Awesome DE! I've been on the edge of starting a small detachment of them to go with my Harlies (because starting a new army to have something to ally 1 squad to is perfectly normal, right? ) and these just might push me that way...

No, bad, mustn't start new projects!

Payday is this week, so I'll grab him then. If not Ophiel, then I think Ahriman would work well.

Two more Kabalites down! Two more to go and hopefully the final two will show up Saturday.

As usual, the lighting at my parents' house sucks, so finding a decent spot to take pictures (especially when everyone else is asleep) is hard to do. So, these pics are going to have to do for now.

Knife guy is actually a slight conversion, His left arm was originally the one holding the Shard Cannon's top grip. I trimmed it down and drilled a hole, cut one of the loose knives in half and trimmed down the grip enough to fit into the hand. Inserted both knife bits and voila! Badass reverse grip knife guy!

The last two are just about nearly done. I put the banner on one of them, but I have no clue what to put on it. I was thinking that since I used samurai crests for my craftworld guys, I should do something similar for these ones. I was leaning towards using a Japanese city flag logo, possibly Nagoya's. Not sure yet. Or, I suppose I could try scribbling jagged lines onto it and say it's a rune. We'll see.

You're really turning them out now - and they're freakin' sweet as well. What are you planning to do with the bases?

More awesome, the knife is pretty sweet too.

To be honest, I'm not sure that I'll do anything with their bases. I'm actually totally fine just leaving them grey like that.

Tonight my order from Blackdagger Games arrived. Got my Dreadnought base and I got my two replacement Dark Eldar. So, they're it now. They're all I have left to do and soon my Kabalites will finally be fully painted (after sitting for a couple of years in a box). Downside though, I wanted all of these guys wearing helmets. I used the last of my helmets on these two girls and Blackdagger gave me one with a bare head. Boo. That dude just had to go and be non-conformist.

So, we've got Moai Head/crown of thorns girl

and the "I can't paint freehand worth a damn" girl

And together they are.... standing there!

So, yeah. I suck at freehand. I'll probably paint over that logo with something else eventually. What I'd settled on for an insignia is actually one that some Hordes Skorn models feature. Reason I chose to use it is because I picked up some Skorne models. Can you guess why? Heh, it looks like I'll be proxying some of my HQ and Elites. Skorne's overall styling and much of their fluff actually fit in surprisingly well with the Dark Eldar. I've decided that I'm going to use some Skorne Praetorians (with headswaps) as counts-as Incubi and if I can scrounge up some non-liquid Green Stuff, I'll be converting Archdomina Makeda to be a counts-as Drazhar. The conversions I plan will be simple, really just being headswaps for the Incubi and adding the back trophy racks and probably just sculpting a faceplate for Drazhar, but they should work fairly well and actually be cheaper than buying the actual GW figures.

Crap, I found another Anima Tactics figure that could work well for the Archon. High Arbiter Alastor.

So, opinions? Him, or Ophiel?

Thats kind of a tough call... I wanna say Ophiel but that guy totally has a sword that would be good at representing the various nastiness that an Archon is liable to take...

Something about him though, the way the armor is done the other guy almost looks more dark eldary... although if you want closed helmets maybe go with the sword guy anyway.

Freehand looks fine to me, its not golden demon quality but it makes sense and is relatively clean.

I suppose I could get both and use use as a Dracon. I like the fact that Alastor has the full helm and cape a lot. If I got Ophiel, I feel like I'd need to at least give him a cape. I figure with Ophiel though, I actually can keep his shadow monsters and use them to physically represent a Shadow Field and whatever bladed weapon I choose for him.

I'm not very familiar with the Anima or WMH figures, but they'd work for me as DE. I'm not seeing any problem with your freehand, either - the new figures look typically good.

Thanks. Maybe I'm just not a good judge of my own work.

I asked my dad which of the two Anima guys I should use as my Archon. He at first said Alastor, but then changed his mind and said to get both. So, maybe I will just get both.

