I thought so too. I like this much more than the previous attempt.

Though I need a third color. What would you guys recommend? Another green? Black?

You could go for a more yellow green on the green with the idea that the brown is shade/hard vegetation, the green is vegetation and the yellow-green is the sunlight coming through the vegetation.

Looking pretty great as is bud, like it more than previous, but I guess that is because it looks more conventional.

Ladies *sly wink*

Gentlemen!

And children of all ages (GET OUT! THIS BE NOT FOR YOUR EYES!)

Welcome to another update to my P&M blog.

Today I decided to start work on the alternate top of my tank.

With that in mind I decided I had to plan things out. I arranged the bits for the whatsit hammer (Really cant be bothered to remember all the names) and saw that, 'lo and behold, I hadn't painted the mega bolter! That simply won't do!

But that was a problem for later. First things first, camo. I couldnt figure out a way to do the camo stripe that would meld with both existing lines, since the whole thing moves forward. So I thought, What Would Corr Do? And I realized that Corr is the most responsible Chem-Dog and instead thought What Would Cally Do? With that in mind, I decided "Meh, close enough."

So I moved the turret back again and set to painting the various turrets as well.

After that, I painted up the imperial eagles and the various metal areas.

And overall I think its coming along quite nicely. Don't you?

WARNING

WARNING

I AM COMMANDEERING THIS THREAD FOR GENCON AND GENCON PREP

With that warning out of the way, I present to you my newest distra- CREATION! I meant creation.

So, I bought a pack of Stormcast Eternals. I don't particularly like the models. I plan to cannibalize them to make a terminator chaplain for my Black Templars. In the process of buying them, my FLGS was kind enough to explain the basic gist of AoS to me. I may even pick up my lizardmen army again sometime since they're still valid in AoS, but that's for another time. So, I built up an eternal and was looking at the body, and I thought, you know, that would make a nice Paladin. But humans are boring. I'm a human every day of my life and I know what that's like. So I decided to make a Dragonborn Paladin.

So then I took it my work table (my mom's countertop [don't judge ] ) and set to work. First I took a "dremel" and started to get rid of the stupid lightning bolts on everything.

Then I dug a Lizardman head out of my bitz tin and applied a bit of greenstuff to the back to give him a neck.

Time for the test fit!

Not too shabby if I do say so myself.

So I took my small metal file and, using the edge, pressed the greenstuff against the head and made sure that it went flush against the flesh. Then, when I looked at the diamond pattern side of my file and got a little creative.

Then I took out my liquid greenstuff and cleaned up the dremel marks on the model.

The next step was to spray a white undercoat across the entire thing. Then I coated the armor in Leadbelcher.

Then I set to work on the details.

I applied Mithril Silver (whatever its called now) to the newly flattened areas on the shoulder pads, wrist pads and shin pads.

Then I picked them out with some gold to really get the armor to pop.

Added a bit of blue to the cloth and some Relictor Gold to the sections in between the armor (Even if it totally looks copper).

And then to finish up the night, I painted up the head and glued it in place.

Thoughts? Opinions? Comments? Criticism? Anything, just let me know.

Thanks Cam. DnD doesn't seem very grimdark to me, especially not paladins, so I tried to keep it nice and bright.

Hello one and all!

Tonight I have something that could potentially be LIFE changing for you (DISCLAIMER: Weapon is not responsible if your life is not changed by this post)

BEHOLD!!!

I picked up a new camera for Gencon. It has a macro feature, potentially it could provide me with better photos from now on. That said, the rest of the photos in this post are with the new camera. Please tell me what you think.

This is where I left off last week. A mostly complete paladin in need of some touch up.

The first thing I did was paint the scales on the sash gold. (I mean, paladins do the whole gold thing? Right?)

I also mixed up some green and blue and painted it across the plate on the top of his head in order to break up the blue a little bit.

Then I painted some of that green/blue mixture onto the scales on his cheek and then added golden yellow to his eyes with a bit of black for the pupil. As well as some of that new fancy blue gemstone technical paint on the gemstone in the axe.

I also added some blue ink to the ribbon on the axe.

And then I added some more blue ink to his face.

Then at the end I glue some sand to the base and added some red ink to the mouth to give it a bit of shading.

