Subject: Dakka Painting Challenge Round 68 October 2020: Halloween Special.
Welcome all to the 68th round of the Dakka Painting challenge. For the unfamiliar, this is a friendly painting competition open to members of all skill levels and experience, whether your entry is your first or you thousand-and-first time painting miniatures. Each month, finished entries are collected into a thread where the community can vote on their favorite pieces, and those votes go towards an annual overall League that runs for 12 rounds, ending in February next year.
The month of October is our fall classic, the Halloween Special. Spooks and scares, ghosts and goblins, monsters and madness. Things that go bump in the night. Let all break out the frights, and make this month spooktacular!
How To Enter
- You may enter up to five models as a SINGLE ENTRY, and are permitted one entry per member per month. If you enter multiple models, they should ideally be related in some way, such as part of the same squad, unit or scene if you are doing a diorama
- You MUST post a 'proof' picture of your entry in the thread of the state it was in before you started working on it; this must be either unassembled, unpainted, primed or coated a single colour. Entries that do not submit a valid Proof Picture will not be eligible for voting.
- After this, you may post WIP pictures in this thread and your own if you wish, and on completing the entry, you may post up to 6 final pictures IN THIS THREAD that will then be used for voting. Please note that pictures in a montage or collage picture will be considered individual images for this purpose, so while these types of presentation are certainly acceptable, please keep the image limit in mind when compiling them. For example, a collage of 5 images and one separate image would count as your 6 picture allowance.
So What Do I Win?
- Points... and points mean... bragging rights for the next month! Following the vote, points will be awarded to every entrant. This year, the Points you receive will be equal to the Percentage of Votes your entry receives in the final Voting thread; if you get 10%, you get 10 points, if you get 6% you get 6 points, so on and so forth.
These points will be used to form a league table, which will be updated month on month as the results come in.
How Long Do I Have?
This challenge begins 1st of October and will end at midnight Eastern time on the 31st of October. After this, I shall compile the finished entries into a new thread, and voting will run for 5 days.

Good luck everyone. Following my disappointing showing in Sept, I'm going to bail on this one. But looking forward to seeing what you all do - it's always a fun month
Dark Angels/Deathwing - just getting started!
Space Marines - Stark Crusaders 4500pts/PL244 (2700pts painted)
Eldar - Biel Tan 2000pts
Space Wolves 1500pts
Finally it's October! These two are eager for some paint. I will enter one of the undead scourges of the Mortal Realms: The Cairn Wraith. Hot on it's heels is the best paranormal investigator in all the realms: Hellboy.

I'll be going for at least one of these beasts. There are the two figures from the Cthulhu pack for Death May Die, plus Cthulhu from Shadows of Brimstone

Look, I posted this while I was still working on my first cup of coffee. The fact that it’s semi-coherent with just minor errors and not just an angry mash of letters tossed up onto the web in a minor miracle.
I think October is the best month to get working on some scary Elves From the Woods. Let's start with this old Spellsinger I got off eBay in a sorry half-primed state*
Have some more ideas though, will add further proof pics if these materialize.
* which of course blended in at once with the dozens of minis I had left half-primed myself over the last ~25 years, who are now silently fuming over being neglected over some 'newcomer', once again

Following a disastrous finish to last month I will try to pull it back with this guy, Be'lakor the original daemon prince, master of the shadows ... and finecast! what could be scarier!!
I found these guys while digging in my box of undead minis:
From left to right: two Ral Partha wraiths or ghosts or something from the 1980's, a RAFM Angel of Death, and an old Citadel vampire. I plat to start with the Ral Partha guys and see how far I can get this month.
Well I obtained a group of old Metal Goliaths in trade (yes I have figures to paint again)...they are some of the ugliest GW figures and I guess sort of scary.
So I will paint up to five of them for this month.
Cheers,
CB
So by scary...I mean these five Goliaths are some of the ugliest models sculpted for the original Necromunda range. Only slightly above the plastic Goliaths that came with the game box set.

Okay, so this will be another month i say i'll play and won't get it done . Just so happens i was printing this monstrosity and it will take most of the weekend and part of the next week to finish . H's a big boy.
Just to give an idea of the completed model.
four armed and four axe wielding Chaos Dwarf mechanical beast of Destruction.
Each axe takes about 9hours. his two arm sections are each 20+ hours. his right leg just started a bit ago, hopefully it will be done when i wake up in the morning before work.
LOL, Theo your mind is an amazing place, never change.-camkierhi 9/19/13

I'd put you on ignore for that comment, if I could...Alpharius 2/11/14

I don't really have anything that would fit the halloween theme, except maybe a converted exodite Avatar I've been putting together. It's not Khaine, though, it's an Avatar of Lileath, who I'm saying is trapped in the warp. Would that do?
I guess I could always paint up some primaris reivers since they're wearing halloween masks...

Both would work.
Avatars are inherently spiritual, and fit. Otherworldly things work well.
Reivers are basically trick or treaters with combat knives and krack grenades, so work well.
Taking a break from the space puppies for Halloween. Will also be doing some oil painting! Wheeeee!!!!

Heres my proof pic. The woodlands characters from the Talisman expansion. Not the best quality of models but i am painting them for a friend and have already had them 3 months so figured its about time i got them done.
Spider queen seems spooky enough to fit the theme.

Won't be able to enter this month unfortunately, but I'm really excited to see what spooky critters people com up with! This is the best of all months, and contains the best of all holidays. Seems fitting that it would host the best of all painting entries! Have fun everyone. Can't wait to see what you come up with.
My painting log is full of snakes Have any retro, vintage, or out of print models? Show them off here! Games I play: 40k (CSM, Necrons); AoS/Fantasy (Seraphon/Lizardmen); Warcry; Marvel Crisis Protocol; Wargods of Olympus/Aegyptus; Mythos

Going to try to get done these Julie Guthrie sculpted Ral Partha skeletons. My favorite sculptor and animal heads do a lot to overcome my usual "meh" reaction to skeletons...

Something old and not by GW. I am officially competing against you this month.
Not positive where she's from, my brother gave her to me. But, I'll be painting up this little chainsaw-wielding minx. There is a severed zombie hand grabbing her pantleg if she's not 'monster' enough.
Anyone who looks like they are in a horror film is fine. As always, if you think your entry fits, it probably does. The theme is there as a springboard to launch ideas, not shackle your creativity. You can stretch it pretty far and it will be OK.
