Thank you all, and hope you all had a merry Christmas!
For yet another change of pace, I started on the (Cub N° 1's, apparently now ) Deadzone Plague, so yes, I got to paint some pinks:
And it is not even Sunday!
Thoughts, comments, critiques and suggestions are always appreciated.
Cheers!
PS: Yes, the gap between the two fence sections bothers me as well, it's a design flaw - more precisely, caused by an on-the-fly design change, brought by by the need to reinforce the poles to prevent them for bending in -. I'd originally though about making a "central" piece with beams going out to both sides, articulating freely to allow for different dispositions. Didn't work out .

@Gits: The colour scheme is based on Mantic's stock version, with a brighter note.
Started blocking another two; looking at the the pink base coat, I'd say Pesty and Bazooka Joe:

I went with w more gore splattered look for mine. I have seen many interpretations of the plague all over the net, as they do come from many scattered and different artifacts, who can say what the strains of the mutagenic retro-virus will have?

@Shas: I just bowed to the inevitable and so officially gave them to Cub N° 1 for Christmas, paint and all. Pick of colour scheme was his then, and wanted to keep the official look, so thus. I tried to lighten/brighten the the colours a bit, giving these a tad more contrast between clothes and skin, and distancing the flesh from zombie undead.
Speaking of which, done with the other two for now (faces in particular need some more work), but calling them quick TT ready for the time being.
C&C are always welcome.

Power beams was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the theme, and I think it worked out well enough. Maybe not too practical table-wise (cables and all), but it does look different!

Well, that is the horror, they are still alive, in agony driving them insane, thus more susceptible to whatever suggestions the mutagen is feeding them through their linked minds, and voila, skills tht can still be used as opposed to the plague zombies that are undead reanimated corpses under the control of the plague (That pesky plague is quite adaptable to get it's mission completed).

@Red H: It's not just pink, it is bright pink. And brighter and less grimdarker opens up a whole new set of possibilities, doesn't it?
Sorry about the lack of SM laser-cut slices, tried to keep it generic, but the temptation is there... Maybe one little bit, just to make a point?
@Shaso: There are plague zombies too?
@EyeamRai: Thanks, and welcome.
Already sent in the requested extra pics, and thinking about what to do next... I don't know, might even keep on painting some more... It's kind of growing up on me, seems to be another acquired taste, after all

Brighter is better. And I think it should be spelled Grimme Dark™. (like the UK spellings for programme or kilogramme.) That way it can be trademarked, and we know that IP protection is a top priority for some folks. The Astra Militarum is it now?
Those are of the 'restic' material? I've heard some unkind things about that stuff. Your impressions?

@RiTides: Thanks! Went for some experimentation, glad it worked out.
On a different note, and right before year's End (but missing the Christmas tree by that much), my prize for placing 2° on the 11 th Round of the LoER Terrain Contest: On The Road, has finally arrived!
From Red Harvest, a bucketful-o-bitz, plus some!
A metal Assassin, a set of huge riveted wheels, some energy-fence poles (and now I get them ), some spare hand jack carts and their operator, and a bunch of IG flamers, among many other goodies!
Again, thanks a lot, Red H., and I hope I make them justice!
Speaking of Comps, Round 12 th of the LoER Terrain Contest: Wall me up, fence me in has just finished, results are in, and the high-powered fence got the People's Choice award, and as Monkeytroll stated, I get to bathe in the warm fuzzy feeling you get from the respect and recognition of your peers I'll surely be drinking to that (too! ) tonight!
Cheers to all, and happy New Year!
Red Harvest wrote:Those are of the 'restic' material? I've heard some unkind things about that stuff. Your impressions?
Those Mantic's Plague are indeed hard plastic, restic, or sprueless plastic. rom my limited experience, not too (well) impressed with them. Plenty of mold lines - and quite prominent ones at that, too - not always with best placing either (I reckon some could have been avoided or ameliorated by a more exacting planning of the moulds), and - this being the most important part, I guess - very hard to remove when compared to GW's plastics, for instance. And I mean, very . Scrapping with the edge of a blade is not usually enough, I ended up attacking the most resilient parts with a Dremel operated (soft) metal brush. Worked out quite well, actually.
In truth, agreement with Cub N° 1 regarding those was he cleaned, prepped and assembled, and I painted them. Not my smartest move to get him started on the hobby side of things, since it got to be a quite hard and unrewarding task! (Hence, me dremeling them down in secret when the Cub wasn't looking )

De nada. I thought you might get a smile out of the 'hand jack carts'. They seemed a fitting inclusion.
Your fence pillars are much better than those anyway. Looks like Customs did you a favor by delaying them?
Sounds like something I'll avoid then, the restic. The other criticism I hear of it is that is is not very glue friendly at all.
Now drinking. This is my drink for this evening http://www.troegs.com/our_brews/mad_elf_ale.aspx
But just one. Potent stuff. But so good.

Nice job, looks great, nice tones and smooth paint.
Would like to see the hair a bit more, um I don't know really, "shaded", not sure, maybe a dark wash, or a highlight. Just that it looks a little flat compared to the rest of the model. But please ignore me, I really have no idea. LOL
Nice to see you keeping to the painting Sundays thing, what else you upto this year bud?

Thanks Cam. Absolutely right on that, good catch. That's just a first layer on a pre-shadowed white base; wash to darken the recesses and a re-highlight on the same green (at least, maybe a second lighter one too, if needed) are coming next.
I wanted to put it through the owner (Client sounds kind of weird in this context to me ) before moving on with the paint, and since I had the pics...
As for what's next in the queue, there's always something: I've got a couple builds to finish - some half-done Hammerhead comes to mind... -, another (or three ) tankettes to make up for the one the flew over the pond... Maybe I can grab some other commissions, who knows...
I've had the dream-dea of a gaming table for quite some time (just impossible to justify, since I don't play more than a handful games a year, and some of those are not even at my place!), but...
Maybe some more terrain for a smaller board skirmish like game - I already have some DeadZone, or I could proxy Infinity in the meantime - so as to actually play...
I could even paint some IG, for all I know (Stranger things are bound to happen this year yet!)
Cheers!
