The Dark World Temple is very cool. I actually think silver would be better for the spear hero, as it'll give more contrast and make the two identities pop more.
Looks good anyway, and the Heresy models you've built look grand.

Went for the copper/brass look using Screaming Bell and Reikland Fleshshade (still WIP).. plus I did a wee bit on the inside of the piece. I quite like the sort of messianic feel it has to it. What do we think?

Had a bit of excitement about book 6 of the Horus Heresy and thought I'd come back to the large pile of plastic Calth stuff I have just sitting here doing nowt.
Started painting mr 'temptor dreadnought.. Bit rough arsed at the moment but he's taking shape. Love this Vallejo primer stuff. Much much nicer than the Imperial Primer stuff. Though in hindsight, I wish I'd sprayed the fether with Chaos black. It's proving a pain in the backside to get under those shoulders now :(
Dirt and grime would still collect on it over time, deposited by rainfall, blow in by the wind ect, so perhaps after the first Agrax wash (to give depth/detail) you then do a less consistent, more patchy second wash ect to simulate that?

You could try turning the piece upside down and giving it a grimy wash to simulate the dirt Para mentioned. That way it looks like rain came down and washed some grime away. Also you could add some vines or moss in between the stones.

I hit it with a 2nd coat of Seraphim Sepia (upside down) so it should look grimy and weathered. Any suggestions for the flames at the base of the Hydra? In the game it's supposed to be a cursed building that attacks unfortunate souls, and traps them and they become part of the murals on its walls for eternity. So maybe some ethereal flames painted in Ceramite White, followed by a glaze of Guilliman Blue with a highlight of White Scar.
Whilst I was waiting for the wash to dry I did a bit of painting on this fellow below, whom I've decided will be the BaC temptor's 41st millennium appearance. As a veteran of the Horus Heresy, and the destruction of Caliban, he is one of the few functioning Contemptor dreadnoughts of the Chapter. **edited for verbal diarrhoea

Huh, did a double take there, I was expecting HH black! Nice Deathwing bone colour though!
As for the flames at the base of the temple, my first thought (not knowing the fluff) was to paint them as some kind of crystal, jade green or amethyst purple were the ones that immediately sprang to mind. Could still fit the fluff; they see the shinyness, go to take a closer look, touch the stone and the spell takes hold and pulls them in.

Thanks very much, BillyC. Pretty chuffed with that Triarch Stalker myself! Shame I broke one of the pincers on the torso, though.
Cheers Para- took a good few coats to get it up to that. While we're on the subject of the Deathwing Contemptor, I'd welcome any suggestions for markings.

The HH dread won't be finished until I can get my mitts on the new book. That way, I'll have some idea of the Dark Angels Legion markings and I can apply that to my BaC stuff.

Apothecary Mordin Solus reporting for duty Sort of. He's a bit WIP at the moment obviously. Going for a slightly battered look, since I'm pretty sure they'd be in the thick of it to retrieve the Progenoids.
Also, could do with a response to the above please

So my brother's pledge reward for Minion Miniatures little Kickstarter has arrived- behold some truly fantastic sculpts! We have a Deathscale lizardman as well, but the image came out blurry so I'll have to get a better photo in a bit. But for now, check out the Bugbear, Flesh Golem and the Deathscale concept art from the KS. The Deathscale is pretty fething huge. More like a Kroxigor on steroids. Or if you've read any of the Lone Wolf stuff by Joe Dever, one of the giant lizardmen type beasties- Garodon I think it was? Bugbear

Why the move to the slim round bases?
Cheaper than buying them from GW direct. Renedra do packs of 32 30mm bases for £4 each, whereas you're looking at a pack of 10 for £3 each from GW. Makes sense...
