I can't believe I haven't seen your P&M until today. Although I'm exclusively a Xenos convertor, thanks to your painting prowess, I can now see the appeal of wanting to collect a Space Marine. You've not only done the models justice but you've litterally brought them to life and given them a level of character that's typically only seen on prize winning models. That you would paint a whole army to a contest-level speaks volumes of your abilities and your passion for painting. Then again, considering you had the Massive Voodoo website loaded up on your monitor it doesn't really surprise me. I'd say you've matched their level of skill with your models for sure.

I actually don't know how to play the game and don't know anyone else that plays. Maybe once I finish more models later this year, I'll get myself into a shop for a demo game.

Did you get that demo game in yet? Seeing as how I live in White Rock, it would be my pleasure to give you a demo over a friendly game. Just send me a PM if it's something you're interested in.

Thanks for the kind words Dark_Gear. I haven't had a chance to get a demo game in yet, not that I don't want to but I don't have much time these days and what time I do have I'd rather spend it painting.

Time just seems harder to come by as we get older and the hobbies get more involved no? One of these days I'll have to stop sculpting and break out the airbrush again to work on the back log of Nids and the other third of my Dark Eldar. With a tournament coming up in Richmond this March I've got another solid deadline to strive for again, and that's usually when I'm my most productive.

Yes, it's either you don't have enough money but lots of time (younger) or enough money but not enough time (older). Anyway, looking forward to seeing the rest of your DE get painted. I need to start my DE sometime soon...along with orks and GK which I've been collecting models for.

Quick update: finished off Tycho tonight:

Nicely done, Eggroll - out of interest, have you managed to get hold of the pre-Tycho Tycho (the original Blood angels Captain model)?

Thanks Dysartes. Not sure which one would be the original Tycho model? I thought they only made one?

I guess Dysartes means this old chap, which only us old timers can remember:

He was the original Blood Angel captain from Rogue Trader era.

Nice work on the metal armor on your more recent version, it looks nice and smooth and has good variation of tone to keep it interesting.

Look at that glorious power armor nipple!

As usual Egg, your work is outstanding

Also, I just noticed that Tycho has a backpack very similar to Khorne Berserkers... dun dun dun!!!

Ah thanks Metsuri, for the comment and the reference.

Alfndrate - thanks and the huge nipple bothered me a lot when painting. I almost decided to file it down. Nipples on the sang guard aren't as bad but this guy's nipple is huge. Ugh. Also, the backpack is the standard one he comes with I believe? It's one of the older variants I think.

Yeah, and being from around the time of the Horus Heresy, your "stock standard" khorne-worshiping World Eaters would have a very old variant of the back packs.

Indeed, that would be the pre-Tycho Tycho - the reference comes from the fact that he was used as a BA Captain called Erasmus Tycho in a WD battle report way back in the day, that had the Captain taken out by a Weirdboy Psychic Vomit attack (IIRC). When Codex: Angels of Death was released in '93/4, Captain Tycho made his debut as a "official" special character, complete with background reference to suffering partial facial paralysis following the psychic trauma...

Hazzer - Thanks

Dysartes - Ah good to know - learn sometime new everyday about this hobby

jabbakahut - Sounds painful For my gold I start with a black primer, then GW tin bitz followed by GW shinning gold and then vallejo airbrush gold. The ork skull is from the skulls bitz pack GW sells. Figured it was fitting for Tycho to include the ork one. I've been trying to drop at least one skull on all my HQ choices which reminds me I need to go back and add them to the chaplains I did recently.

I just looked through the last third or so of this thread and now plan to go through from the beginning. I love your reds. The way you shade and chip the color really makes the armor look "hard" and dangerous, like the cold steel of a blade.

Tycho looks badass. You've brought new life to an old sculpt!

Glory to the Twelfth! Glory to Angron!

‎"Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls. The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does. That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

Thanks for the comments guys.

Interesting thing happened last night, well more frustrating than interesting. Was cleaning the Veda airbrush and during reassembly of the nozzle, I must have over tightened it and the whole nozzle head came off from the threading. Must've used some cheapo metal for it to break so easily. Threading is now stuck in the base of the airbrush so even though I have a replacement nozzle, I won't be able to use it. Oh well, the quality of the cheapo ebay airbrush is finally shown through. Anyway, not a big deal since my Iwata is still my workhorse that I use for almost everything and I still have the Infinity. Just a word of warning for any others out there that are using the chinese airbrushes...don't over tighten the nozzle!

Hey eggroll, I tend to lurk as I don't want to just say wow amazing (which while true is the Like button post) - However that yellow on tycho's banner is staggering in the level of texture created. Achingly good work.

That sucks, bad luck mate! That is one thing I like about the Infinity – excellent build quality. By the way you know you can get a 2.0 nozzle and needle for it so it doesn't clog so much with the 1.5. I got both a 2.0 for paint and 4.0 for varnishes, works like a dream now!
Great work on Tycho (need to crack on with mine sometime soon...) and the Vindicator too. On the Vindicator, did you use a sponge to do the 'speckled' weathering on the hazard stripes on the dozer?

I had the same thing happen on my veta. I got the remaining thread out by using an airbrush cleaning spike (though an xacto would work just as well) and pushing it into the part stuck in the airbrush. then, once its cut into the metal, slowly turn it counterclockwise until the small piece comes out.

For a 20$ airbrush though the veda has been very good to me.

LutherMax - Yup, actually I'm ashamed to say, I've barely used the Infinity up to this point. I figured with the 0.15mm tip, it's best for really fine detail work which I rarely do. The Iwata has continued to be my go to airbrush...I actually never really needed the other two at all. I'll have to look into the 0.2 nozzle once the Iwata dies. For the vindicator (I think you mean the damocles rhino) I did the weathering all by hand. I know about the sponge technique but the results are a bit different from doing my hand chipping so I'm sticking with this for now until I move onto another army.

king88mob - You're a genius! Thanks for the tip! I tried it with the exacto knife and it came out. I put in the 0.3mm spare nozzle and needle now and will probably use it for applying primer.

Just when I think you can't get any better then you come along with this!

It's always a mixed bag when I see new stuff on here, it starts with shear amazement at the awesomeness which quickly becomes envy at your every growing army of awesomeness which then refers quickly to respect at your skills of awesomeness!

So to sum up, he is awesome!

Any plans to do DC Tycho?

Thanks EC! Not sure about DC Tycho and I'd rather not have any duplicate models in my army. I might try and kitbash a DC version of him sometime in the future though. Just need to find a suitable head with a half mask and will be all set.

I've only ever used the Infinity so couldn't say how it compares to the Iwata. I've heard good things about them though so as you say no need to switch to the H&S while you still have that.
Move on to another army, you say..? Any ideas on which one in particular?
