IT's AMAZIN'

Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law is both. For a wounded man shall say to his assailant, "If I Die, You are forgiven. If I Live, I will kill you." Such is the Rule of Honor.

I find if I have a squad of very detailed confusing minis I go one at a time. Never really did much batch painting.

95% of teens would go into a panic attack if the jonas brothers were about to jump off the empire state building copy and paste this if you are the 5% who would pull up a lawn chair grab some popcorn and yell JUMP BITCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I finished up the Kasrkin individually and it worked well. Batch painting is the only way I could get through so much infantry, though from time to time I would stop and paint a single guy. (Mostly the first batch of Valhallans were done one at a time.)

Ok, so today I finished the Carapace Veteran Squad Alpha! Pics are below. Unfortunately it was very dark and rainy today, so I had to take pics indoors, which means some are a tad blurry, as it's rather dark.

Here's the WIP shot of where I left them Yesterday:

And here's the finished squad:

And some individuals:

The head and power fist are from the Cadian command box. A power fist may not be an exactly economical use of points, but the bit looked so cool I had to use it, and I figure this is the best option for that - in a triple melta unit.

I took a break from white and did base colors on my cannoness:

And this project distracted me from painting for a couple of nights last month. I made custom trays for the sweet, sweet minis in my space hulk game. I can't wait to paint these guys, but since it's technically a board game, i don't have to do that in this mission.

Lesson of the day: Don't handle miniatures before first swig of coffee.

Painting progress for this morning was somewhat slowed by the act of me dropping my work-tray with all my paints and minis on it about 5 seconds after picking it up. Luckily, Kasrkin are one-piece models, and none of the paint pots came open. Had I spilled paint on the carpet, this project log would most likely have come to a screeching halt as my wife would have killed me.

As it was, all I had to do was glue the cannoness back together, glue some troopers back on their bases, and I was good to go.

I managed to paint the ruins on the squad, and got the one guy who was only basecoated up to the same level as the rest of the unit with his first greys and blues.

More tomorrow....

Thanks guys!

More wips of the Kasrikin: yay! They're all white!

I also solved my problem with base size for Marbo. I've magnetized his base so that it will clip right onto a large base that will have scenic elements and a victim or two.

*edited cuz I'm a doofus and posted the same pic twice*

Those Kasrkin look fantastic!!!! I love the really smooth whites you've got going on. Are these going to get the snow effect as well? Its just they look a bit out of place next to the regular troopers.

Thanks! There is a near-complete army shot below. Once I finish Marbo, I'll lay them all out and borrow my work camera to take the money shots. Oh yeah. Blood on the snow, blood on the blades. It's a hard life in the Dnothian Scavenger Legion!

tekk_45 wrote:These minis are looking great! I really enjoy checking out what you've been getting accomplished.

Thanks Tekk! It's been great having encouragement to get this much done.

Ok, so today I finished painting and basing the last carapace veteran squad, so that means that now the only miniature left to paint in this army is Guardsman Marbo!

Here are the Kasrkin vets:

And here is the army on my shelf, minus the demolishers and marbo:

And speaking of Guardsman Marbo, here is the solution I worked out for his base, he's magnetized on a display base, which also has two magnets set into it for a fallen victim (and victim's head).

And that's it for now. If I get a chance I'll try to paint Marbo this weekend so I can start on another project next week. (Can't decide between my Sisters of battle, Tau, or Chaos. )

Ah, and one more pic:

Happy Halloween everyone!

That's- it's fantastic. Thanks for the peek at the whole army. I love the lone "jet-eye" and the Tau adviser is priceless. They stand out very well, just as they fit into the army.

What's the fishbowl/energy field in the back left, up on the platform?

I can't wait to see Marbo finished.

That was an objective I built for our last Apocalypse game, which had the forces of the Imperium trying to recapture a relic which was protected by a stasis field.

Marbo IS done, but I seem to have misplaced my camera cable. :(

It's from the Marauder Horsemen box. That box is bits GOODNESS I tell you.

*edit* Just had to say it's 10 o'clock and I just finished painting 12 chaos warriors. Nice way to spend a day home from work sick!

