I've never backed. The only one I've regretted is KD: M.

The only ones I'm looking at backing in the future is any Modiphius do for Infinity RPG supplements, and possibly Antenociti if he does another for the Infinity dropships.

I've backed the following:

Modcube. (Ritides cool project.)
Maelstrom's Edge. (By our lovely Dakka hosts.)
X-Terra Space Force. (Titan-Forge...)

I don't regret backing any of them but, the last one worries me a bit.

KD:M had a very extended gestation (KS opened Nov. 2012, delivery likely completes 3 years later Nov. 2015), but at least they're delivering (boats on the water!). I'm pretty psyched to receive the game in a month or two, with the expansions not too many months thereafter.

It occured to me that I have basically sold or shelved basically every CMoN thing I've pledged for:
- SedWars? Shelved, as it's really hard to get a good price...
- Relic Knights? All sold, aside from a couple RKs and the SDE items.
- Zombicide 2? All sold.
- Zombicide 3? Only kept Rue Morgue base game & dice.
- Blood Rage? All Sold.
CMoN's "100 things for $100" just don't draw me as before, and neither Black Plague nor the Others were backed.

I'm still backing SDE, just not as strongly as I might have in previous years.

Have only backed 2. FLGs Phatmat which arrived on time and was great quality and now Dropfleet Commander: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hawkwargames/dropfleet-commander.
No worries with DFC, HWGs is well established and I like DZC. All other KS I've looked at, I'm just not interested in. Friend of mine did Robotech, and it is C+ game at best, plus the miniatures are not that good.

I am quite selective with the projects I back. So far I have only backed games (Wasteland 2, Torment, The Long Dark, That Which Sleeps, The Mandate and Hard West).

Delays and the like are inevitable but all these projects have released, will be released in the next couple of months or are posting regular progress updates. I think the longest delay from that list is The Mandate with an 18 month or so delay but the game should be much better after an additional 18 months of development so meh.

I was going to back the Panzerfauste KS but the Dropfleet commander KS took away my little men money for the month. I have complete faith in Hawk so this should be another successful KS in my eyes.

Oops. I was planning to buy some of your Sedition Wars minis, but forgot to bring it up when we played AoS. Somehow, Sedition Wars just doesn't pop up into my daily thoughts, so I never remember about it. I'd still like to get the mini drones and headcrabs, and maybe some of the four legged strain, if I can just remember. When are you in HB next, er... after Black Friday? (That's my spend day.)

Anyway, I haven't sold most of my KS minis, but I have shelved a lot of them. Mantic products are highly over-represented in both categories. I suspect the Medge Epirians will find a nice place to rest between my Enforcers and Basileans. I haven't even assembled all of my Dreamforge minis. Not sure I need to pledge for any more HIPS 28mm sci fi dudes ever again.

My Bones minis have been very useful for teaching relatives how to paint. Just yesterday, my son painted up some of the Bones 2 minis (painted as in slathered with paint). I can't wait for the CAV stuff to hit retail.

Oh man, I forgot about Robotech. I gave away some of those minis as a random act of cruelty. The Zentraedi minis turned out pretty well, but the RDF minis are more annoying to assemble than enjoyable and the end result often isn't worth it, for me. But the bits are useful! Sadly, I mostly pledged at the Battlecry level (or whatever the damn sweet spot was called) for the bonus minis that should have arrived in Wave 2...

Backed the following games:
Boss Monster - played a couple times, sold for a huge profit
Warmachine: Tactics - never played
You Need These Dice - tossed in the closet, as the result was terrible
Big Box Terrain - useful for al the skirmish games I play
Open Combat - haven't received
Airborne Commander - haven't received
Lord of the Dead - haven't played, but it was only $8 for the game
Delta Green RPG - just finished
DCC RPG - not finished yet

I've tended to avoid all the miniature intensive kickstarters, although I'll go in for rules like Open Combat that let me use the miniatures I already have.

