Ahh that was me testing out a printer many moons ago, such a classic image, who doesn't love a Genestealer Cult? There were/are rumours of a Codex similar to the recent Harlequins which I would have to spend willpower not to do.....

Yeah, if that happens and the linking pieces/units between the two factions are nice models then i'll be spending some cash.
Whoop whoop 40,000 pt army! Now where's my opponent!

When I'm done with all my stuff I'll be at like 12k? So I'll fight just your Genestealers...

Some loot pics for you delectation. Expansions require supplies...

20 Cadians for my Conscripts etc, Weapon teams I've had for a while and used some of the stuff from, I've ordered some more 60mms and have enough bitz to do a Rocket team. The Hydra/Wyvern I want to find a way to magnetize not sure yet if this is doable...

Some trashed bits Alex has amassed from eBay trades he doesn't want as Cadians are the only regiment he doesn't collect. All donations are always very gratefully received and this little lot will be very useful. The spods should clean up and become conscripts, the special weapons will be the beginning of my Engineers/Special weapons team and the old Junior officer will become a Junior officer as I don't tend to run PW/PF on my PCS now they are wildly more expensive in pts.

These little puppies are also a gift from Alex (he has a big box of em and they can be seen a bit in his ercent clash with MLCS's Tau) I'm not sure of the company name, he may enlighten us..I think they are a more realistic ADL, more plausable and fit my armies theme better I think.

This pile of resin is a Ramshackle Games artillery cannon on trailer. It was ordered by my partner for me for Xmas and was delivered very late, as a sweetener he included an Anti Air quad gun and a bunch of random extras/miscasts. I was very happy with this. It means I can create a Quad gun for the above ADL, the counts-as Basilisk I planned origianlly and have a pile of stiff for bases/objective markers etc.

Requisitioned off eBay, this guy will be my Primaris, I don't like the 'proper' model, he looks too efficient and a bit like Paul Daniels..

And that's magic!

This guy looks like it's really hurting him and that he might explode at any point, much more 'guard-y'.

Part of the Escalation Campaign challenge this month is too produce some objective markers. Never one to take an easy option is there is an involved convoluted way of doing things I decided to make a little command post..

Rough mock up seen here. It will be a nice objective in the 'Emprah's Will' mission that Alex always calls 'bases' as you both are attacking and defending a base. In conversation with MLCS during our last game the idea arose to make a proper base, hence the above. There will be space for a model to stand too, modeled here by the model of Commissar Combrink. I have the fancy crashed Sentinel Relic Objective marker made already and will do some simpler 'crates glued to a base' to make up the count to 6. I will have a number on them all for Scouring purposes.

The only thing yet to buy is more artillery, I'm thinking of getting some more Ramshackle stuff to make 2 more Hydra/Wyverns as these will fill out my force nicely..

I was thinking or ordering the middle section of the Newly released Land Train, the quad guns should come with a short barrel variant too which could be magnetized...

So this is what I've got to be getting on with.....

First up will be 20 Conscripts and a Priest I will convert out of parts.

More soon!

Wow, so you have a lot to be working on!

I chuckled when I realised it but; although you have a lot to work on, it cant be more than 500 points of IG(?). Makes me realise just how much work (and money) it must take to get a good IG force up and running.

Nice supply drop. That psyker looks like he needs some aspirin in a bad way. I think he might have a hangover. And when the psychic tells you his head feels like it’s going to explode, listen. That, or put a bolt round into his head before he spawns some warp abomination.

Love the forward command post. I need to make some objective markers myself, will file that idea away.

It's actually 625pts! That's for 32 infantry, 2 heroes, 4 tanks (more self propelled guns really) and a barricade. The other thing I'm adding (but forgot to mention), though only for Apocalypse really, is 2 more Assassins (to get the full set) that's another 275pts! The stuff I'm doing happens to be the really low point cost stuff, the 20 Conscripts are only 60pts for example and all the Hydras/Wvyerns are only 70/65pts respectively. The fully tricked out Shadowsword my Colonel rides around in is 730pts however. The additions will take my 'everything' list to 5328pts with 173 Men and 21 Vehicles.

Yep. Do you know Commissars will automatically execute a Psyker is he makes a 'Perils' roll?, really fun rule (called 'It's for your own good!'). So we make sure they don't play together.......

Hiya,

SO on to the Conscripts, though I think of them as recruits..

Here are those guys Alex gave me, they've been 'pro-converted' with lovely paper cloaks, shouldn't take the piss really, we all start somewhere. They ripped off ok as can be seen on the lefternmost guy.

After snapping off loads of bits, seen here, I replaced the bits with less 'mash-up' ones..

Resulting in these fine fellows..

One of them does have a cool FW head I'll try to rip off to go in my engineers..

Painty painty, here is a Junior Officer from the same lot I'll be using for the Escalation Campaign...these guys are basecoated and ready for inking...

Got to run more soon......

More spods are happening..

I do love the Cadian sprues, with a little posing one can create very characterful troopers with only minimal changes, this guy will get a wedge added to his torso to give a better leaning angle..