Surprisingly enough, I did not work on Dark Eldar tonight. NO, I'll finish them up tomorrow. Instead, I decided to take a little break from them and clear away a couple of other figures from my queue. This time I returned to an old favorite that I haven't worked on in a long while, Menoth. My dad picked up a blister of two Deliverers from Brookhurst for a couple bucks a while back and I decided to get to them tonight.

I actually breezed right through them, surprisingly. Their colors aren't easy to paint, but for once, they gave me no hassle.

I want to say those Deliverers were 99 cents. 99 percent sure on that.

They look good to.

Not as evil as my guy with his monolith, but whatever.

Final two Kabalite Warriors are now done! Hurray! Up next, finishing my Scouts, starting up on some Pig Iron dudes, and working on my Dreadnought. Sadly, it looks like I wont' be winning the two plastic Dreadnoughts I'd bid on. Darn. Oh well.

More of the same awesome, good work. No group shot?

Well, the reason I didn't do a group shot is because I was waiting until I had some better lighting.

Voila!

Also finished up my Space Marine Scout Snipers.

Yeah, I know there's only four. The fifth was actually painted to go along with my Relictors back when I got the set, so now he's packed away with everything else in storage. There were enough parts to at least make the entire upper body of the missile launcher guy though. If I can score some spare Scout legs for him, I'll add him. Until then, though, this is the whole team.

I looked at that March painting challenge, and I may enter it with a Dreadnought. I think I can entire with just the one, right?

Since I set up the Deadzone terrain, I figure I should use it.

Cool stuff!

I'd love to see your Dread in the challenge, just be sure to chuck an unpainted pic over in that thread and you're good to enter! We have quite a few Dreads in there already, should be a thoroughly awesome Dread-off if everyone gets them done!

Speaking of group pics, I need to take some of the 10man Valkir tactical team I built.

Great work. I'm loving the Dark Eldar and also the military-themed scouts. Did you see my camouflage ones?

I did see them. They look really good. Those old metals seem to have a lot more personality to them than the plastic ones. I'm also kind of surprised that GW actually sculpted one of them actually wearing the respirator. I don't think I've ever seen that one a non-biker Scout.

I wanted to post up a quick update on my Dreadnought. I've got the base colors all finished now. Next step is the dip.

Here's a WIP shot from last night. The left arm wasn't actually painted up yet, just had some splotches thrown on it.

And here's from this morning. All base coats are done, some decals applied, base started. Next step, finish the base and then dip.

Where are you painting? There's so many bottles of paint there. I thought you packed everything up as it was.

Unless those are our dad's paints while you're crashing there...

I have that Dark Eldar codex by the way, if you want me to bring it Saturday.

That's actually my table and paints. I didn't put them into storage so I'd be able to actually use them.

I need to pick up some standard Marine Scouts at some point to join the rest of my Marines.

Based on the Dreadnought, it seems a Old WWII vibe is what your Marines are using.

Agreed. It looks great. I'd love to see something like a Warlord Games 28mm Jeep painted up with a Marine driver and gunner and a Plasma Cannon or Heavy Bolter on the weapon mount as an Attack Bike!

I was going for more of a WWII vibe on them. The attack bike idead is pretty good. What size base would it go on though?

Think you might struggle to get a marine or two in a warlord games 28mm jeep

Given a GW minis weird proportions you'd probably need to look at a 1/35 jeep to get them to fit

The tamiya 1/35 Willis jeep is the right width but a bit too long to use as an attack bike. (I used one for a IG jeep a while ago)

If I were to use Scouts though, I might be able to use it as a Landspeeder Storm.

Figured I'd post an update on my Dreadnought, this time with decent lighting. I've applied decals and weathered them. Probably some time this weekend I'll get it dipped.

And here's my current assortment of finished military styled Space Marines. My Master of Relics would join them, but he's stashed away in Storage.
