It's just not as fun as playing against an army that actually moves and does things beyond "shoot a lot".

I also don't like playing against Imperial Guard. Win or lose, its just boring.

I haven't played many armies mostly Necrons, and Chaos but when I got back into 40k right after the tau codex released I played against an Iyandan(sp) spent spam list so my vote definitely has to goto Eldar... The only thing I hate more is playing AS Tau... you think it's boring playing against them? Try playing them, my opponent purposely takes his time on his turns as punishment lol

Oddly enough, one of the games I've played got a comment "This is the most boring game I've ever watched" It was kill teams, but it was tau vs 'nids. Most of the game all we did was roll cover saves at each other until somebody failed.

I haven't had a full on normal game by myself against tau yet, but it should be interesting.

(I'm still new to the game).
If I had known DE were such a hard counter to 'nids I might have started out with something else. The fact that we eventually plan to get a table at home so we can play might be an issue.
It will probably get me (or my bf) collecting a new army faster than anything else, after a while. Having 'nids and being unable to deal with his nighshields, running around all over the place with raiders/ravers and an archon deathstar will....well, time will tell.

At any rate, somebody will probably break into a new army either because it looks cool, somebody got bored with the DE/'nid war, or somebody picked up a fantasy thing for an event and then decided to run with it.. who knows.

Tau and Eldar, without a shadow of doubt. Even running a HH army against them. Seerstar with that re-rollable 2++? Statistically, a full unit of 20 tacticals within rapid fire range, buffed by a Div libby giving re-rolls and a Master of Signal making them BS 5, using their rule to fire Boltguns twice (a grant total of 80 bolt rounds that are twin linked at BS 5), does one wound to a Seerstar. One. Out of 80 bolt rounds. Something 'aint right

As for Tau, too many answers to threats. I could take their supportive fire rule, I could take a great deal of their extra nonsense. What I can't take is all of it together. There's just too much of it. It really is getting to the point of 'Oh, you get first turn. Well, good game, I'll just remove my entire army shall I?'

You start the game, and by the end of turn 1 you're thinking "why am I even here?"

My army looks like molasses while the Eldar bikes are like flies buzzing everywhere. And skilled riders is a joke, we're going to fly through these trees into a building at 150 MPH and land in a swamp. No difficult terrain test. Then assault a unit, hit and run on a roll of 1-5, and turbo boost to the opposite side of the board.

"Ah, I finally got a wound on your shining spears" "Yea but I have a 3+ re-rollable save."

"I hit your unit with a leman russ blast, no armor saves for you!" "Oh that unit has a 2+ cover save for some reason."

Their tanks have cover saves and jink saves for some reason. And their psykers just autokill my warlord.

I don't mind losing games, but it's nice to feel like I have a fighting chance.

We have a winner! "Why am I here?" is my go-to quote for describing playing against Eldar.

Bring a GK Inquisitor & a vindicare. Try to get the divination spell that ignores cover saves. Then turbo penetrate his serpent with a 4D6+4 AP1 shot. Watch the player cry some. I used a vindicare Thursday night. Top of turn one, the vindicare destoyed the wraithknight invul shield.
Then inquisitor unit plasma cannoned his serpent for first blood. Thanks jokero for 12 more inches. Yes I thanked my monkey for more length.

As an ork player I have learned to fear Eldar, especially a jet bike list. They just go whizzing all over the place while my poor ladz dont know whats happening. The closest i ever got to winning was when i had to use an entire unit of 30 boys just to tie up the seer council in combat for long enough for my nob bikerz to do a bit of damage, but i still got tabled by the end.

Necrons for me too. Been playing BA since I started and don't mind losing but necrons just counter everything. Lightning bolts if you deep strike, lightning bolts if you assault, mind shackle scarabs to take out your best fighter. Units just get right back up. So annoying. I can usually even beat my local necron player, but I hate the codex.

For the record I am one of those people who thinks that if your army is better than mine than I should lose and I enjoy losing to better tacticians. So as far as hating an army goes, it is Dark Eldar for me all the way.

