I wonder if FW will also do something on Tallarn sooner or later.

FW have shown it in their timeline of major HH battles, so I don't think it is unfeasible for it to feature in a book similar to Conquest, maybe with White Scars in, seeing as it is a bit long to wait until Terra before introducing them.

Actually, White Scars where the main Marine forces opposing the Iron Warriors on Tallarn, so yeah, that may be the way they introduce the Legion in the FW books.

Possibly for a different thread but i've seen that Iron Hands and Imperial Fists in previous fluff being mentioned. Also Space Wolves and Dark Angels fought there on their way to Terra. Tallarn is where the fight between Leman Russ and a Titan happens. I never believed the story but it's in WD #233. Well, it's not an actual fight, he jumps on the back and gets in to the crew compartment.

Wasn't that Avatar in Aurellian half dead though?

I think Fulgrim killed an Avatar at full strength.

Not so much half dead as really being dead but not knowing yet. What he did to that Bloodthirster though is much more impressive and that's looking at the "wimpiest" of the Primarchs.

Magnus wasn't loyal. He'd already pledged himself to Tzeentch decades before that in exchange for more power. He just didn't know it yet.

Hope you got that sorted !

.. Ironclad was a pretty cool read.

Not quite sure it was deserving of the hoopla/format. As the book was 230 odd pages think they might as well have just bitten the bullet and released it as a full regular novel.

Wouldn't be any-more confusing to readers than, say, the (re)appearence of various grey clad figures in Vengeful Spirit one would suggest...?

Anyway ...

Alongside the somewhat out of leftfield release of the Bloodbowl novels

http://www.blacklibrary.com/all-products/the-blood-bowl-ebook-collection.html -- also available individually

The various necromunda novels have made the jump to ebook as well

http://www.blacklibrary.com/ebooks/necromunda

.. might be of interest to some anyway.

.. and then those same people can curse the fact that none of these made it the POD service that GW were running for a while

There's been a novel with each End Times rules release and the recent Malus Darkblade one tied in as well.

But there's been nothing else even hinted at -- odd reprint aside.

.. Which, frankly, tells one that something is happening and will be revealed in due course.

.. certainly seems like there's one or two writers busy working on "things" anyway...

Well, I picked up the new Rise of Nagash book and I am enjoying it. However, I do have some questions.

1. The books takes place after a Bretonnian Civil War and some sort of events in the Empire and on Ulthuan have changed the status quo. Is there a prequel that covers these events? It seems like some named characters have been moved across or even off gthe board by the time the book starts.

2. What are the best or most necessary WFB novels to come out in the last 5 years or so? I stopped reading around the time that William King came back and Chris Wraight had just finished his Empire Big Men With Facial Hair duology. It seems like there have been significant fluff advances for Neferata, Gotrek, Volkmar and some others I would like to read about; are there good books to cover those events?

3. Anyone in the US interested in a book exchange program?

As for Rise of Nagash, I quite enjoyed Arkhan the Black's character, as well as the Skaven. The over-arching plot, unfortunately, felt like it was written by committee and dictated to the author, which I suppose is true. At Least the author made the best of it.

Sigmar's Blood is kind of a prequel... there might be one other novella that sets it up as well ...?

Think a lot of the background was seeded in the various army books, with most of the details being detailed in the various supplements, the novels then providing a more detailed "snapshot" of a few key moments/events.

... I think ...

I read "Slayer: Book 2 in the Doom of Gotrek Gurnisson" two part story arch and the conclusion of the long running series.

It was an easy read, featuring cameos from every villian and hero that crossed paths with the pair in their long journey, which was a nice trip down memory lane.

Spoiler:
Compared to Kinslayer, this oddly enough didn't have as much emotional impact for me as I thought it would. Ulrika, who was a staple in a few books in the Slayer Series as well the star in her own pretty good trilogy of books, died in that novel. As did Snorri Nosebiter, another staple of the Slayer series and one of the more unique characters to ever grace the pages of a Black Library novel, was also killed after confessing his part in setting Gotrek on his path. His death at the hands of Gotrek while Felix, Max and some new faces watched, was pretty powerful. (As far as Black Library novels go)

The death tally in this novel on the other hand was pretty light. Max Shrieber, again another recurring character in the series, dies fighting Belakor, the main villian of this book and partial architect of Gotreks entire journey. His condition in this novel and the previous one, was a cool insight into how deeply the End Times physically affected magic practitioners. They were made more powerful but also lose alot in the bargain. Max who was normally thoughtful and wise, became cryptic and insular.

Gotrek finally meets his doom, which is to replace Grimnir in the Realm of Chaos, using both of the aforementioned Ancestor Gods axes in an eternal battle with the denizens of that realm. He was always meant to, the moment he found Grimnirs Axe in the Chaos Wastes. Gotreks long journey was solely to make him tougher, stronger and more prepared for what awaited him when he found Grimnir in the Fortress of the First Slayer, the spot where Grimnir entered into the Realm of Chaos to try to slay the Chaos Gods. The last Slayer replaces the first in an eternal battle with Chaos.

Felix, after accompanying Gotrek to the Realm of Chaos and finally witnessing his doom, ends up in a small pocket of rubble in the ruins of the previously mentioned fortress. Its implied that he will die of asphyxiation as the air in his chamber is running out. Under the dying light of his magical sword, he pens the final part of Gotreks doom. Pretty melancoly and not the ending I expected. Then again, this is an End Times novel, so I really shouldn't have expected a Disney Ending.

Its mentioned that Grimnir, having imbued Gotrek with his power, then enters the mortal world but doesn't go into detail. Whether he heads to Karaz-a-Karak to fight with his people as their final hold falls isn't said. It also, like the previous book, Kinslayer, mentions that Valaya fell as well, but not in much detail. Warhammer:Nagash implied that Nagash found her hiding place and fed on her magics. It doesn't say if that was a fatal encounter or not, which bothered me. Almost seemed like a loose end that was never tied up. Grungni, the third Dwarf God, is never mentioned.

Belakor is hit with Gotreks axe at its full strength, having its Rune of Unbinding activated by its creator. Its purpose was to kill the Chaos Gods, so its safe to assume he's gone for good as well, but you never know with that dude. A corpse is never seen.

For all of the doom and gloom in this novel, there are a few words said by Grimnir that inspire hope in some respect. Passing mention of "Other worlds" and how they will need their gods and his almost casual indifference to the plight of his race as their last hold is besieged led me to think he knows some things about the future that he's not being too forthcoming about.

All in all, a good ending to the series, although I would've wanted something on a more grand scale , personally.

The only references I caught were from the William King novels. But aside from the most recent one, set in Khemri, I don't remember much of them to be honest.

I dug it, mainly because Tomb Kings get little to no love from Black Library, minus the Nagash series, which was pre-Tomb Kings for the most part.
