The Phoenix Lords are demigods of battle, warriors whose legends span the stars. They are embodiments of the warrior nature of the eldar, and each walks his own path. The first, and greatest, is Asurmen, the Hand of Asuryan. Since he led his people from destruction at the time of the Fall, he has guided his children, the Dire Avengers, in defending the remnants of the eldar as they plan their rise back to galactic dominance. A superlative warrior and peerless leader, Asurmen is one of the greatest hopes of the eldar race.

About this edition:
A stunning 224-page A5 hardback novel presented in a lavish dustjacket with internal colour section, this book is a fantastic insight into the creation of the first Warrior Aspect, as well as a snapshot of Asurmen’s current struggle against Chaos. Strictly limited worldwide to 1,000 copies and exclusively available via blacklibrary.com, it features a beautiful full-colour section with character vignettes and wargear descriptions. The savage grace of the eldar’s plight has never been represented quite so elegantly before.

THE STORY
The Inquisition moves amongst mankind like an avenging shadow, striking down the enemies of humanity with uncompromising ruthlessness. When he finally corners an old foe, Inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn is drawn into a sinister conspiracy. As events unfold and he gathers allies – and enemies – Eisenhorn faces a vast interstellar cabal and the dark power of daemons, all racing to recover an arcane text of abominable power: an ancient tome known as the Necroteuch.

READ IT BECAUSE
The classic novel returns in a brand new edition. Inquisitor Eisenhorn gathers allies to unravel a conspiracy and hunt an alien threat. Relive the adventures of some of Warhammer 40,000’s most beloved characters, or experience the beginning of Eisenhorn’s remarkable adventures for the first time.

Seriously, this is fething great news. Some babies may whine about it being a reissue of an older novel, but this is one of the greats BL shat out back in the day, this was the novel that helped launch the Inquisitor game back then.

Or the Ciaphas Cain books.

Reprinting Xenos is just plain stupid. Great book, but waste of a reprint slot. Either the Omnibus or a new book please. Stop printing these single old books in uberplatinumedition releases and limiting the new stuff to e-micro shorts. What happened to the good days of expecting 2-3 good 40K books a month, usually 2 MMPB and an omnibus or hardback.

Agreed, I got super excited that it was a sequel to Paraiah when I first saw the pic. I want that, or the next Gaunts Gosts... That is pretty and all but it's pointless..

I'd rather reread Xenos then get disappointed by the second book in the Eisenhorn X Ravenor series.

Except I imagine most people who enjoy those books already own Xenos.

We'll find out soon enough eh.

I dunno, if it had been a new edition of the omnibus I'd have been all over it - I've read my copy so many times it's close to falling apart, and in those days the quality of BL's binding was actually reasonable.

I've just been rereading the trilogy and have nearly finished Hereticus. I really wish they'd get on and print new stuff, not keep regurgitating the old classics in new covers. And of course this version will be too big...

The Eizenhorn trilogy is one I would actually love to have seen come out in a leather bound hardcover. It's a real science fiction classic, to me anyway.

I still find what happening with black library kind of strange. Abnetts vanished with little trace, ADB is missing in action, sandy Mitchell hasn't shown up in ages and now an announcement from Mr McNeill that he is off. these are big hitters in BL land. As a previous poster was saying it's such a dramatic change from 2 or 3 good books a month to a stream of little articles on ebook format.

Agreed. The latest releases have all been "meh", especially the ones to accompany AdMech.

This thread has been going since January 14. The FW thread has maxed out several times since then. There are not many regular contributors to this thread. It feels at times slightly empty and that no reclection on the good people of dakka, it's just there isn't much to say. BL is either dying off or morphing into something else, which must be popular within a group I'm unfamiliar with. I don't even mind the more lavish formats I like a well presented book, but I do like books, good books with good stories.

Their switch from just releasing novels to.... whatever they are now has turned a lot of people off.

I'm only in for the HH series and the conclusion of the Eisenhorn vs Ravenor series. The Sons of Horus series might be good, but i have a feeling that the major battle will end with less than a satisfying ending.

Agreed, there's been a palpable drop off in the BL threads since I first signed up, back then I remember them bouncing to the top of Pg1 on at least a daily basis (or so it seemed) now it's basically whenever Red has some news and maybe a couple of comments in reaction.

All the enthusiasm and excitement for the product seems to have drained away, I remember hammering F5 to bag a copy of Promethean Sun, nowadays I couldn't tell you what the last, or the next HH book, outside of the core novels, and the core books are the only thing I'm sticking with for now, despite the diminishing returns.

