased different races being possessed/mutated by Chaos. One was a Tyranid abomination. Another was a mutated crisis suit.

The thing people seem to forget with Tyranids is that they don't so much 'fall' to chaos as they can be 'Horribly Mutated' by chaos. There's not much intelligence to corrupt over, but you can certainly shove enough warp energy into one to try and make a new pet out of it, however this certainly won't work during a straight up Tyranid Invasion because the power of the Shadow of the Warp disrupts things horrifically for Chaos if there's enough presence, but that doesn't mean it can't as one memorable Tyranid story had Tzeentch horrors twisting genepools into suddenly becoming very volatile and prone to exploding as Tyranid drop pods fell through clouds of acidic blood and fire.

Inboud...

Whilst evidence for the major races may be slim, the Eisenhorn books clearly show Xenos races can be fully corrupted by Chaos.

The Saruthi race are completely corrupted by a particularly nasty Tome of forbidden knowledge. It stands to reason that other more minor races are similarly damned.