Questions? Comments? Criticism? Thoughts on the camera??

Looks good dude.

In terms of improving your photography, you should print out a background, the Bolter and Chainsword have a nice blue/white gradient background available to download:

Well he is looking pretty good, pretty being the operative word here. He is very pretty.

Great job.

On photography, lighting dude, it is a never ending pit photography, but getting a lighting set up does not mean money. just a few minutes and waiting til that right time of day. Not every shot has to be perfect, we are happy to see anything, but those final shots, those poser shots we need good.

I don't know if the lighting is bad. Its only about 6 inches above the model in those pictures, the only thing that changed is I stopped holding the camera and set it on the table instead. I was thinking of picking up a photo tent from amazon. They're pretty cheap.

Hey there one and all!

I'm back with one last update before I go to Gencon!

I went back to my hexblade and started to work on the details. I repainted the eyes and lips on the demolish lazer BWAH!!!!!!!!

Then I painted the aquila's on both sides.

Then I also painted the back.

And lastly, here's the final pictures of my Dragonborn Paladin (who is still unnamed).

What do you all think?

Hello one and all, I have returned from the humid hell that is GenCon and I have come to one, inescapable conclusion.

Dry heat is amazing!

It was miserable to so much as step outdoors there!

Thankfully everything was connected by skywalk and I didn't have to do that too much.

Hidden in the spoiler will be all the GenCon related pictures.

And below that we'll get right back into things!

Spoiler:

So, I have a bunch of photos to share, though I didn't nearly take as many as I thought I would. Next year I will.

First off I just want to share with you the horde.

To give you an idea, I'm 6'2" and I held my camera/phone up well over my head for these shots.

This right here is why zombie movies scare me guys. If they were all hungry for your flesh, there would be no stopping them.

By the way, all those people were waiting to go into the dealer hall.

I didn't spend much time outdoors (being a pasty nerd and all) but the few times I did it was vastly different from Tucson. So I snapped a couple of photos.

Buildings here aren't usually red brick, or so closely packed. I saw an alleyway that looked like the Waynes were murdered in it. It was bizarre. But I can't deny the architecture.

Or the people. Everyone was super friendly.

Here's the Will Call line for tickets. This is at the very end of the line btw.

This one is about the middle point in the line.

Here's the room where I had my first ever DnD session.

My character sheet for my Dragonborn Paladin, whom I dubbed Laird Setkhatt.

And my first ever DnD group. The two girls to the left are the two I was staying with. The redhead and the two guys in black and pale red were randomly assigned to our table and the man in the back in bright red is Josh, our DM. He was great! He helped me really enjoy my first RPG experience.

This is something called Cardhalla. People spent the entire weekend building things from donated cards.

I think on the last day you can throw money to knock them down. I'm not sure.

Can you tell which photos were taken near midnight?

GenCon is so big it even infiltrates local businesses. Like The Ram.

Scotty's is another place that gets into the spirit of things. They played awesome movies all weekend and sold Cthulhu Brew beer (I don't drink so I didn't get any), a Cthulhu Brew mug (I don't drink but I can totally drink whatever out of a mug [though I didn't get a picture of it]) and this little Ghost Goblin Minimate (disregard my collection of knicknacks surrounding it).

Now for some Cosplay!

This is by far the kewlest one I saw. This guy did great work!

Found some guardsmen patrolling the dealer hall. They walked past me and my friend Jan and we had to fight against the current of people to get them to stop for a photo.

These guys all put amazing work into their costumes. Again, had to stop them in the dealer hall.

Caught these guys standing around relaxing and asked them politely if they wouldn't mind posing for a photo. They were happy to oblige.

Spotted this Sabine Wren on a floor above us, and me and Jan had to split up to get to her before she moved. Jan got their first.

Passed by this Tali on the way back to the hotel room after making a foam sword.

And yet another great cosplay that was very funny (I am not responsible for your eyes!)

Jan has more, but I haven't received a copy yet. I will share them when I do.

I mentioned taking a sculpting class from THE Joe Orteza. Here's some photos of that.

Didn't get a photo of Joe... remind me to do that next year.

NOW FOR THE SWAG!! First off being the badge itself. Some events have these little adhesive ribbons that stick to it, I only got 3 total, but I saw people going around with some seriously long ones.