Cthulhu Wars - Cultist - Early Bird 1 - Estimated delivery: Dec 2013 - We got the core game late, and I backed for things like shirts, dice, tokens, etc. that I no longer even care about.
Goblins: Alternate Realities - Goblin War Camp Adventurers: Core Game - Estimated delivery: Dec 2013 - Game studio ran off with the money raised, leaving the artist SOL.
The Evil Ponies - Miniature ponies for table-top gaming - DOCTOR PONES - Estimated delivery: Aug 2014 - guy went bankrupt and still delivered. I'm so impressed it's untrue.
There's also Deluxe Tunnels and Trolls - due in May 2013 - I got my pledge because I paid for artwork, but the book is yet unfinished. the crew behind it have been in full contact the entire time.

Burnout? A little I suppose. Definitely don't get as excited over new Kickstarters as I once did. Here's my admittedly small hall of shame:

Sedition Wars: All received. Didn't have the problems most others have as I didn't order any of the Wave 2 extras baring the THI suit. Nice looking models, paint up really nicely, but the material is godawful. Currently in two minds whether to back the rumoured re-boot. Depends on quality, material and amount. I don't want another massive pile of restic and bleeding thumbs.
Darklands Kickstarters: I've backed all of them and its nice to get a continual stream of resin through the post (seems every 2-3 months I get another pile!). Occasional delays, though nothing to complain about and nothing like other Kickstarters. Though, to be honest, I'm suffering a little burn out due to the rate of new Kickstarters they put out (3-4 a year) mainly due to the fact that I haven't got the spending power I once had. Still, I've got a pile of gorgeous models to go through and reducing the amount I spend on future ones allows me to catch up. Really looking forward to the metals they're producing at present. Game universe and miniature quality are both incredible though.
Kingdom Death: Monster: Mostly received. I backed at the original black friday level, pulled out and ended up joining after the Kickstarter Still, the stuff is gorgeous, but, it's just sat here, unused. I can't find the motivation to do anything about it at present.
Zombicide Season 3: All received and shoved in a cupboard a few days after I got it all. Still in its shrink wrap. Regretted pledging for this.
Fallen Frontiers: Late backer (was part of the orignal cancelled campaign but couldn't back the reboot). Lovely looking models but have since cancelled my pledge. I came to the decision that I have enough game systems and models to paint on my plate for now.
Dropfleet Commander: Ongoing. This I will back. I'm already collecting several Dropzone Commander armies and Andy Chambers writing a new space game? God yes! Watching the gameplay reminds me of BFG, but in all the right ways. Looking forward to this one.

I am not much of a Kickstarter guy for two reasons:

1) I like to know that the companies I'm investing my time in are already well-funded and established, and that they're going to be around years and decades from now producing stuff for the same setting. I don't like trying out new things from new companies, because if it doesn't work out, I end up having invested hundreds of hours in a dead-end environment.

2) I very rarely buy models without holding the physical product inches from my nose. About the only models I've ever bought on the Internet are Forge World models (and I don't buy a lot of those) and Secret Weapon Miniatures bases. Everything else, if a local shop can't bring in and have me inspect, I don't buy.

So, Kickstarter is just not for me, as much as I admire the entrepreneurism of it all

It's funny on 1 - I can decide relatively quickly whether I like something. For example, having played Prison Outbreak and then getting Rue Morgue, it was clear to me after a casual reading of the rules and a quick inspection of the tiles, that I liked Rue Morgue better. If like it, I have no problem spending dozens-hundreds of hours on it. Once I have it, I still have it, whether the company still exists or not.

For me, it's parking & spending $100+ for the privilege of trying something that I might not really like. That's what's been holding me back lately.

I've bought models and minis over the web, and so far, the Dreamforge Leviathan Crusader is just the awesomest model I've bought. Crazy cool. And it was a Kickstarter to boot.

For me, the really exceptional Kickstarters (Dreamforge, Kingdom Death, Journey) are the proof that the KS concept works. Now, if only these owner-creators could be a bit tighter on the management & excecution part...

