Who do you think has the best generic sci Fi grunts/human troopers.

Although we don't know the cost or disposition of the boxed sets yet, I would argue mantic games GCPS troopers are in the top spot.

I personally get a very starship troopers feel from them, and the lack of any definitive markings or insignia make them customizable to your games setting.

While I think the current Scion models are the best in appearance from GW, $35 for 5 IG Stormtroopers is rough.

Mantic's GCPS beats Cadian crap and Catachan crud like they stole something.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also, I assembled 5 GCPS last night; the necks feel elongated; only when placed on the torso though. They look perfect on the sprue. I cut my necks off and assembled them. It wasn't difficult at all, but I personally preferred them that way; they seem to feel "right" this way.

The only fiddly bits for me were getting the rifle arms to line up, but then I have always been bad at that. And I've always despised the wrist joint.

I think the Dreamforge Games Eisenkern models are among the best. While their helmets do give then a Germanic appearance, you can use appropriately sized heads from other ranges.

I can't get around the fact that they look like they are wearing reinforced body suits.

No I did not. I simply said Sci Fi troopers.

While not a fan of Mantic's GCPS, they are certainly generic and mundane enough to be slotted into just about any sci-fi setting without too much hassle. Got two sprues of them via the Kickstarter, I'm sure they'll find a use for this year's Halloween event or the like.

Personally I'm quite fond of the plastic Tempestus Scions. though they may be a cut above generic.

They are also a tad expensive to consider grunts.

The GCPS models are, in fact, quite good for generic troops.

I am also very fond of the plastics from the old Mongoose Starship Troopers game.

It is also worth mentioning that the oft maligned (and rightly so) Defiance Games had their US Space Marines, which were not at all bad. (Defiance Games had myriad problems, but I liked the few things that they actually produced.)

They're nicely detailed and have some cool gear, but Mantic's human proportions just always look a bit weird and gangly to me.

Yeah, the necks are a bit too long and the faces are weird. I actually think they might be a bit too detailed; they have a lot of wrinkles in those uniforms.

While the new Mantic GCPS troopers is very nice. I'd give the edge to Anvil.

The picture is just one configuration. There's a 3D preview program you can use to customize your sci-fi grunts into a multitude of looks.

Seeing as Scions aren't allowed, I'll also put a vote in for Anvil then.

I've enjoyed assembling the Dreamforge guys (girls actually) I have, and they have a lot of options plus an expansion kit.

The Genestealer cultists look like a great kit but probably are a bit too specific for this question.

Vic's stuff appeals to me too but I've not picked any up yet.

Over the last year I have really, really enjoyed painting 2nd edition Cadians and Necromunda metals. The fact they are almost all one piece is great for grunts saving clean up and assembly time and with enough poses don't look too dull.

I'd love a plastic cannon fodder sprue of one piece plastics, maybe with head options to bulk out armies.

On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

I wonder if Northstar will do a set for Rogue Stars (thinking of something along the lines of the Frostgrave kits)

Those Anvil miniatures look great, hadn't seen them before. They do a good other line as well that look somewhat like the non power armour Brotherhood of Steel Troopers from fallout.

In keeping with my love of metals there is the STAR Trooper Kick Starter.

The light infantry really appeal to me.

And Rebel has a set of 12 of the old Star Fleet Troopers light infantry

Both male and female, for less than you'd pay for 10 Cadians even.

I rather liked the Sedition Wars Vanguard troopers.

Unfortunately they are now OOP but you can pick them up cheaply on ebay.

The Dreamforge minis are tough to beat on quality. If you wait for a good sale on the Dreamforge site, not only can you buy them for less than $1.50 each, but you can get the WW2 boxes plus the DFG accessory sprue for chump change, like 30 Russians for $7. You can't get much more generic low-budget sci fi than WW2 uniforms with sci fi heads, guns and accessories.

I am also a fan of proxie minis' troopers for their extremely simple, low-detail generic mookiness. They are $1 per mini, which seemed like an amazing price until Mantic started kickstartering their GCPS troopers and other plastics at $1 per trooper. Way to use that economy of scale, Mantic.

Speaking of Mantic, the GCPS, Asterians, Forgefathers, Veermyn and Enforcers are all very good generic kits for their Kickstarter prices. While not GW quality, they're heads above most plastics competition. I don't know if Mantic ended up selling the Enforcers at 5 for $20 retail, but that's much different proposition.

The Sedition Wars minis were amazingly cost effective when they used to sell for $18 per box. You did end up paying in blood, sweat and tears during the assembly phase, though. Still, the Strain have some of the best plastic(ish) aliens on the market, ands the vanguard blend in seamlessly with Mantic's Enforcers as the IG to the Enforcers' Space Marines.

For other restic minis, I love the MERCS 2.0 plastics. They are a bit more pricey than ogther options, but have a style and character that both make them stand out from other ranges while also making them ideal for generic near-future sci fi. The plastic does have some fine-detail issues for certain factions, though.

If the old Warzone Plastics are still available in that huge-ass bag deal, they are quite nice, although fiddly to assemble and not perfectly generic since they have an anachronistic WW1 in space vibe.

The Terminator Genysis Resistance minis would have been perfect for this, had they not been so expensive. Even at 50% off MSRP, they are still too pricey for me to recommend based on their quality, but now that they are OOP if you ever see a better deal than that, I'd say go for it.

Also, EM4 make some cheap push-fit generic sci fi soldiers.

Also, I forgot to mention Maelstrom's Edge. Their basic grunts aren't too exciting, but their specialists/command figures are really good, such as the Karist priest guy and the Epirian bot handler. They also have an upgrade sprue with cool helmeted heads and weapons.

Oh, scions are removed? Then yes. GCPS wins. By a landslide.

Scions are removed because they are elite infantry, and also this is about basic troops

The Vic Minis stuff is outstanding. Nicely sculpted, well cast. Does run to the more expensive side, though.

Indeed, It cost me around £70 for 20ish infantry (my Necromunda gang). Still cheaper than Forgeworld...

I didn't realise that Anvil had such an extensive and modular range. I am sorely tempted to make an Imperial Navy boarding party but I don't play any games that I can use them in....