Planet Mercenary Dice! Planet Mercenary RIPP Tokens! Schlock Mercenary Pin! XDM Water Skin! Team Instinct Pin! GenCon Pins! GenCon Challenge Coins! Random Coins from The Stink! (annual pre-GenCon gathering). Scotty's Brewhouse die! Unlucky D20 (two 1's no 20's, also given out at The Stink).

Planet Mercenary Dice Bag!

(Note: I got all this Planet Mercenary stuff just for playing the game. I kickstarted it too and will have some other things coming eventually)

My new d20, my orange and yellow chessix ones failed me so hard I had to go to the dealer hall and get some new ones. This thing is huge and heavy and when I roll, people know it.

The rest of that dice set (including a normal sized d20.

A close-up of the Ultra Ball necklace.

And the things I wanted most from the dealer hall. Fantasy Arc's Bug Hunt Corridor Specialty Rooms!

All right, sweethearts, what are you waiting for?
Breakfast in bed?
Another glorious day in the Corps!
A day in the Marine Corps is like a day on the farm.
Every meal's a banquet!
Every paycheck a fortune!
Every formation a parade! I love the Corps!

So, as I said, I was really looking forward to picking up some Fantasy Arc Bug Hunt Corridors (seeing as how I'm a HUGE Aliens fan). So day 1 of GenCon I waded through the sea of people and found their booth and immediately snatched up a full set of the specialty rooms. And last night I picked one and started building.

They didn't come with instructions so I popped over to their website and printed out a handy PDF. The instructions aren't terribly intuitive (I was thinking more like lego instructions and less like Ikea) but I think I managed to understand things okay as I went about my building business.

First I laid out all the pieces. The detail work is REALLY great. I can't wait to paint this bad boy up.

It even comes with little wooden pulse rifles!

They're nice but I'll see about ordering up a bunch of these from Mad Robot to replace them.

So next I started to assemble to main room.

There's a minor laser burn but nothing that can't be painted over or patched with a tiny bit of liquid green stuff.

Did a dry fit to make sure the door was properly situated.

From there I began to glue the entryway together.

Next up, the gun racks themselves.

With the back piece attached.

And with the grate attached to the top. If you get yourself a set of these, be careful, I ended up breaking two of those supports as the wood is cut very thin there. But a little glue and no one is the wiser.

Dry fit the interior bulkhead door.

Finished piece. The armory doors are independent and can move freely (its wood on wood so it doesn't slide too well. Maybe I'll sand them a tiny bit to give them some breathing room. The whole interior room is not glues as well so I can place it as I need.

Then I had a moment of panic. I looked at the pulse rifle and thought they looked a little small. So I ran and grabbed a nearly complete stormtrooper that keeps getting pushed further and further back as I ADD on cool new things and put him in the set.

Aside from his sword, he seems to fit nicely. So, crisis averted.

Also, all this makes me very happy for the sculpting class I took. Maybe I can make some nice gooey looking hive bits and make it look like the facility has been partially taken over!

Thoughts? Comments? Criticism?

Hello everyone!

Today I have some more Bug Hunt Corridors to show you!

But first! My supply drop came in.

BAM! A ton of pulse rifles from Mad Robot to fill out my nice new armory

While I was at it I also picked up some CDF female heads, torsos, and a set of commander arms.

I also kept the excess resin because I can probably do something terrain-y with it.

The pulse rifles with 1 flamethrower mixed in all sprue free.

First thing I did tonight was base coat the room interior black.

Then I base coated the armory itself white. I even sanded down the doors a bit so they'd slide in their track a little easier.

Then I gave the entire floor a once over with leadbelcher and then with black ink to make it look dirty.

Then I sprayed the pulse rifles. I put them all on a piece of tape so the can wouldn't send them skittering.

*INSERT CHAIN GUN JOKE HERE*

The completely inked floor.

I also started on the wall panel, but it looks a little rough. I'm going to sand all the walls down and then try again next weekend.

That's all I have for you today.

Lemme know what you all think.

Me too, Cam. But like I said I really need to sand the pieces some more to make them truly shine. And now I know to sand them before I assemble everything. I feel that once those interior walls are sanded a bit and the interior door a bit more then everything will be quite nice.