Good points!

1. You'll note that there aren't any new CCGs on KS. A member of TMP noted that KS was not as good as retail for funding "lifestyle" games (eg. ccgs, miniature skirmish games) and I agree. While Mantic's been funding on KS, they were selling through retail before KS, so would be considered established, not a new company. OTOH, boardgames with miniatures (eg. most CMON games) aren't lifestyle games, so work well on KS.

2. Definitely a good use of time and money, especially if you paint beyond tabletop quality.

Yeah. KS works nearly perfect for minis board games - high capital cost, unknown demand, self-contained.

I'm admittedly fairly burnt out on KS. Especially people who seem to think I should praise a company for taking my money upfront several months to years in advance for little to no return on retail.

That said I've backed the following:

Bones II & III for the scenery stuff. Very happy with it.
Zombicide Rue Morge (all sold off except the game itself)
Zombicide Black Plague (like this idea a lot more than modern zombie games)
Sedition Wars (Sold enough to get my money back on everything I bought but have 3 unopened boxes in my garage)
Kingdom Death (Sold base survivor pledge for a massive mark up and will happily build my plastic pin up and sell any extra expansion when they come in.)
Dreamforge (Built my big and one small leviathan for 40k)
Deadzone 1 (terrain only)
Deadzone: Infestation (plastic forge fathers)
Warpath for $1 (not sure I'm going to buy anything more)
Mercs (will probably sell)
Wrath of Kings (went in big and love it. Sold 1 of 5 factions and got my money back on my purchase)

Overall I just don't see me going huge on these things anymore. I found I've sold off the vast majority. It's the wait time and finding someone to play on a lot of them. The rest is the amount of work that goes into them. I'm down to pledging for 2 reasons;

1) It's something I'm pumped about and know I will be 6 months from now.

2) It's something I know I can resell at a decent return on investment 6 months to a year from now.

Sometimes it's a combination (like DZC if it hits 500k) but more and more I'm finding I'm pulling back on KS in general.

@Hulksmash - I'm agreed on #1 - if I'm hot on it, and can see myself playing it months, years from now, sure.

On #2, I think maybe the KS exclusives market has peaked. S3 didn't fetch anywhere near what S2 did, what with the extended Late Pledge / open Pledge Manager stuff taking a huge bite out of that market.

Meh, I've found that as long as I'm not looking to make a 400% profit there is still a market for exclusives. I look to be able to pay for most of my purchases and maybe make a little extra. Season 1 zombicide and kingdom death profit margins don't exist anymore

I don't need to get 3x or 4x like S1 and KD:M - I'd have been satisfied with a solid 2x. It's just that selling S3 made it look like it's kinda hard to get a 2x. I mean, sure, you can get your money back, but that kinda defeats the point.

I was looking at maybe double pledging Zc Black Plague, but the sheer number of backers left me unsure I'd have been able to double up on the sale copy (so that I net a "free" game); that's why I passed on BP.

And besides, I wasn't really going into any of those games with the notion to resell - the original thought was that I wanted to play them. Once I started thinking about what I really wanted to play, it was nice that I could get some good money back. But it's not like I really needed the money or wanted to sink $100s into speculative stock as a business.

Studio McVey's Sedition Wars - Sweet spot + terrain set. My first Kickstarter, back when I thought that what Studio McVey was offering was good enough. It wasn't.

Raging Heroes' TGG - Another disappointment. I was hoping for at least one plastic kit per faction instead of nothing but worse-than-GW prices, but I still spent $15 on a single pack of infantry to see how they did. The product was fine, but the mishandling of the Kickstarter ensures that the only way Raging Heroes will ever sell me anything is to get out of the "boutique" rut and start working in HIPS like a real company.

Impact Miniatures' Trollcast Blood Bowl teams - I bought a team of Amazons, and I was happy with the result.

