Beautiful Escher, mymearan!

Which 6 of the set are you missing? I have them all now except for the leader with the long coat, which goes for a steep price in eBay!

Is great to see how far your painting progressed from the first girl you did to this batch of 5. I am also planning to return to my Escher soon and the big difference will be starting from a white undercoat like you did here.

Can't wait to see more! :-)

Bye bye Dakkadakka, happy hobbying! I really enjoyed my time on here. Opinions were always my own :-)

Thanks guys, really means a lot!

Bottle: Yeah I like the white undercoat to get those really bright, 80s colors :-) I'm missing these ones myself:

Oh, most of the expensive ones! Just be patient. I managed to get most of those for under £5 per figure. It's just about waiting for the right auction to come along and not falling victim to those ridiculous £15+ prices that clog up the Escher section on eBay and never sell.

Another tip is to sometimes search "esher". Those misspellings can lead to auctions with few bids on them :-)

Yeah the ones I have now I've bought locally for some great prices (eq of £1.5-£2 per figure), and I'm not looking to spend huge amounts of money on the remaining models.

Those Escher look awesome. The hair looks great and the khaki and beige gun furniture works really well. I'm going to have to drag mine out of their case now and take another look at them after seeing your work here.

Very nice Escher models. I like how the hair complements other parts of the figures, the little details really make it.

@Az: thanks, means a lot to hear that! Yeah I'm pretty pleased with the color choice for the guns, with all the colors going on a muted neutral warm color looks great I think. Glad you've found your way here, as you know I'm a huge fan of your work, looking forward to seeing you take a crack at the Escher!

@evildrcheese: thanks a lot! Yeah they took quite a while to paint because there are so many small details like hair bands, ammo shells, belts, etc.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Made a test model for my Stormcast. Tried doing true metallic metals (basically using NMM techniques with metal paint) and I like how the shield came out. I'm not in love with the color scheme though and will probably do another one. Also not happy with the technical aspects of the painting. I just don't seem to be able to get those clean, straight lines.

I've recently bought several of the Age of Sigmar scenery kits, and I have to say they're really nice. Yes, they're China plastic and not regular Nottingham plastic, but when they come together they look real good. I've managed to paint two of them, and I also have the Dragonfate Dais in the queue. I painted the Occulum (the one with the big sphere thing) first, and then promptly forgot how I painted it by the time I painted the Ophidian Archway... resulting in a lot of drybrushing before I had a look I was reasonably happy with. I still think the Occulum looks better, even though I'm sure the process I used on it was way faster.

Oh, and Liberator Gold is an awesome paint.

That's enough talking, on with the pictures (and this time I resized them before uploading, so they're razor sharp instead of blurry for your viewing pleasure):

Oh, and a small teaser to come... I've an Oldhammer purchase coming sometime this week... stay tuned!

very very nice work there Myr. The stark constrast b/t the bright shiny gold and the really dark stonework comes out beautifully. Top stuff

Yeah, those are looking fantastic! What are you basic steps for the stone?

Thanks a lot guys!

Bottle, that's really the problem... I don't know! I did the Occulum, and I'm pretty sure it was only 3-4 steps to do the stone, with a final drybrushing of Fenrisian Grey on the bare bricks to make them stand out. Other than that, it's a base coat of black, then overbrush Mechanicus Standard Grey, and I'm sure Screaming Skull is involved, as is Nuln Oil and Agrax Earthshade, maybe Ushabti Bone as well... You can see why I'm frustrated. when I tried to replicate the scheme on the Archway, it went something like

Black undercoat > Mechanicus grey overbrush > Nuln oil wash > screaming skull drybrush > oh gak this is way too white and rough I need to fix it > Mechanicus grey overbrush again > Nuln oil wash > screaming skull drybrush, much lighter this time > Agrax Earthshade was > screaming skull drybrush > damn it still too grey > random splotches of Reikland Flesh shade > random.p, spot drybrush of Fenrisian Grey > random, spot drybrush of Skrag Brown > phew finally.

I'm going to share a WIP with you guys because I need some advice.

