The online discounters are all the same and all suffer from the same issues - I have ordered from all the major players over the years and suffered problems and delays with all of them. I'm currently waiting on a single TIE Defender from Element Games that was ordered back at the beginning of December.

Discounters are at the mercy of their suppliers. The problem is exacerbated in Wayland's case as they are the largest, have the largest turnover of stock and the largest range. They are a victim of their own success, to re-use a hackneyed cliché. That being said the website is not good - the stock system thing is misleading at best. For instance, in the same TIE Defender example given above, Wayland claim to have 54 in stock. Given that Element Games have been unable to get me one for 2 months now, I find it hard to believe Wayland are sitting on a pile of them.

Call me when you're making a reasonable comparison; X-Wing is notorious for being virtually impossible to get hold of in the EU, so using that as an example is hardly fair. Wayland have repeatedly failed to obtain stuff from suppliers even when we're talking about readily available product like GW.

It was listed as In Stock when I placed the order with Element so in that regard they are no better than Wayland, not that I believe for one second that Wayland have 54 of them. And for the record, I have never had any of my X-Wing orders delayed before so I must have been lucky in that regard. The point is, all the online discounters have their issues and supply problems which is why when these threads crop up you get people saying they have had a problem with one seller and others saying they have never had a problem with the same. It's luck of the draw a lot of the time.

In all fairness, sticking with Ebay usually guarantees you get your item in short order. Just probably not at the best price.

Having worked in despatch for a mail order company (car parts, not miniatures, mind) I can tell you there's rarely a good reason for orders not to be picked, packed, and despatched on the same day. And if something on your order isn't in stock (even if the web store says it is) a salesman should be able to email you that day to tell you.

I don't really know what's going wrong at Wayland. Bad management presumably. However I refuse to order there anymore, and my friends agree.

And I've seen posters here(not the same ones over and over again either) warning people off Wayland and recommending Dark Sphere and Element Games for a good long while now. Eventually even anecdotal evidence grows to sufficient quantities that it cannot be ignored, and I think it's disingenuous to suggest in this case that they're all as bad as each other when the substantial majority of issues are being reported as coming from one company.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

Are they cheaper than the alternatives for GW stuff? Otherwise I can't see why anyone would bother with ordering and giving "a month or more" as a reasonable timeframe for delivery.

Depends where you live. For all EU outside of the UK, I would say they are. Within the UK, Darksphere has the same or better prices. (Reason: Wayland offers free worldwide shipping over 40 GBP).
I guess the US have their own budget shops.

Are UK retailers able to sell GW to Mainland Europe? If so, why would you not use one of the other places that are frequently mentioned in these threads? The two I use for tons of stuff can't ship GW to me, but I get my Perry/Warlord/Vallejo/etc stuff within 5-10 days usually. They both offer free worldwide shipping above 30-40 quid as well.

I won't say they're another Maelstrom, but they are incompetent at worst, useless at best. The use of the same colour typeface for both 'in stock' and 'available' IS misleading, they've been told about it on several occasions but refuse to change it - why? because it gets more sales. Whether it's buyer beware or not is moot point - they're using a system that can be easily confused.

Maelstrom were actually great until they started circling the drain at the very end.

Which shops are you talking about? I would be happy to find an alternative! Trolltrader does not sell GW, DarkSphere has ludicrous shipping costs, Element Games are too expensive (i.e. offer the same price as German shops - in which case I am inclined to use them instead). EDIT: Also, Total Wargamer has a very poor reputation, much worse than Wayland Games (check out some threads here on DakkaDakka), and I have made very bad experiences with Triple Helix Games myself.

On a separate note, you've got to love the efforts from Wayland and other sites to make their own advertising for GW products, because GW won't let any independents use either miniature pictures or official artwork. I can't be bothered even being sarcastic about that policy any more just because it is so fething incomprehensible, but the front page currently looks like..

If a casual browser was given the choice of these three, and no real knowledge of any of them other than everyone having heard of Star Wars, which one are they most likely to click on? Hint, it's not the last one.

And people wonder why GW's profits are diminishing in a growing market.

Dark Severance wrote:I have been looking at getting a Mirco Art Studio District 5 Playmat. At the time it was out of stock everywhere including MAS website. Someone said they ordered it from Wayland. I saw the green, assumed Available meant that it 'really was available'. I made the order and 2 months later received an email that it was delayed because they couldn't get it from the manufacturer. That was when I saw Available meant 'they could order it'. I knew MAS was doing a reprint, so no worries I decided to wait since they had the best prices. Since then MAS has got them back in stock, it has been another 2 months but it still hasn't shipped. I messaged earlier and was told that it has just arrived and is shipping (yet my order doesn't reflect that online). So I'm still waiting. That same playmat still shows "Available" to this day, despite knowing they've had issues with it.

I seem to remember that I had to wait more than a month for my one of those. But, like you say they are out of stock everywhere (or seemed to be when I ordered mine last autumn). Actually, think I more or less had forgotten about it and waiting for it to arrive.

I usually order though element game as i have always found them to have decent prices and fast delivery, but on the 8 of Jan me and my brother made a big order to Wayland Games...
on the 19 of Jan i got an email informing me they did not have some of my order in stock and they wouldn't receive it within the 3-9 days. After reading this thread im wondering if i should just cancel the order.