Hmm, agree and disagree. I actually quite enjoyed Skitarius and Tech-Priest(the linked pair), but they could have been a lot better had the author not been shackled with a "mention and describe in detail every new model release at least once, and have them do something KEWL" brief.

I get that it's a fine line to walk when you're producing material for a commercialised IP; GW want to "leverage" all possible aspects of their business for a new release, I understand that, but it feels more and more as if BL is going the same way as White Dwarf, where the tie-in commercial aspect stops being something they try to disguise with other, often excellent content and just becomes the totality of the offering. For me the strength of BL and the reason I continued going into a GW store on a regular basis to check the new novel releases even during the long periods when I took a break from "the hobby" more generally was that they explored the universe beyond just the tabletop. I bought and read the Eisenhorn trilogy because I'm a fan of the Inquisition, but the reason it's still on my shelf, reread so often it's almost falling apart is the fantastic world building - even thought it was a "tie in"(originally started around the same time as the 54mm Inquisitor game), the end result was just a good book, just as although White Dwarf was always to some degree a catalogue, for a long time it didn't feel like that's what you were buying because of the quality and variety of content.

It makes me sad, more than anything else; wondering whether GW management will ever again take their boot from BL's throat enough for them to produce another Eisenhorn or Matthias Thullman or Ciaphas Cain.

I think the Eisenhorn trilogy is one I really need to get my hands on. Could be a good read for the summer, seeing as I am going to have to fill my book-reading time with something after exams finish on Friday. Hmmm, Eisenhorn clearly was good from the comments here, what about Ravenor too?

Eisenhorn is simple excellent, the first chapter alone ends with such a badass quote..

“So you have me then, pictured. Gregor Eisenhorn, inquisitor, puritan, Amalathian, forty-two years old standard, an inquisitor for the past eighteen years. I am tall and broad at the shoulders, strong, resolute. I have already told you of my force of will, and you will have noted my prowess with a blade. What else is there? Am I clean-shaven? Yes! My eyes are dark, my hair darker and thick.

These things matter little.

Come and let me show you how I killed Eyclone."

And from that point onwards it just escalates and escalates.

Though I will say this, the opening chapter of Ravenor has this gem:

Molotch punched in the coordinates and slammed the flier west over the gloss-black rot-forests. He could do this. He WOULD do this...

"Where you going, Zygmunt?" a voice suddenly crackled over his link. Molotch knew the voice. It belonged to Harlon Nayl, the most dangerous agent in his bastard-adversaries private cadre.

"Does it matter where I'm going, bounty hunter?" Molotch said, cueing the vox to 'send'. "I don't see you being able to stop me now."

"Oh, you know me, Zygmunt," the voxed voice replied. "You bring a blade, I bring a cannon... you bring a flyer..."

Noiseless, arch-winged, ominous, a Valkyrie assault carrier rose from the forest before him, washing the canopy growth back in a wide, concentric ripple.

And the chapter dedicated to Ravenor mentally sifting through a city, getting darker and darker the deeper he goes, just awesome.

Will you join the crusade?13/06/15
The Sabbat World Crusade has been part of Warhammer 40,000 lore for a long time now. It's been over fifteen years since Dan Abnett started telling the story of Commissar Gaunt and his men from the Tanith First. Now, in the brand new ‘Sabbat Crusade’, a collection of authors – Abnett included – explore the events of the crusade from a variety of views – including through the eyes of the enemy.

This massive book contains no fewer than eleven short stories set across the length and breadth of the Sabbat Worlds, including four new tales of Gaunt’s Ghosts. There is also a novella by Matthew Farrer focusing on the efforts of the Adeptus Mechanicus within the crusade as they battle the sinister Dark Mechanicum…

‘Sabbat Crusade’ is available to pre-order in hardback (and check out the amazing cover art by Gemmell Award-winner Raymond Swanland!), or if you can’t wait, you can download the eBook right now

Previously available in some swanky limited edition type format.

Sure it's already been said but the Event only releases and pricing model don't help.

I'm their ideal kind of "sucker" in that I enjoy the HH series and moved to hardback rather than wait over a year for the legacy paperbacks to get released. £25 for a hardback is scandalous though, should be around £20 which they were initially at the most.

I also ended up paying £41.00 for Meduson on ebay with £4 postage. Based on the fact that a train to Nottingham would have cost me more than £15 so with the book being £30 it almost seemed like a good deal.

I should just pack it in really.