Marauder Inc's Marauder Task Force: Valkyries - I'm waiting for retail because the pledge levels sucked, but chances are good that I'll buy a fire team next year.

Yeah, not as a business but I like basically getting a game for free when I'm done with things. Which isn't to hard to manage really when all is said and done.

That said I don't go in on many KS's anymore. I'll do the expansions for Zombicide: Black Plague because I like the idea and might play it some time over the years. Other than that I'll go in on established companies or things that if my excitement wanes on them I can net a slight profit on resale. Which means that generally Mantic is out

Yup.

For me, it started to be a question of storage, as my closet did overfloweth with "free" stuff that I wasn't hot on. Selling it freed up the space, mentally and physically. The small profit was a nice plus.

Black Plague is a great set, no doubt. I just wasn't feeling it.

Well I'm done with KS for 2015 so I thought I'd do an end of year review

No. Backed 2014 = 10
No. Backed 2015 = 9
Spend increase or decrease year on year = increased
150% of prior years figure largely due to Zombicide Black Plague, Warpath and Deadzone Infestation

So down on number of projects backed (just) but up on spend

Total projects backed 43 (excluding projects that failed to fund)
No. still outstanding in full = 12 (of which 5 are late)
No. partially outstanding = 2 (both late)
No. failed = 0 I guess I have been lucky in that regard but I still have HQ25, AvP and Trollforged to deliver I don't foresee any failing but they will drag on.

Where to for 2016? At this point storage space is becoming an issue I may off load some stuff to clear space I'm going to try to limit myself to 5 or less KS next year.

2015 = 3 backed
- Conan -- 50% split
- Blood Rage -- base pledge, sold for profit
- Super Dungeon Explore : Legends -- 50% split
$100 net spent

2014 = 3 backed
- Zombicide Season 3 : Rue Morgue -- sold exclusives for profit
- 2x Super Dungeon Explore : Forgotten King -- sold one for profit
$80 net spent

Grand Totals
2 undelivered (Conan & SDE:Legends)
4 partially delivered (Ogre, KD:Monster, Robotech, Journey)
9 fully-delivered
$ 640 net spent

For 2016, I'll consider boutique gaming or it'll have to be an amazing "must have" of some sort (a la Conan), but that's it.

Backed in 2016 to date 0 and none on the horizon that are of interest to me. I have cut out impulse buys.

Backed to date 43

Outstanding in full 10 of which 5 are late/very late. Oldest Trollforged being 2 years 9 months overdue at this stage Ed is doing the minimum to keep it going I still think it will deliver but when is anyone's guess. AvP and HQ25 enough said.

I expect 3 to be delivered in full by the end of April and 1 in part (Prodos )

Outstanding in part 5 - I doubt Maki will ever deliver the few bits that are still to be done they have mentioned store credit a few times but are yet to deliver on that as well and Journey is going to be a long time coming,

Omadon's Realm

Went in on:
Modcube - very very happy with this product.
Bones 2 + 3 - no complaints, plenty of faith in 3.

So very nearly went in, in a really big way on:
Raging Heroes TGG - but I remembered the original minis they released and, after paying for them, receiving them so late I had entirely forgotten about them and was boggled by a packaged from France arriving at my door, 7 months down the line, and that was straight retail.

Creature Caster - Some of those really tempted me, I've seen the previous incarnation company's work before and it's nice stuff, my finger actually hovered over the button to pledge big and then, for no reason, I decided to just hold off and damn I am glad I did, what a cluster!

Prodos Aliens vs Predator - nearly... but Jesus H what a mess.

Overall feelings. Not 'burnt out', as I haven't spent big tbh, having several near misses and then watching them blossom into gigantic gakbombs, I would say instead I'm 'really bloody wary' instead and far more likely to just wait for something to come out retail.

Also GW and especially FW is back on a roll from where I'm sitting, so they'll be getting more of my money again. With Specialist Games on the horizon, I'm going to start putting some cash away to go big on it. All of it...
