As the title asks, I'm curious. If you wanted a army that was mostly infantry supported by some big stuff (Like monsterous creatures or vehicles or walkers) what one would you pick? There is the obious horde armies, Guard, Orks and Nids. But there is also the newish AdMech and Genestealer Cults. But then other armies might be able to do mostly infantry with support even better then those options!

Guardsmen with LRBT's of all kinds is the best way to go.

Blood Ravens, 1700pts

Empire 40 wounds

Astra Militarum 2250pts

Khorne 750pts

Space Wolves 1550pts

Orks 500pts

Tyranids favor tons of big bugs, and just minimum troops taxes.

I'm not sure about Orks.

I think guard is your best bet.

Well, you can always do Tau as well.

From what I'v seen, Necrons seem to handle mostly infantry with some support quite well. I'm not talking about massed infantry of hundreds of infantry models always, Just a army thats mostly infantry with some support from vehicles and big stuff.

The majority of Skitarii units in a War Convocation are Infantry. The Kataphrons too, except they don't look or feel like Infantry on account of them being Mutoid Men with T5 and 2 Wounds. The rest is vehicles.

If you want masses of low-grade infantry with some high-grade support then Genestealer Cults might be worth a look. Their main Codex is almost nothing but low-grade infantry that punches way above its weight, and you can ally in either Guard for tanks or Tyranids for Monsters.

Skitarii would work OK with vanguard and dunecrawlers/imperial knight/s, Daemons can do this well with soulgrinders and greater daemons, Marines of multiple chapters can do this fairly well with loads of options for both the infantry side and the vehicle/walker/MC side, footdar would make for a nice fluff list built around an avatar, Tau can easily and effortless do this with their suits and firewarriors/kroot.

The first thing that jumps out at me when I read the title though is Guard. Basically I'd pick whatever centrepiece models you think look coolest and then build an army around them. Or conversely, build an army around whatever ground forces you want since you're going to be paint way more of them. Either way you can build an effective list if you just follow the basics of listbuilding while sticking to your theme.

I'd probably pick Daemons though, just 'cause I like their model range.

This is the traditional way to build an army. Necrons are probably the best way to represent this at he moment. All their vehicles are big stuff and their infantry actually acts like infantry blocks.

This is honestly a description of almost all armies, barring those that tend to run mechanized infantry (so most Marines, and Eldar lists that use infantry at all).

Tau
I play a mech tau list with suits drones and path finders mixed in. Its a rather aggressive army and I'm currently tinkering with it to make it more well rounded

World Eaters seem to support the idea of mostly infantry rushing forward at high speeds with Deamon Princes running around.

Outside of being "good": basically every army can be built up as lots of infantry + support

Necrons would probably do it best.

Reason being that their basic infantry can literally handle any target. From Guardsmen to Imperial Knights, you can attack it with your Gauss Rifles. Units like Guard and... basically anything else... wind up wasting quite a few points on infantry that are ineffective against a large number of targets, unless you pay points to upgrade them with "guns" that may or may not be effective against your selected target.

I personally love the look of Necrons, and they're very easy to paint well. Truthfully, if I didn't already have a "shooty" Guard army, I'd have played them in a heartbeat.

War Convocation != Skitarii, nor anything to be braying about. It's a crutch formation that has been overblown by neckbeards to be "the cheesiest thing" in 40k.

Skitarii are part of it - most of the infantry units are Skitarii. Hence what I said.

Settle down, Beavis. OP wanted armies with lots of infantry and some heavier elements. WarCon fits the bill. Nobody is "braying".

Anyone who brings up the WarCon is in need of a swift slap.

Daemons. You can bring a ton of small infantry backed up by lots of casters, and try to summon more big monsters. Then soul grinders and TONS of chariot options.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Would you like some Vendettas allied with that WarCon?

Peregrine - If you like the army buy it, and don't worry about what one random person on the internet thinks.
