So, are there any formations for the IG, or does is solely focus on SM and Admech (and all other factions that pray to the MG). Basically would it being any value to an IG army? Probably will pick it up for the fluff, but if it has useful rules/formations/detachments/FoC ect. For the IG, then I would spend the extra for physical version.

There's the Castellans of the Imperium formation, which lets you mix and match units from several Imperial codices (including Guard). It's not Guard specific, but it does allow you to easily add units from other factions to your Guard army. I'm going to use it to add St. Celestine and some Assassins to my army

i think some great combos can be made with the castallean formation. its only the vanilla SM codex allowed unlike i originally thought but that combined with assassins, knights, and guard could be quite abusive.

i,m also so stoked to be able to take a single force Ad Mech army.

I looked up the rules for that, and well, there's enough of an excuse to buy it! I'm so broke and it 40k refuses to let me change that.

From what i've read you can use the castellan with just an inquisitor as the second army and thats it. Meanwhile ur whole army in IG and you get that sweet 5+ respawn.

No, there is little of use.
Basically, the fall of Cadia should have been the finest hour of the arguably most iconic Imperial Guard army in the entire 40K universe, with the Cadian' fighting a desperate, bloody and epic last stand against the seemingly limitless forces of Chaos, dying to buy the rest of the Imperium time to prepare their defences and muster the fleets and troops to what will become the new front lines. It should have been a long, bloody and manly battle, focusing on the Imperial Guard and maybe the Sister of Battle whom just happen to be on the planet at the time
It should have been.
Instead the Imperial Guard have once again been shafted in favour of the greatest of Mary Sues, the fething Space Marines.

Yeah, go feth yourself Space Marine players, and then you wonder why we Guard players are so bitter.

Free from GW's tyranny and the hobby is looking better for it

Well it seems there's one formation that can be any imperial army, but yes, there is definitely a SM focus, like always. Wish it had been the other way around with a large Chaos vs Imperium focus, and by Imperium large amounts of guard, some Admech, some SoB(to be fair its nice to see their getting updated), and of course some SM, but really wished they had given the IG more in this (still getting for the FoC and fluff reasons).

As a Guard player I'm actually fairly happy with Fall of Cadia. Sure we didn't get anything with this book (besides the Castellans force org), but the 13th Black Crusade is going to be a long series of events. We'll get some stuff, I have faith. Besides, Castellans gives us some nice benefits. Army wide hatred and respawning troops is nothing to sneeze at. But feel free to continue insulting all of us Marine players if you think it actually helps

Iowa city, Iowa.

Why aren't we getting stuff first though? It's our home planet that is the most iconic and most well known. The Cadians are the standard regiment, the basic plastic infantry is marked as 'cadian shock troops'. And now what? Are they just going to be 'shock troops'?

Just use the detachment like you would use your 2x cad but also include coteaz as an HQ. Now you suddenly have objective secured on all your non vehicle units, a 5+ respawn on all troops, you can ally in almost any imperium unit using your regular slots and you have more lord of war slots.

The coteaz clone wars have started again and there is not much to complain about if you are after nice guard buffs.

I want to like the Castellans detachment, but the fact that it chuffs the DA/BA/SW/etc. just bugs me to no end

There is no room for traitors and mutants in this formation. : P
I suspect that you will get a similar formation made of imperial armies that can't stand puritan inquisitors. in one of the following books.

I'm playing Black Templars and Guard, i had really high hopes for some cool stuff in this book. And while the fluff may be cool and all rules-wise i am disappointed and strongly anticipating round two...

Castellans is pretty neat.

Grand Convocation is... I don't know? IWND is neat, and it lets you mix and match without having to muck around with formations, so that's not bad. I don't know how important it is to make sure that you load up on Canticles or Imperatives.

The Conclave doesn't seem too bad. Makes me wish I had gotten the AM battleforce.

Not sure what value you get from Wrathful Crusade, although it is the *one* formation that you can actually max out units on.

All the 'Max Number of Unit' rules (except for Wrathful Crusade) are pretty pointless. There just aren't enough points available unless you're playing an Apocalypse style game, which is just an entirely different beast.

I like the looks of the look of the book because I play (or want to play) all the major players in the book, aka IG, Skitarii, Black Templar, and if they ever get rereleased, Sisters. The one formation that essentially allows you to field a desperate stand force mishmashed out of random units is kind of cool, as is the respawn rule and hatred, but it most definitely aint gonna be setting the tournament scene on fire. I just play casually though so it'll be plenty good for me. It's basically just a simpler way to mash together imperial units without going unbound, with a couple fluffy bonuses thrown in to give it a theme. Throwing Celestine and Cawl into an IG army wouldn't hurt, but it isn't going to compete with all the shenanigans of 7th.

And from what I've read the IG do get several good moments in the book, it's just that there are so many different forces on Cadia during the events that unfold that they don't get an absolutely massive spotlight simply because GW try to shine a spotlight on every group on the planet, which is pretty cool because even the sisters get a bone thrown to them. Obviously tons of Cadians took part all across the planet during the event but you're really only ever going to hear about the ones at the head of the major battle. There's a lot of potential for last stands all across the surface of the planet I'm sure, and GW's Regimental Standard blog (essentially a fake IG propaganda newspaper) made it pretty clear that a wide variety of other regiments were rushed to the planet as well, so it wasn't just cadians.

I'm actually pretty tempted to buy the book, if only to read the fluff for it and see how the new direction is going.
