Something that occurred to me the other day that it would be easier to implement something like rolling to hit as normal (BS-7), and then rolling direction for any misses with the distance being the die result (x1 for stationary, x2 for moving). Should be interesting to see what actually gets printed.

Except against large units you could scatter several inches and still tag models as long as you place the blast template right. Combined with partials rule being removed, it isn't all bad for the intended purpose of most blast weapons (killing hordes), probably even more accurate.

Well to mash the math out (For marines):

BS 4
33% chance to hit off the top
If scatter, than 2d6. Template is 1.5 inches wide which means the largest dice roll allowed for a hit would be 5-6ish (Depending on placement)
Chances to roll under a 6 on 2d6 = 41.67%

99 shots, 33 hit auto (no scatter)
Of the 66 left, 27 will hit (Using 41% as above)
So 60 hits out of 90

So 66% of the time your blast will hit. Just like now (Math subject to review, I did it quick). Unless they change the pts...meh = |

The bonus for BS3 is more significant, I suspect. Also, don't forget that the scatter process is only half the blast marker buff. Auto-hit on partials is the other half.

I believe I figured that in by taking the 1.5 template into account (IE with BS 4 you may scatter 5 inches and still get a hit). I even went up to 6 for clever placement (As 6 - BS 4 = 2 which would technically be a miss by template size)

Orks will hit roughly 51% of the time.

There is an attitude that not having an insanely optimized, one shot, six stage, omnidirectional, inevitable, mousetrap of an assassin list army somehow means that you have foolishly wasted your life building 500 points of pure, 24 karat, hand rolled, fine, cuban fail. That attitude has been shown, under laboratory conditions, to cause cancer of the fun gland.

On the subject of "true line of sight"

...I wonder what this will do for the players that enjoy the simplicity of using simply a peice of green felt on their tables to represent a woods terrain peice.

In no uncertain terms some people on this forum and others will tell them to buy the overpriced and fugly GW trees and to suck it up. The jacknapes who suggests that will then get offended when people complain about his attitude, and the dakka feeding cycle will continue.

I was discussing this with a friend. I'd wager it will end up working that forests will no longer block LOS thru them, but they'll still grant cover.

It's jackanapes, you ninehammer!

You can help break the cycle, though. You can post positive, worthwhile content! Fight the urge to snark and add to Dakka!

As far as the "true Line of Sight" thing goes, I'm all for it. I never liked the "pool of green felt" being a forest and really really enjoy the aesthetics of WYSIWYG terrain, so this is a big positive in my book.

It's ninnyhammer, you peevish officer!

Real terrain is cool, especially for skirmish games. 40K falls down by not knowing if it is a skirmish or a battle. (Actually it's a skirmish pretending to be a battle game to make you buy more figures.)

However no real wargamers use proper wysiwyg terrain because it is too much of a PITA to move all the trees around when you put a unit into a wood.

Alright, you got me there. I guess that was a bit grandstandish, but it's in reaction to your being a jerk, not just to get attention in the first place. I'm not looking for attention. I am looking for an opportunity to demonstrate that the credibility to be snarky on this board should come from being a decent tactician in the first place. I'm willing to prove that you aren't a decent tactician, just a jerk (otherwise you would both have something useful to contribute, and have something better to do than be a jerk).

Seriously. This is a call-out and a challenge. Show up at the Vegas GT, and let's arrange to fight first round. This isn't internet-rambo, it's a challenge to meet IRL and game. And IRL, I promise to be less snarky, more fun. I'll still win, though.

E-mail me closer to Vegas' date. Dunno where you get the idea that I'm a terrible tactician and have no credibility, since you dont even know who you're talking to, but whatever.

The Blast template rumor is absurd. Blast templates would never miss at 1D6 -BS. The average rolled is 3.5. Even on 2D6 the average roll is 7, it would only scatter 4 inches for the lowly guardsmen or Russ. It just doesn't make any sense to have someone roll a number and have it mean little if anything by constantly bringing it down to zero or close to it. I wish I had a stronger vocabulary so I could explain why this Blast rumor makes my brain meats recoil in horror.

As far as Nidzilla being nerfed due to inability to kill vehicles... I don't see it. The average vehicle is not nearly as survivable. Skimmers lose only glances if moved and only glances in HtH, the cover save doesn't make up for that. Fast vehicles can only move 18 so they can't run away as well. You are hitting the back deck and on no worse than a 4+. Only Land Raiders, Monoliths and tanks sitting in cover are happy about the new rules. Everyone else got at least a little nerfed. If you find you still can't deal with vehicles then switch out the Devourers for Scything Talons and Run your critters at them every turn.

As for Psychic stuff Perils is just too damn fluffy not to be super dangerous to your models. Now I know you paid for the right to just field a Psyker(who usually costs too many points for such a wimpy model) and Psychic powers are never so strong or abundant that they could be considered over powered. Also almost every race has anti-psyker wargear with a global effect. Regardless the Warp is a devious place and so your stupid Psyker is going to have to eat it every once and awhile so we don't forget. As far as I am concerned this same rant applies to Magic in Fantasy.

I for one cannot wait for the "designer's" notes for 5th edition, where they tell us how absolutely awesome it is and how pants the last one was, sorta. Even though they wrote it ...

Oh, and apparently they'll let deadshane1 write it too...

latest rumors have it at D6 if you nont move; 2D6 if you do with templates.

And auto wound with a invun save thats rerolled if passed makes it *far* more likely to be wounded

Isn't it a nerf to Perils? Befor it was a str 6 hit which allowed no saves. That's an Instant Death for alot of psykers out there. Now it's just a wound, and allows invulnerable saves, even if you have to make it twice that's still better than no save.

As far as the blast weapons, if your fighting against large units, you stand a much better chance of actually taking out something with correct template placement in the middle of a unit. When you missed previously, it was a wasted shot and nothing died. People now stand a chance to drift into other models than the one they selected.

I also fail to see how moving matters other than for vehicle mounted blast weapons. What are the assault blast weapons or the heavy weapons that can fire while moving other than for vehicles? Given this, moving vs non-moving is a huge issue if it adds an extra D6.

These rumors are getting to be a mess, so I think waiting and seeing is the best move.

The only non-heavy blast weapon I can think of is a Grenade Launcher firing frag.