I would loved to slaughtered by the most evil force in the galaxy. I mean what's scarier than an army of guys in Gimp Suits wielding knives and trying to rape, pillage, and enslave everything they can get their hands on. Every time the perverts come out to fight they get creamed by my Orks. Maybe I only fight bad Dark Eldar players, but I for one would love to see the Evil of Evils triumph every now and again.

Army I hate the most? hands down Nids.
Now hear me out! I'm not whining about skyblight or venomthrope cover saves, the reason i hate playing against nids is simple. Back in 3rd when wee little Ironjack started his wargaming career, Nids was the first army my crons at the time faced. It was the store owner's brother and the guy went full tourny list on me, no mercy whatsoever, I was crushed and not even educated on what i did wrong or could have done better.
That is all there is to it, wounded pride. It leads me to squash those filthy xenos bugs whenever i see them now XD

If someone doesn't know that bringing 3 riptides is cheese, then they're the problem. Yes, its legal and yes it's GW's fault, but that doesn't cancel out the player's responsibility to not be TFG. Now, if their local Meta is very competitive and they know they can find opponents that can take on such a list, power to them. But if they go against a chaos army that can't really compete with their triptides, then something needs to be worked out ahead of time. Is that how it should be? Absolutely not, but that's what we have to deal with.

Actually i do have to mention Orks as a second runner up to Dark Eldar. Just thought about that. Spending most of 4th and 5th edition getting ground into the dirt by the invincible herd of Nob bikers who were not only more maneuverable and faster than my Tau (who were supposed to be a hit and run army and I don't care what people say) but also could kill us easily in assault, and even out shoot us when shooting was supposed to be the one thing we were actually good at.

Suffice it to say that whenever I face orks and I see bikes on the table I dedicate my #1 priority to raining hellfire down upon that unit until not a single ork remains. I don't even care if it costs me the game to do it. Any game with a dead unit of nob bikers at the end is a moral victory from my perspective.

Gunlines. I.E. armies that just sit in their own backfield and unload everything they have on me.

I dislike playing against them because it feels like all we do in the opponent's turn is roll dice to see how many of my models are removed. When there are units moving around, it at least preserves the illusion that a miniatures wargame is being played instead of feeling like a pure dice game.

Tau. At the very least Eldar have a couple things that, while not bring weaknesses, are at least things you can do. Back when I started in 5th tau seemed a neat concept-an army that is the best at shooting but so infinitely garbage in melee that to create a balanced list you had to bring points inefficient, mediocre melee troops to cover the hole.

Now, in the edition of 'you can never get to melee ever' and with the addition of the absurd riptide, they're just the best at shooting and you can't do diddlycrap about it.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

Eldar. And Space Marines. Mainly because they are specialist armies that have options for everything, whereas I do not. So, they can deal with everything of mine easily, whereas I'm stuck shooting pretty much the same guns at them and hoping they fail 3+ saves.

This. A huge problem with this game, IMO, is that things like Seerstar with a 2+ rerollable cover save, is supposed to be countered by certain rules in the game (CC, Ignores Cover). But, what GW doesn't understand, is that they refuse to give every codex those options. So, you have Eldar, Tau, Space Marines, ext that have Ignores Cover, and all of these special rules. Then you have every other book....

I don't mind a 2+ rerollable cover save per se, just the fact that most people cannot, I repeat, CANNOT deal with it.

Imperial knights. They look awesome, I like the concept and I would gladly buy an army of my own... BUT they render 2/3 of the opponents army useless and that kind of ruins it for both players.

I don't want to shoe-horn people into building a list they don't like just to stand a chance against me so I can play an army I'd like to play.

To be honest, unless it's Serpent spam, I typically enjoy playing against Gunline armies, especially as Tyranids. (Lolwut?) Considering that they almost never move, Tau turns take freaking forever! Which is my primary gripe with Tau, as IG I find them a challenge to play against, but I don't find them OP. Just the turns...that...take...for...ev...er...

Marines just because they ignore every rule in the game. They're not real hard to beat, but every game is a war of attrition since I can't count on any of the core game mechanics to hurt or slow them down (e.g. no reserve roll deep strike on turn 1, ignore difficult/dangerous terrain most of the time, re-roll everything, morale isn't a factor, etc.)

I posted on this thread way back when, but Eldar are still the worst to play against.
