Hey all - putting together a nice themed guard list to occasionally ally with my brother's Tau. As such, I want it to look like a PDF force left behind during the Damocles campaign. Not actually using the Gue'vesa rules from FW, as I want this to stay a true counts as guard. Tau are reasonably tolerant of the Emperor worship (as long as it stays religious and not political), so I'm leaving it open to have priests. Commissars will be represented by converted Ethereals if needed, and I will consider adding a radical Order Xenos Inquisitor, and a converted ad mech explorator contingent later. These would represent the various arms of the Imperium trying to re-infiltrate the lost world, before exterminatus anyway! This is my fluff p0rn army, full grimdark.


The initial list has the CCS on the bastion, and 10 infantry in it, with the HWS next to the bastion behind the barricade. Two of the squads blob up and attach a priest. SWS is in Vendetta, that and Veterans push forward in support of blob and PCS.

Here are the models I will have available, and from these I'm looking to create a solid list that can operate next to Tau (sorta - 6" away close ), and alone. I will expand this later, but not until this much is painted.

Key is that I want to use fortifications, as its a PDF, not out on sorties. As such, likely artillery will be entrenched, not on the chimera platform.

Looks very good fluff wise, though I think you could include those power axes a tad more. Melee armies you might struggle with, especially if they have the means to soak up your fire by the time they reach your lines, and when they do your vets and guards aren't going to last long in combat. Though even against shooty armies you may struggle if they can pick off your units effectively especially since IG are quite squishy at times.

I think it's a solid list but has issues against armies that are specialised, however it'd do well against balanced/all-round armies. It's also pretty good fluff-wise.

Solid advice, and I think past 1k it will be easier to put more axes and such in. I was surprised how much harder it is to build a 1k all-rounder AM list than my other armies.
