Ok boys and Girls this is up and running! $20K in the first 15 minutes,... goal is $50k

This is NOT an expansion for Myth, and it is NOT a miniatures battle game. This is a stand-alone tower defense style co-op board game similar in play style to that of Pandemic and Defenders of the Realm. It does have some unique mechanics to this genre. It is not a miniature intesive game. In fact, It only has a hand full of miniatures in the base box (alternate gender heroes from the Myth game (originally a SG from the first Myth KS Campaign) and the city miniature which is a multi-part miniature that is used to track damage done to the city during the game. Everything else in the base box is represented with cards or tokens - including the monsters (owners of Myth can sub in the miniatures that they already own).

Picture of the prototype which I played at Gencon:

Yep; the Archer is in,..... seems like a pretty powerful character in the DF game!

The Archer in Dark Frontier is a balanced hero. He has 2 in all his stats so is equally able to help in any situation. He has 3 Arrow tokens and 1 Fool's Errand token. Cycling these tokens is important, especially the powerful Fool's Errand token.

The Archer uses an arrow mechanic to Battle enemies at range. He can also use his Fool's Errand ability to draw enemies away from primary targets and precious structures. He is also one of the few heroes that can move two areas on his own. With help from a fellow player, he can move 3 areas in a turn. This is a gigantic bonus when dealing with far reaching objectives.

Less than $3000 to the next goal,.... then they should release some new goals.

There is also some nice new info on the Swordsworn hero and how it crosses back to the original Myth game:

The Swordsworn in Dark Frontier

The Pupil is not a balanced hero. He excels at Tactics and Spirit. His powers chain together more than most heroes. This allows him to create some truly breathtaking actions. However, he must direct his actions towards his strengths.

His Battle action is powerful but controlled by the scarcity of the Kata token. He only has one. He must find ways to cycle it quickly to maximize his strengths. For that he will need cooperation with the fate dice pool and other hero needs. His ability to quest is good...if he is using Tactics or Spirit. It is risky to attempt quests out of his strength. Repeated failure brings doom swiftly.

The Swordsworn in Myth

The Pupil in Myth is a melee-centered character. The Pupil is governed by sword Kata. Katas have two natures: the sword’s movement and the hero’s movement. The sword’s movement is conveyed with an angle from the Kata diagram. Each attack card has a line from a windrose-like diagram. Each line represents the sword’s attack plane.

Attacks may be played only if the sword is sheathed or the attack is in the opposite direction of the previous attack. Attacks that come from adjacent attack planes receive the Kata bonus. The Kata bonus stacks until the sword is sheathed or broken by an attack in the opposite direction on the same plane. Attacks that travel the same plane as the previous attack, but the opposite direction, do not receive Kata bonus. Sheathing his sword allows him to "reset" the Kata string.

The Pupil’s movement is explained with diagrams on the card. The movement must be performed to play the attack card. He has no attacks that allow him to remain stationary. These work like the Soldier's Riding the Edge card, but move in several different directions and shapes.

The Pupil can only use swords. An item’s art and name is used to determine if the weapon is a sword. If he uses a two-handed sword, he receives an extra 1d10 and 1FD to all Attacks.

His starting gear is below; plus the standard Adventure's Gear.

A new "1000 Backers" stretch goal was just added. This is an effort to push some of the SG content further up in the cycle (only about 60 backers short at this point). They said part two of this SG adjustment should come later today.

I like that the monster classes really change the variability of the game quite a bit and that you don't need minis for them (but great if you have them from Myth already).

Each monster group is different. First, the stats for all the monsters are different. Second, the conquest tracks and effects are different. Third, the action cards are way different. Each new monster requires a different focus from the players. Even the setup is different (on the back of the enemy sheet).

Yesterday the main pledge level with the stretch goals was updated to include the Tailess monster group. This was part two of the adjustments that they discussed. (I've updated the initial post as well). This boosts the value of the pledge again. With this and the 1000 backer goal that is about to fall; there are now three playable monster types to play against (and a 4th at the $115k SG which it looks likely to reach this week).

The entire enemy group and how they approach the game is different. They have different stats, conquest tracks, and action cards. Tailless focus on the Village and causing overruns with lots of Minions.

Yesterday the resource crystals upgrade was reached:

And late last night,... the 1000 backer goal was hit!

With three monster types now in the game (4th at the $115k goal); the variability is really changed up quite a bit. You only face one monster type per game; and they change the dynamics of the game considerably.

Apart from the stats on the monsters being different; they also have different special abilities,... these Skeleton type monster, for example, are twice strong in the 'Night" phase of the game; and they focus on different areas of the board than the orcs in the base game. They also have totally different darkness tracks for the three types of darkness; as well as all new action cards (the ones that get played into the three phases of the day with the hero cards).

Is there an option to get just the "Bonus Myth content"?

Unfortunately not,.... but they have been pretty clear that while "Kickstarter Exclusive" does show up; that these are likely to be available in future Myth Kickstarters campaigns; so there should be opportunity to get them later. (Thought that may not be for a while).

There have been rumors that there may be a smaller campaign to fund the full Second Edition reprinting,.... but who knows. And some may not want to "buy the game all over again",... so that should target new backers I hope.

My best guess is that Myth Master would not go up on KS until Spring of 2018 at the soonest,.... and printing a second edition has to take precedence over that.

Final hours folks,.... I played this at GenCon last year, and it is a great co-op game.

Check it out before the campaign ends on Monday morning.

Here are some of the free unlocks that were done late in the week:

These are just examples of some of the cards that were in the "Hope" stretch goals that i discussed previously.

Lots of great cards,.... all game play stuff! Next goal is fortification minis @ $143K

I'd have considered it but the first game was so terribly boring/bad. I think the Myth style fits better with this as a board game, good luck!
