Following fire gives you a free blaze away action if your first was a hit. So if you blaze away successfully, you can do it again, at the same or another cube. Makes it pretty useful, plus dude has a nasty punch fist so he can defend himself better than the normal burst laser enforcer.

I think my Rebs are going to have to go the way of the Dodo, visually my favourite faction but they are damn near useless in their current form.

Regarding that Gmorts pictorial on the strider, mould lines still seem to be an issue with the restic, the ones on the crew head sprue look terrible.

Doesn't make sense at all. How can JT look at the Rebs and say "I know what they need, it's a point increase!" I'm really hoping that Mantic can start looking at other games designers, I mean I like JT work for Mantic but with his refusal to see certain things in his work that don't work/under or over powered it doesn't bode well. My Forge Fathers for Dreadball have gone into permanent retirement due to JT refusing that there is a problem with them.

No way my Rebs are going the way of the Dodo. The one advantage to not having other Mantic collectors / players / tournaments anywhere nearby is that I have the freedom to house rule as necessary. If the Rebs are losing every game when my wife starts playing them, they won't be when I'm through enhancing them. I'm not interested in one-sided games, even if I'm on the winning side: I want a challenge. And if the new cards just weaken the Rebs further, we won't be using them.

It is a shame Jake is going about this backwards and has effectively made things worse, but at least I won't have any arguments with other Deadzone players that I "can't just make up new rules" etc. for the Rebs. It certainly beats shelving a faction that looks fantastic, and that I've already spent who knows how many hours cleaning and assembling.

At a certain point you'd think Mantic themselves would step in, since this imbalance has to be hurting sales of the Rebs team, or will do when word gets around enough. It's not like people will be buying them to fill out some 40K faction.

Jake is fantastic at making core rule systems, but they need to find some other guy to write balanced factions for them.

Completely agree with this. Though in DZ mele is VASTLY superior to shooting....

I'll have to pick the game back up at some point and give it another outing. I stopped playing once I figured out how broken frag and massive frag were.

There's a lot of ex-GW alumni freelancing out there that Ronnie should be able to get hold of pretty easily. Priestly, Chambers and of course, Alessio.

Alessio will probably be doing warpath 3.0 won't he? Did kings of war, and unless i'm mistaken, the other warpath stuff.

Me too, I don't really get a chance to play Deadzone that much but will get that strike force boxset for sure.

Yeah - but balancing/writing army lists is certainly within his remit. Look at how many writers have had a hand in Bolt Action and its army books, for example.

Wariwick Kinrade is another one.

Or even find someone who isn't terrible!

Steal one from FFG, maybe. Or find out where Eric Yaple went off to.

GW does not mean balanced at any time in history. I played fantasy and 40K since 2nd edition fantasy, and there was always power creep and min maxed armies, lets not fool ourselves.

Well, hopefully if my rules committee application is successful I can start pushing for some balance changes.

I asked to join the Deadzone and Warpath teams for it.

Anyone else here go in for it, writing your own KoW campaign or Dreadball setting as an application?

With the Rebs apparently one of the guys at the studio wins with them about half the time therefore the faction is balanced.

I do kinda wonder how much their internal playtesting actually pushes the game though, have they tried out a 6 mawbeast, 2x captain power list etc.

For anyone wondering... Command Action, Sprint, Command Action, Sprint, Move card, Sprint. is the crazy movement way of doing it that can kill any model of your choice on turn 1 since it gets you from one end of the board to the other (and if you don't need the full 7, you can get mean and can still play fight or weak spot card when you hit the enemy for 7 dice on 3+ with AP 1 or 6 dice with AP 2)... but the deadly way of doing it is:

Sprint into combat, play weak spot or fight card, kill and double, get free action, set off infinite melee chain, use your 2 command actions to patch it up any time it breaks. If the dog dies, plenty more where that came from, and often the enemy won't score any VPs for it. If a mawbeast ever fails, send in more mawbeasts!

Rules committee? Now that's a step in the right direction; if nothing else it means that people outside of the corporate ecosystem (even contractors) are looking at the rules.

yeah I've done that a few times with my Ripper(Bone?) Swarm for my Plauge. Which iscwhy melee is vastly overpowered. With shooting if you double I believe you can reduce their Nerve (it's been a while since I played) big difference between the two.

Ouch, hadn't even considered pulling that trick with a plague swarm. That's even more horrible since those things are damn near impossible to shift once they get locked into melee, and they're a lot more bitey, and start the game enraged.

Thick question but how are you doing two command actions in one go? Aren't they long actions?

There's a tendency to field 2 leaders, say a Stage 3A General and a Stage 1.

Or a mauler suit and the captain.

Clearly those that do it regularly have far better dice than mine.

Would suggesting that you can only have one command action per Round help at all?

My emphasis. Multiple leaders who can all use the command action and who populate the command pool with more tokens.

Just checked my email but see nothing.
Guessing it's either a time difference OR an email you got due to backing one/more Mantic KS.
Any insight you can share about 'enhanced rulebook'? Assuming it's a DZ product but Mantic discussions do move about at times.
Thanks.

Not on their mailing list. What's going on?

Playing: Droids (Legion), Starks (ASOIAF), BB2
Working on: Starks (ASOIAF), Twilight Kin (KoW). Droids (Legion)

I read about it in a backer-only DZ kickstarter update, haven't checked for the newsletter yet.

Mantic digital, enhanced rulebooks that aren't just pdf for the digitally inclined. There's a complete deadzone collection available, or soon to be, it's all four books including the main rulebook, nexus psi, incursion, and whatever the zombie book is called... when it comes to exist. I wasn't especially impressed by the price and the rules seem pretty simple and easy to remember anyway (don't see myself needing to reference too often)... I mean, if you were going to buy the rulebook and one of the expansions in hard-copy off the shelf, then you'd probably be fine to buy the collection instead, what with the features and the being updated with errata/changes as they happen.

But since i've got everything coming in paper, and the hardback compendium, no less, i'm probably going to skip it. As a stretch goal during the kickstarter... now that i would have been excited for, but after my money is all spent and other new things are vying for it.. nah.

Contagion is the 4th book.

Backers get a discount code of 20% off for the Digital rulebook (not to be confused with pdfs). Price is 39.99, I believe, for all 4 in one go.

It says $39.99 to me. I'm assuming before till discount, or else why have a code?

£24.99 in real money.

I purchased the Deadzone bundle and the 39.99 is before the discount. With discount for the Kickstarter backers it cost me $26.00 US. Not bad for all four books, plus the interactive nature is pretty nice, especially for a web app. I didn't find any problems on my iPad doing a quick flip through. What I really like is the addition of Living Rules updated into the rulebook. I know Jake has made some fixes and changes on his site and this will save me the time of having to go find all those FAQ's.

On Mantic Digital site it's listed as on-sale for $39.99 for all four DZ books (with Contagion to be auto-added when it releases).

I'd have to drop, about $60 without any retail discount (and about that counting shipping with a discount) to pick up the 3 expansion/campaign books beyond core.
