Beastmen were my first WHFB army back in 5th edition and I've always had a weak spot for the 'brown orcs '. To that effect no Kairic Acolytes will be in this list, only the true children of the Great Mutator . Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

LEADERS
Ogroid Thaumaturge

BATTALIONS

Skyshoal Coven (80)

TOTAL POINTS: 1950 / 2000

The Tzaangors have the full allotment of Mutants and Savage Greatblades. Right now I'm leaning to giving the rest of the unit Paired Savage Blades, but I really like the looks of the Savage Blade/Arcanite Shield combo. Any opinions as to which is better or what ratio of the two to take in the unit?

I haven't decided completely on the Screamers. I love the models, but for the points I can either get 60 Blue Horrors and swamp the enemy or drop one unit of Screamers and either add another unit of Tzaangors or reinforce the Exalted.

Hey!
I think the list looks like fun, very different from my list. My opinion though is that I am not a big fan of the Ogroid, but I see why you included him - beast-theme Me, I would scrap the Ogroid and one unit of screamers and put in a lord of change to buff the casting ability to all your shamans. Then add one unit of blue horrors as sacrificial first wave unit.

I would keep a unit of Screamers. With their huge movement, they are great at hunting monsters. They might not kill them but they will weaken them.

Are you allowed to have multiples of the same artifact (Souldraught)?

2000 Khorne Bloodbound (Skullfiend Tribe- Aqshy)
1000 Tzeentch Arcanites (Pyrofane Cult - Hysh) in progress
2000 Slaves to Darkness (Ravagers)

Yes.

I second the call for a LoC if you are going for a more competitive angle, but it may be too much for a casual setting.

For the tzaangor units, go with the shield. You can assign wounds to the shield models first for the extra 'save' and keep your more valuable mutants alive that much longer.

I'm definitely a casual player. As for the Lord of Change, he doesn't really fit in with the theme I'm looking for in the army. I'm hoping (but I'm not holding my breath) that a few of the Chaos monsters (Mutalith Vortex Beasts, Cockatrices, Ghorgons, Jabberslythes and Chimerae) will be updated with the 'Tzeentch' keyword as they've been specifically mentioned as fighting alongside the warflocks in the battletome. It was brought up on the Facebook page and they said they would pass it along to the rules team, so who knows?

So you wouldn't recommend mixing the Paired Savage Blades and Savage Blade/Arcanite Shield options in the unit?

Well its a ten man unit, two of them are mutants and four have great blades (with the command group presumably among those), which leaves four regular guys left. With paired blades those four will do more damage, but most of the damage will still come from the other six. The shields, on the other hand, give you an extra 6+ 'ward save' against wounds and if the shielded ones are first to die they will keep the heavy hitters up longer. Further, its likely that the unit will get into combat where 3-4 of the models aren't in melee range to attack meaning in such a combat paired blades on those models would be useless anyway. Ultimately six out of every ten Tzaangors are either mutants who get bonus attacks with their paired blades or great weapons with a better rend and damage characteristic, and the remaining four will just be fodder to soak up wounds. If those upgrades cost something then there would be a use for paired blades on a regular Tzaangor but as it stands shields is the better option.

Plus you said it yourself, the shields look cool