To lead this unit and make it slightly useful will be a Priest. After scouring the ranges for a long time I decided I don't really like any of the stock models. I think the 'tramp in a dress' look is too gothic/daft for this army so I decided to take inspiration from real military forces and think of him as more of a Chaplain (not the SpassMareen type). So I thought standard issue uniform and equipment then. I found an interesting head in my Bitz Box that I genuinely don't know where it came from, thanks Bitz gods! I think it's a Space Wolf head?

First level of GS. I then spent ages deciding whether is shirt should be regulation gray or a divergent black. I'm going with black, more slimming. It also is a slight parallel to the Marine Chaplain who also gives 'Zealot' to his unit.

Last GSing. I think he looks ready to lead a 'Forlorn Hope'. Which is basically what he'll be doing a lot. Lucky he's 'Fearless'. With the re-rolls to hit and if you can get off his 'Battle Hymn' of re-rolling to wound this unit can actually hit pretty hard (by IG standards). I toyed with the idea of rebuilding his hand, currently tracing a benediction, to be holding a book aloft, I decided against it however as it would have probably snapped off in like game 2 and made me a sad panda.

Beginnings of painting..

Once this unit of 20 is done I'll have met (last) months quota for the escalation campaign. I'll repost my list here and I've completed my first BatRep for the Campaign too. I hope to get the last 2 games in this week. Alex issued an additional challenge of completing some Faction themed objectives and work is progressing on these as well..here's the 750pt list...with FANFIC!!!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Commissar Combrink was worried. There were not outward signs but the situation was going from bad to worse.

*click clank*

The landing flotilla of Higgins Assault ships had been caught in a sudden warp squall, Combrink had seen some explode, others simply cease to be and so far, only his had made the rendezvous. His pilot had effected a text book crash landing and had succeeded in only killing himself. The troops were alive but stranded miles from the capital, their objective.

*click clank*

Unable to achieve Vox contact with anyone and having no Astropath they had managed to reach the capital on their own. Once the had entered the city of Testea, a short interview with the planetary governor showed him to be a traitor. He was in talks with the filthy Tau and ready to succeed to their Empire when the Dark ones attacked, his Astropath sent the standard call from help and he set about trying to cover his tracks. Not well enough, Combrink had been smelling out traitors, cowards and mutants for years and saw through his petty facade. One bolt round to the face later and that problem was solved. Now they just had to cow the entire populace of an M class planet....

*click clank*

He cocked and fired his empty bolt pistol in an absent minded fashion. Then there was the officer commanding, Captain Steiner, his plan had been to dig in and await reinforcement instead of taking the fight to the foul xenos, his cowardice had to be remedied before it infected the ranks...

*click clank*

In extremis Commissars were taught to apply the 'Litany'

BE PURE
BE VIGILANT
BEHAVE

This was all he had now. This tiny force was all he had to destroy 2 alien factions and quell a populace that had truck with the extraterrestrial. A force that was nearly half conscripts and only a handful had been in hard fighting before. However there was a chance that other elements of his regiment would arrive sooner or later and there had been a garbled transmission that seemed to be of Space Marine origin, they could surely be their deliverance, provided they too; weren't mutants and traitors.....

*click clank*

".........Excuse me Lord......."

Combrink snapped out of his reverie and looked at the blood spattered corporal.

"Yes Corporal Jenkins?"

".........er Do you wish us to remove...well.....that...." He indicated the headless body of Captain Steiner.

"mmmmm .....................Yes please, by the way, you have command of 3rd Platoon now Lieutenant Jenkins.."

"....err Me? ...................I mean I won't let you down sir!

"Oh I know that Jenkins, I know"

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Here's the finished shots..

CHARGE!! I've used these guys in 3 games now and they have been great in all of them. The troopers are all speed painted really, nice to do some quick guys after doing labour intensive Marines..

A simple paint job on the Priest too, went with the black shirt to link him to Chaplains (the SM variety) and a white collar/scarf to echo real life dog collars..I did him with browny/red hair to make him stand out, you may also notice the white creeping in to, thought it might lend him some gravitas.

Speed painted troopers, I did manage a few tiny conversions with these guys, the dude on the left has a GS wedge tilting him making it look like he's preparing to throw. The other guy just had his hand rotated so that he can hold his rifle vertically. I tried not to get too bogged down with these guys as there are 20 of them and they are only 3pts each.

I hope you like. I have finished my custom Objectives now, in time for the end of the month deadline, I've some wip pics uploaded I'll post up soon and I'll try to do some finished shots today/tomorrow. I'm quite pleased with them so see what you think. I managed to use them in a recent game vs Alex's new DE for the escalation campaign, watch out for an upcoming BatRep soon.

I like the priest, but at a glance it’s hard to tell him apart from any other officer. Besides the (well done) subtle collar. Could you hang a book or a rosarius off his belt? Or just be sure to point him out to your opponents.

Are whiteshields still a thing in the guard?

Yeah Alex was saying something similar, I may add a book thingy, Alex suggested checking the Grey Knights sprues..