I've been struggling to come up with a color scheme for my Stormcast, this is my third attempt and I finally think I'm happy with it. Obviously this guy isn't close to done, the only highlighting I've done is on the body as you can see, and the shoulderpads don't have the blue shading yet. The issue, however, is the red. Should I keep it? I've gotten a comment saying it looks out of place, and I may actually agree. I put it there to have a warm contrast to the rest of the colors, which are all cold, but maybe it doesn't work and I should just go cold all the way. The base will be green grass so maybe that will provide enough contrast on its own? If I change the red, I'm thinking Sotek Green since it's such a nice turqoise. Maybe I should use that same color on the shield, or should I keep that black? I will probably paint the little lighting bolts on the shield white at least, to balance out the composition. Unsure what to do with the head... What do you guys think? Any other feedback on the color scheme?

Persoally I think the red is fine as a point colour. However, if you were to change it....I would go with a darkish green/blue. Stegadon green for instance as the base colour

I kind of like the red as well. Black Paint schemes often look best if there's a pretty bright color in there somewhere so they will "pop" at arms length. Amazing work on your terrain btw. Reminds me of the Elder Scroll's games.

Alright, Stormcast test model DONE! I'm pretty happy with it, I think this will be my color scheme. I'm glad I did the glowy eyes, it really needed that contrast to make the face pop. Still open to any ideas you guys might have though, so C&C is VERY welcome! The only thing I'm not really happy with are the decorations on his shoulder pad.

Okay... so I thought the Stormcast guy was a bit bland, and I changed some stuff. Sorry for not posting anything more interesting, but I really want to get started on the rest of the Stormcast army and I'm having a hell of a time nailing down a scheme!

This guy looks great. I think adding the gold trim really made a positive difference compared to the earlier pics with black trim and detail. I also really like the smooth transition from blue to white on his cloth parts.

Thanks. I agree that the gold trim made it better, but I'm still sort of iffy on painting my whole army like this. There's something I don't like about it. For now I think I'll take a little break from the Stormcast and build some actual Space Marines, since I got a huge shipment (pics upcoming)...

A couple of months ago I made a pretty substantial bargain and got a huge Oldhammer Chaos army for cheap. Chaos Dwarfs, Chaos Thugs, Minotaurs, Ogres, Beastmen, Chaos Warriors, Chaos Knights and Chaos Champions all in a nice pile! I immediately dumped the whole thing in simple green and let it be for 5 weeks. Now I've finally scrubbed them all clean (or as clean as I can make them) and here are the results, including some slightly more modern Beastmen, Chaos Chariots and a Chaos Lord I had bought earlier.

All of them will be rebased to round bases for use in Age of Sigmar, and if I try KoW in the future I can easily put them on movement trays. Also I just like round bases better :-)

Some more news on the Stormcast front: there won't be any Stormcast. I looked at my list of unfinished models and realized I don't want yet another army unpainted in the cupboard. I've already got Eldar and Space Marines for 40k, nice collections of Necromunda and Deadzone, and a big order of Dropfleet Commander coming in later this year. Having two armies for AoS on top of all this (Chaos and Stormcast) seemed pretty unnecessary, and I wasn't about to get rid of my Oldhammer bargain. So the Stormcast are getting sold, sadly, because I quite like the models.

I've also got tons of terrain projects going on, and I really want to get back to converting more Inq28 stuff... I really feel like my lack of focus has slowed my hobbying to a crawl recently. I just can't decide on one thing to do and then finish it, instead I flit from project to project, doing half this and half that. It's quite annoying. I guess my big goal for 2016 will be to try to gain that focus that I'm sorely lacking. Pick something, anything, to do, and finish it completely. It's way harder than it seems, especially when you're a super slow painter like me!

In the process of starting up the last four Escher, I also finally finished the last of my starting six.

I'm pretty happy with how she came out. This was the first time I tried doing the power sword thing, and it was an ordeal! I finished it once, thought it looked ok, and promptly dropped her on the floor and chipped the sword. So I repainted it, and while the back of it looked way better than my first attempt, the front was a bit of a disaster... so I repainted that twice. There's a good amount of paint on that sword now for sure! I think it looks quite cool now. I actually got a lot of help from the recent power sword on Warhammer TV for the blending and highlighting.

She's also the only girl to have a non-black thigh-high boot so far, and I'm pleased that she still manages a coherent color scheme and not a mess of different colors. I also love her robe, I really did a good job there if I may say so myself!

The next four are coming along, did basecoating on black bits and leather bits:
