Thank you!

I have come to a crossroads!

I am planning three different projects/conversions, one is to convert Tektite Zenith, another is to convert up a custon Chronos pain engine for my Dark Artisan, and another is to start a Harlequinns hero's path (no doubt inspired by Ynead's Harlies).

Currently, I have a few dollars (about $40) to spend, but all those conversions are somewhat expensive. The Chronos, would be a culmination of a wraithlord and talos bits, maybe instead of the wraith lords head I can use the top of a reaver combined with mainly Talos and raider bits. However both kits are ~$45 and I would need both in their entirety.

Archon Zenith would be a bit easier. I would need to do some planning, and take a closer look at the deathjester cape (all Archons worth their salt need capes) so if somebody has a photo or information on how that fits with a dark eldar torso (preferably one from the scourge kit) that'd be greatly appreciated.

And then a harlequin heroes path. This is probably the worst idea out of them all. I really love the somewhat mystical and colourful scheme of the harlequins, however that also involves buying a codex and adjusting my list to account for the points cost of that formation.

I am leaning towards the Chronos conversion, I can totally pick up a wraithlord tomorrow and see if I can get something nice looking with the bits I have (I mainly need the arms of the talos) and if I can just grab another kit (I would like the Chain Flails and liquifier gun).

Any thoughts? I am hesitant to do Zenith Currently, because a Dark Artisan can be slotted in and out of my list very easily (replace my jetflights with the dark artisan and cut a few upgrades here and there, I can do this with a beastpack too), but an archon is something I don't take often (I prefer succubi myself)

Ooh now that's a tough decision...

I'd love to see all of them (and flattered that you like my Harlies enough for them to he in the running!)

Really, the best question would be 'which one are you most excited about making?'

I think I will go with the chronos, simply as I have the best idea for it, so its definitely the one I'm most excited for! Can you have multi wound models in Kill Team? Heros path kill team would be awesome!

Anyways, I got a bit done today.

I did a test scheme on a reaver, and dug up some bits. So I think I have enough bitz for the conversion. I'm picking up the wraithlord tomorrow so we'll see how he turns out!

I tried doing up a test base, but really it was a disaster, so tomorrow night I might try again.

I also did a bit of red on this reaver, specifically as a way of subtly showing the difference in origin and the such, but still remaining true to the idea of the Stellar Parallax. HC units will get the same treatment, except with probably a purple as a accent colour. The kabal gets white. Hopefully it should separate units a bit more.

Thanks for all the support everybody, it really means a lot!

That Reaver looks fantastic, as does the group shot really liking this scheme

A Heroes Path kill-team would be really cool, and very fluffy indeed not sure about legality, but a Solitaire would clean up shop methinks

Looking forward to the twisted creation you come up with

I think the scheme looks even better on the bike then the foot troops. That or bikes are just intrinsically cooler.

Nice group shot.

Thanks all!

I think the larger surface panels on the bikes lend to some nicer corner highlighting with the grey, and just generally more room to work with! It does look quite nice on the bikes however, I must admit.

I have another pain engine!

I am not sure how I feel about the conversion. I like it to an extent, but it is also pretty harsh and haphazard compared to most. I also don't like how static I build his pose to be.

I like it, even if you're not sure looks twisted and sharp, and I love the big reaper scythe/axe thing

I also like the pose as well. I find it's difficult to get just the right amount of dynamism in a model for its character. The typical extreme example is how the running Khorne Berserkers look.

I've always pictured Wraithlords less as dynamic sprinters, but more as lazy slender giants that stride gracefully across the battlefield, utilising they're massive stride-length to keep up a strong pace. Your Talos/Wraithlord/Reaper looks like it's marking out its next victim, pointing towards them with it's horrible gribbly tentacle

If a wraith-construct is pointing, they'd point like the guy on the left:

Spoiler:

I wouldn't get downhearted about it not being how you imagined it to be first off the bat. I went through about 7 or 8 different arm permutations on my little Knight Errant before I got the ones that I liked plus, I don't think it looks harsh I think it looks sharp and pointy, which is exactly what a DEldar Wraithlord-construct would look like (and will lend rather well to your paint scheme).

If I may make a suggestion/question.

Spoiler:
Would you rather have his weapon as a scythe than an axe?

Rather than hefting the axe in its one hand, you could make it into a big long scythe that's resting on the floor as well. If you can find another long bit of rod from something, you can extend the bottom of the haft downwards til it reaches the floor. Then it'll look like he's resting it in place while he's pointing to the poor hapless Guardsmen that's locked in its sights If you want you could clip off and re-position the hand so that it's less hefting the weapon (head of the weapon forward of the centre of gravity) and more resting it (more vertical over the centre of gravity).

No worries if not, but if you're not entirely happy with the pose it's worth just finding something and holding it in place while you look at it and see if you prefer it if you don't, then you know you're happier than you thought you were with the original pose

Automatically Appended Next Post:
The more I look at this, the more I like the posing with the axe he's not standing still pointing, he's slowly walking purposefully across the battlefield pointing towards some Marine that's thoroughly testing the limits of the 'And They Shall Know No Fear' rule

There's a feel of inevitability of what's going to happen next

Hey everybody, I come with some news and some questions!

I got two more reavers done today, which I am happy about, they are really not enjoyable to paint in my scheme as there are just so man panels to highlight, but very rewarding when I get them done.

I went to my FLGS yesterday and played quite a bit of Kill Team and a normal game against a really nice space wolves player. I lost the large game, but won 2 Kill Team games and drew another one. I was running 6 reavers and 5 kabalite warriors, with a few upgrades here and there.

Anyways, I ordered 12 Harlequins off ebay for a steal ($20 baby!)... it may or may not have been an impulse buy.

I like the idea of harlequins, especially as allies for my current DE.

I also had a really funny idea of basing for the Harlequins, maybe like playing cards, poker chips and dice all put onto the base, not sure how this would look though, anyone know somebody who has done something this crazy recently ?

Thanks all!

I like the idea of playing-card bases. Could be done quite simply with plasticard and a paintjob methinks looking forward to seeing what you come up with

If you were just painting them as display pieces, I think card/poker bases could be fun. But if you plan on fielding them in game, I think you should stick with something normal. Specifically, base them the same as the rest of your force. Bases are one of those things that tie an army together. They might have different paint jobs, but as long as you keep some elements the same, and basing consistent, they will look like they belong together.

If you are going to mix up the different Eldar factions, with different aesthetics and schemes, I would base them the same.

YMMV, IMHO, etc.

Bikes look good!

Thanks everyone!

I don't have anything to show y'all, mainly due to attending a concert into the late evening of last night so I didn't have any time to paint.

I have three things currently sitting on my desk, three reavers, a venom and some scourge. And thats the order I plan to paint them in. I really want to get the reavers done to have a fully painted Kill Team list, but I also just want to fully complete that aspect of my army.

Additionally, I found some examples of a kinda card/poker chip/dice based harlequin army! Specifically from the Dark Artisan youtube channel (amazing batreps BTW) (all image credit goes to the Dark Artisan facebook page)

After kinda seeing these bases, I really like them but I am not sure if they are what I want for an army. We shall see I assume.

Also I think I have thought of a good scheme for my harlies (they are supposed to get here by friday, but I'm hoping for earlier) the plan is first a small min masque detachment (not hard considering how elite harlies actually are). The plan is probably a black/really really dark grey, with white and red checkers and some green sprinkled in. This way I have an army that completely compliments my Dark Eldar (using the white of the kabalite, the red of the wych cults, and the eventual green of the HC) but should still look good as its own army.

Stay tuned for updates everyone!

Hey all!

Thanks for the support recently.

Due to a shipping mixup the harlequins haven't arrived yet (accidentally entered the wrong address on ebay, having moved earlier this year its quite an adjustment, and due to a shaky closing they current owners haven't gotten back to me about the package ugh. Hopefully that's not $30 wasted)

However, I did get some paint thrown down on a few minis, I'll put some photos up soon, once I get home.

I have been a bit lacking in the paint department, a bit of a depression and a busy schedule has left my paint time wanting.

On another note, I need to do some stripping. A ton of kabalite warriors and a few venoms should be stripped so my army is at least not a bunch of different schemes all mish mashed together. However, I really like the paint job I did on my archon's cloak, does anybody have any experience with painting over a fully painted model? I don't want to strip him as that would ruin the cloaks paint job.

Thanks for the support everybody!

For some reason I haven't been getting updates on this thread for a while, I missed so much! So where to begin...

I love the blue you're using on your DE now, it's a great scheme, keep it up. That Talos is absolutely Badass, seriously killer, can't wait to see him painted. As for the Harlies your idea sounds great, can't wait to see a test model of it.

For your Archon I'd not suggest painting over paint because you'll lose detail but depending on how the cloak attaches you could try removing it from the model before you strip him.

Thanks I_F, its good to see you back

Sadly, the cloak is a bit less forgiving as I used plastic glue to build him.

I am very excited for the Harlequins, I am also excited for my Dark Eldar, not only getting everything painted, but also expanding with a few of the unloved units (IE: Mandrakes and some hellions eventually, we shall see...)

Bummer on the postage front. Hopefully they're decent enough people and will send it on to you

Alas, not much experience with repainting stuff, or stripping stuff for that matter (although I need to have a go at my Daughter of Khaine as I've never really been pleased with the paintjob she's got).

Your Archon's cloak is really beautiful though (which I flagrantly copied for mine!), so it would be a shame to strip it, but if you've done it once you can do it again

Oh, and Mandrakes are actually half-decent now not goign to be spamming them like Scatbikes, but a couple of units of 3 infiltrating up can be an excellent distraction tactic while the rest of your army gets into position

Considering how the closing went, I am not sure on that front (long story, I will save you guys the annoyance )

I grabbed some simple green and some super glue and the crafts store, hopefully I can throw some pics of a test basing scheme up later tonight.

Also a great idea for an archon conversion, maybe once this one is stripped I can chop off a few of his arms and do something cool I have planned

Finally some pictures!

I threw a ton of minis into some simple green, so I am so excited to see the unpainted models I noticed that I actually had two of the old resin archons! So be prepared for some conversions in a few days!

I also tried some basing, and it really really didn't turn out how I like. Maybe you guys will have a different opinion but I am not happy with it. Something just feels off... I can't put my finger on it. Thoughts?

So, here is everything I have painted in the last few days, A venom, a kabalite warrior with a splinter cannon and two scourge.

that Venom looks awesome dude, it's a real standout addition, the blue looks great on it. All the others came out great too especially those blue feathered wings on your scourge. As for the basing I'm curious what the goal is with it. To me it looks like shattered tiles. It doesn't look bad but if you'd like some tips on it I'd like to start with what your goal for the basing is and we can build from there.

Man, you've been busy since I last looked in.

Reaver jetbikes are looking awesome, the blue/black works on them really well, likewise with the viper.

Really digging the scourges too, especially the one with the bone coloured bat wings.

Loving the new models dude the canopy on the venom is especially nice

As for the basing, I've always been of the school that bases should be relatively understated compared to the model so your attention is drawn to the little dude rather than the base. Perhaps the brightness of the red draws peoples' eye too much compared to the model above.

How about trying one with a much darker red base, or cut the red entirely as it's a stark contrast to the blue and have them all the white tiles?

Worth a shot to see what you prefer

Ooh! You could do some selective wibbly streaks of light grey across the white to make it look like they're walking across the cracked marble tiles of some old Imperial temple