Sort of, IG don't have the little shields for insignia anymore..so they are just called Conscripts, they are also don't have Ld10 like the originals either!

Probably don’t believe in helmet stripes either. Guardsmen these days. Of course, as an Ultramarine PDF, you’d be sending all sorts of mixed messages. White markings on IG = not earned the right to wear the regiments colors semi-skilled cadets, while white on marines = 1st company veterans.

I just always found the concept and fluff on the whiteshields to be very cool.

The one GK kit I have doesn’t have a book, but does have plenty of reliquary like things. I think I’ve got a book in my bitz box dating from Mordheim. Even a handful of purity seal might help out a bit.

Yes my Sarges all have a white stripe especially because of the 1st Company thing.

Yeah I always liked 'em, they've punched well above there weight in CC too, taking out Tack squads, Kabalites (see upcoming report /spoliers) and Tau HQs.

I'll see what Alex has lying around, he built a GK army for a commission so has all sorts of spares lying around...

Looking good (although I obviously had the dubious pleasure of a close encounter with the finished priest and most of the 'scripts not long ago).

Your objectives also look great. There's a rumour going around the net that you and Alex played a 'Relic' mission last week for Scrotox. I've been struggling not to ask either of you how it played out but I'm confident I can wait for the report to go up.

Re the Priest - A book would work but probably just a small one (Penguin classic maybe?). I'll keep my optics polished.

Here are the wip shots of the Objective markers I've been making for the Escalation thing.

So some basic ones first..the idea was to have these easy ones and then take some time making a flash one for the 'Emprah's Willy' or 'Bases' mission. The first one here is a shallow grave which; as we know, most PDF troopers will become familiar with one of these pretty soon. This will also be my '1' point objective for 'Teh Scouring'. The other a pretty basic 'crate on a base' objective, which will be a '2'.

The tank seen here and the above crate were all part of the generous extras that came with my last order off Ramshackle. The 'Ammo dump' to the right has the comically over sized shell and round ammo hopper (behind AC reload) from my recent order off Ramshackle and the turret bin off a Predator. This one with my previously created 'Relic' objective (seen on page 18 or 19 ish) will be the '3's.

The command post that will be the base in the 'bases' mission is the fancy one. The computer console is made from a computer screen bit out of the Stormraven kit and the 'walls' and from the Valkyrie. The front and back are just plasticard and another panel from the Stormraven will soon adorn the front. There is a portable power supply from, of course, the Lascannon in the Heavy Weapon Team box. I cut off one end as it's turning to the wrong angle and added a GS socket in the Console.

To communicate with distant units etc there is a portable satellite dish with a power supply/wireless router to create a 'My-Fi' zone. The cabling is Zinge Industries wire wrapped wire and I used the very end of the Chem cannon off the Hellhound set as a socket onto the router. The dish and box are obviously off the Rhino sprue.

Ta Da

Here the console is seen with the front panel added, I think it's supposed to go behind the pilot. The beam behind the dish is to slightly cover the base of any occupant.

The back of the unit has a Sentinel Heavy Flamer tank added for shiz and giggles and the little pick up hooks (for craning it into position) are spacers from the spaced armour off a FoW Stug kit I had lying around.

I wanted a Servitor to be an interface/operator for the command post and the Stormraven kit has a nice head and torso of one. I used the remainder of the Hellhound gun to form the verical pillar of him and a Ramshackle stanchion hinge thing to be the base for some tracks which I (poorly) made from GS. I cut a group of cables off his head and replaced them on his right arm (cutting away the old bit) to feed into the console al la R2D2.

Here he is 3/4 painted..

And the command post started...

These are done now and I'll get the completed pics uploaded soon, I was pretty pleased with the HQ thing and did a little photo shoot with it too...

More soon.

Really cool looking objectives
One thing that might be worth keeping in mind, is that objectives are numbered (if playing malestrom missions). It might be worth trying to incorporate numbers into the objectives somewhere, just you you and your opponent can see whats what clearly.

Thanks! I basically never play Maelstrom. I think it's too badly written, sure luck can swing both ways but sometimes you'll have to hold 2 Objectives you already have, and your opponent will have to shoot down the flyer you don't have and kill your HQ (generally mine are hiding in a Chimera miles from the action). Too random. I have numbered mine (as you'll see) but for Scouring purposes only.

Hope you like this next bit..

Here are the finished Markers, first the basic ones..

First up the Grave, the helmet has a (poorly done) legend that reads 'Fr1day' which is a reference to my Fav Rogue Trooper story of yesteryear. Also the 1 pointer for the Scouring..

Pretty basic crate..

But it's worth fighting for!

Points..

Critical airdropped supplies..

Points again..

Ammo dump..

Little bit of a history reference..

And a SciFi one..3 is visible on the top is it's worth..the other 3 is my previously made 'Relic' one which features in a possibly upcoming BatRep..

Command Post..

Servitor is checking a well known website for it's officer master..the other green screens have a coat or two of Tamiya Clear Green to make them shiny..if I had some clear Varnish I'd do the other screen too..

WiFi router...

Handy points reminder..