Pics tomorrow.

Ok, haven't been able to post pics in a while, so there's alot comin'.

First off, the last mini from my Guard army, Marbo!

Sans magnetic victim and detailing on scenic base. I need to buy bits for the victims, so that will be shelved for a while.

And quick & dirty Chaos warriors. Pained the whole squad in one day while I was home from work one day this week!

And now for something completely different, Tau battlesuits.

My commander conversion, which I had begun painting earlier this year. Some grey on it from spraying his base with primer.

And the other two suits which I primered yesterday:

These were some of my first major conversions, and as such, they are a bit sloppy. The idea was great, but the execution a little primitive. All of the crisis suits have been given extend arms, torsos, and legs, with the lower legs and feet being custom castings. I also added a visor to the head and a collar of armor around the neck joint.

Anyhow, this morning I got a little more painting done - everyone is green!

Thanks! And will I finish everything? Probably not, allthough many things should go faster now, as a lot of what is left is models that have one or 2 colors painted already. The sisters for instance, all have 2-3 colors on them, the kroot the same.

Realistically, I imagine I will get just about everything except the Lizardmen and Death Korp done. We shall see.

I do like your tau. I used to be all about the Tau before I got back into the guard when I found a whole bunch of Steel Legion guys cheap about 2-3 years back. Now that army is done ( in it's initial phase at least - I still dream of valkyries and basilisk squadrons) I am getting excited about Tau again. Especially if they get a new 'dex next year or the year after.

So today's update is SANS PICTURES. This has to do with me taking my camera with me in my Backpack and getting SOAKED on my bicycle. Even though it was in the pack, it got wet, and I forgot to take it out all day. Whether or not it works again remains to be sen after I've recharged it. So the bad news is, no pics for a while. (Although I am probably getting my B-day present from my wife early, and I'm pretty sure it's a much nicer camera. )

The good news is this weekend I made progress on the battle sisters squad, painting all the insignia, piping, and guns grey and giving them some badab magic wash, got a layer of highlights on the triad of battle suits, finished repainting 10 kroot (just need basing now) and repainted the Culexus assassin with a more detailed paint job.

I also decided that I am getting rid of 3 of the Piranas that I have assembled and base coated. They are not quite up to my current standards of building, so I am going to try to swap them for an unbuilt Devilfish or Hammerhead.

So, 18 days left, let's see what I can knock out!

Thanks, I had a fun time on the skull, trying to make it look like there were blood vessels and exposed tissue on the head. I don't know who sculpted that model, but it's one of my all-time favorite 40k models. You're right about the Kroot's rifle, of course, but I'm calling those guys done! That birdman must just take especially good care of his steel.

Ok, tonight I spent waaaaay too long on one model, given how much I have left to do, but I am really pleased with the results. I finished my canonness, giving her a jump back, some transfers in her book, and whippin' up a scenic base. Pics, then off to grab a few hours sleep (and put away my paints so I don't wake up murdered by my wife in the morning.)

Night all.

(noticed that some of the fleur de lys were sloppy in these pics and fixed it, as well as painting in the hole underneat the pylon)

Okay, those Kroot are bangin'. Really love the high contrast on the flesh, and the spines/dreads look great.

Also, the detail on that assassin is lovely.

On the downside, you have a Culexus. Damnation. Looks like Eldrad will be staying in the box more often...

Thanks! Yeah, I remember waaaay back when I first started painting trying to hand-paint a decent looking page in a wizard's book. That was before I realized that waterslide transfers could be used on things other than ships and planes1

Thanks! I think they have a lot of potential for creative painting. I was going for sort of a tropical bird look.

Thanks, dude. I had a lot of fun painting that Assassin! I only wish I had 5 for that apox formation....

Ok, so lately I've been distracted from the Tau by my Sisters. I finish painting a squad of a Veteran Sister and 4 storm bolter chicks, and a 10 woman squad. Pics below:

And the 5 lady squad:

Now it's back to the Tau. I have another unit of 10 kroot that have base colors on them that need finishing up.
