Been away from the hobby since moving to China over half a year ago and last couple of days have been checking up on it (Angels Blade - thank god for that!), but only just seen this very minute the FAQ reversal of being able to start BBs in allied transports.
I can only imagine the absolute sh*tstorm that caused at the time! From Skittari and Mechanicus being massively nerfed with no access to pods or rhinos, Seths taxi service being put out of business, players wanting dropping Storm Troopers not being able to use them, Eldar+DE shinnanigans being halted, no more deamons in IA13 vehicles...
How was this change taken when it occured? Must have seemed to come out of no-where right, since it was an accepted and widely used part of 7th?
The competetive war connvocation destroyed in 1 word - ouch, considering how much that cost some players!

On moon miranda.

It's a good thing ultimately, and I havent seen too much stink, most people realized it was an abusive gimmick.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

New Heavy Gear Log! Also...Grey Knights!
The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Definitely not the biggest FAQ change ever.

I'd say the biggest was probably the "Trial Assault Rules" of 3rd edition, which became the de facto "official" 3rd edition rules from then on... and which killed the rhino-rush in its tracks most prominently. Blood Angel's players (a codex built on that tactic at the time) were not happy then!

This new change seems right.

A scouting redeemer sounds interesting since scat bikes became an insane and rediculous thing when I left the hobby. Plus shoving the new upgraded DC in it doesnt sound too bad a plan. Supporting that formation with a load of cheap allied psy-assault cannon razorbacks with inquisition and protected by a couple of mandatory (with the formation) JP DC squuads looks like a very effective armoured force.

It was a long time coming, far too abusive an ability.

2000 pts
2500 pts

The glorious DC rhino rush of third with the turbo boosted engines for T1 charge was seriously broken mind.

None of the new BA formations are bad, they are just too expensive to use in games under 2000 points. Angel's Blade is a GREAT Apocalypse codex.

With tournaments now trending towards 1650 points however the Blood Angels are once again at the bottom.

What? Main tourneys have dropped by 200pts :-o?

It's just easier for them to manage and helps keep the games on time, and allegedly mitigates "broken lists" in theory... but unfortunately it's not a good change for Blood Angels. --> I'm talking about the 1650 tournaments ha.

Awww boo! 2k+ was always the sweet spot for BA. Damn it was hard enough trying to cram a BA list into 1850!
May try the Armoured formation out a bit but sounds like I'll still mainly be playing R&H with CSM allies if thats the regular points cost in gaming circles now. Or crons. Damn - got excited when I saw the articles on Angels Blade!

Getting rid of Flesh Tearers Taxi Service (and other BB transport shenanigans) is one of the best things to happen to the game recently, IMO. No more dropping Skitarii, no more podding in a Culexus Assassin (although I myself am guilty of using that one...once), no more Wraithguard Raiders, etc. They still need to do something about mixed units though, as SuperFriends and that silly Bark Bark Star are still very much a thing and really shouldn't be.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

So what's happened to Skittari now? Pods and Rhinos were the things that made them viable. Way too flimsy to be walking that board to get in range. Bunker slingshots? Bunker slingshots are still allowed right?

It is but it's not good since it's very telegraphed or they the opponent can just get on top of the escape hatch and you can't disembark out of it

It was received well by some, and absolutely hated by others. Armies that relied on using other armies transports like skitarii got the shaft, but really the 'big players' are not effected at all from it really, Space marines already get anything they want, eldar never needed Eldar vehicles for anything and tau/crons also generally didn't use them to begin with.

I remember the change (3rd was great on these things, once they re-made DE from scratches) but I miss the details... what changed back then?
Wasn't it a positive thing?

Generic characters disappearing? Elite units of your army losing options and customizations? No longer finding that motivation to convert?

I've read it again and again, that it would not be possible - but: Isn't it possible to put an Independent Character to the unit you want to use the Drop Pod? Let's say a Blood Angel Priest and Skitarii in a BA-Pod? Doesn't the FAQ tells us they are now both Skitarii and BA? What am I missing? :(

Fluff for the fluff-gods!

To be honest there have been more dramatic FAQ's in the past like the BS0 can's shoot, psy shooting attacks are shooting attacks so all psykers with Bs 0 are now dead in the water.

But lets focus on this faq.
- Multi lv ruins blast thing is bigger if you ask me.
This affects all games with ruins and guess what these are the most used terrain in this game.

- 1 grenade in close combat.
This FAQ just kills off entire unit entries, and screws over 30k.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Transport hopping only affects allied Imp and Eldar armies. They do invalidate some of those armies but so do other faqs like the grenade one.
