Three male giants, one of which is a leader, one female priestess and the jailer, which I might convert a tad to make him more generic thanks to the extra armament choices of the king.
They will need to be reused a fair bit but five giants at a time is sufficient for a medium-high level party to face. I looked at the possibility of getting two more regular giants, but I think its unnecessary to go that far.
I wont 'ice' them up so they will remain regular giants, with careful colour choices I could use them as hill, fire and frost giants, which are the only ones generally fought en masse.

I got this bit wrong guys. The fire giant is a full fire giant apparently, not a fire giant working for the frost giants. Yes the bracers look similar to those the frost giants wear. But there are also fire giant models wearing them, and the armkour is similar but distinctive to the frost giants:

This model is unmistakably proportioned and armed as a D&D fire giant.

So that puts end to that unless I want a specific fire giant jailer as an employee.

However the king and queen giant, which don't really look regal enough for the part, are reinforced by the fact that Reaper have already done a frost (and fire) giant king that is far more impressive.
Here they are:

Listed now as a 'jarl' which makes sense, but also as a king in and earlier Bones kickstarter.

This is listed as a priestess.

The older miniature definitely looks more regal complete with crown etc, the new queen/ jarl's lady however is better than the older one, who better serves as a priestess.

Hmm seven different frost giants.

They redid the frost giants due to customer requests. D&D frost giants are like those of Norse legends, not the Inuit/caveman mashups Reaper originally did for Warlord. The original Bones frost giants work for hill giants in the cold (or in general), but didnt fit the aesthetics people wanted.

That was one of our most lethal HackMaster campaigns, and that's REALLY saying something!

Poor Arok and his level 24 critical hit to the top of the head.

Good times.

I spent $165 on this KickStarter. feth you guys. I didn't want to get roped into this one!

Anyone looking to my earlier recommendations take note.. the Tyranny of Dragons Frost Giant and the Paizo Frost Giant are similar in size (the Tyranny one is about 3.25" to the Paizo 3") but the Heroclix Frost Giant from the X-men set is massive. To the top of his head (not counting the horns on his helmet or his raised arm) is 3.5" and he's crouching. Standing he'd be 4-5" tall. He's extremely tall but the sculpt is excellent IMO. The newer Reaper Frost Giants look taller than the previous ones. The king that already exists looks to be a little less than 3" and I think the Priestess is as well, making them shorter than all my other FGs. The two warriors we see with Sir Forscale do look to ride a little higher so I would hope the idea was to design some more imposing models designed with Bones in mind vs the previous ones which IIRC existed in metal first, so they had to be designed for that medium.

LoL, Temple of Existential Evil was ours. I chewed through most of the original party by the time their replacements made it to the third sublevel- where they broke the seals of Zuggtmoy and slept in a room. She appeared as a wandering monster, and devoured the entire party except for one cowardly mage that honor purged to sneak off.

Thanks for that. I can see that now. Frankly I was planning on rearming the Frost giant king if I got him. I may still do, never liked that female frost giant figure, as the female proportions are closer to human I might try to find some 48mm female vikings, if I can.
alternately as the giant females look human proportioned use a fire giant one.

This XXXXL lass could just be repainted as a frost giantess. Or as a generic giantess.

I'm currently in for 2 stone circles and will be adding the graveyard expansion and 1-2 extra grave yard walls for more terrain. I really wish they'd broken up the big guys base for terrain. I'm still sad they don't sell the castle parts from the last kickstarter separately like they did there :(

Not clear if the per-mini cost will be about the same as the Bones KS, or what mini's will be selected. Mini's should be from the Bones I and Bones II lines, and I hope anyone who missed these will be able to get the staple monsters and heroes they wanted!

Yeah, I dunno about the LE KS. I'm in the crazy camp of not thinking there was as much value in this KS as 1 and 2, and I don't think adding paint to the mix is going to do much to help that value. If anything, I feel like it will hinder flexibility on how you use some of the pieces.

Can anyone sell me on Shubniggurath as a counts-as tyranid Forgeworld beastie of some kind, or are the scales and proportions too off?

At the moment I'm looking at grabbing the core set (great value, loads of good stuff for RPGs and skirmish games), Stoneskull (likewise), Graveyard (fantastic terrain!), and frost giants (probably just the two warriors).

The important part is whether or not there is value enough in the current Kickstarter. Comparing it to previous ones is irrelevant. It's like refusing to buy anything in a store ever again after they a had a 50% off sale becuase the prices used to be cheaper that one time.

The great kickstarter bubble of 2011-2013 will never come back. Some of those campaigns were ridiculous in the value they gave away, and I think we're seeing problems with fulfillment (Kingdom Death, Robotech) or choking off the distribution network for sustained sales (REaper, Mantic).

It's both good and bad. I think we're still seeing good value in kickstarters, but companies are seeing that they don't need to give away the store to have a successful campaign. Of course, campaigns that don't offer much of a discount off retail still struggle, unless people are really committed to a project. I'm looking at you, MEdge...

Basically, the "market" is settling down. We're seeing that for most projects from relatively established or well funded creators, the kickstarter is basically an investment of capital, that will be repaid in product. The rate of return used to be sky high, but it's fallen, as more companies show that they can be trusted, while those that offer huge returns are high risk.

I am so relieved that this is Reaper's next Kickstarter - as I have no interest in it.

The only LE figures that I have ever bought, I got to repaint, and long before Bones was a thing.

Bones fills that niche, and my heart with joy. The joy is felt when a cat jumps on the table, and knocks the minis to a tile floor... where they bounce around (and get chased by said cat) but come out undamaged.

They're running a sale so with the code midsum20 he's $55
You don't enter the coupon until you're on the payment step of checkout. He's already reduced to $69 so it drops it 20% more.

Nah, I ended up putting some money on this kickstarter anyway but I saw the coupon when I was comparing sizes of different dragons. If anything, I was just trying to offer a solution to people who got inspired to run a quest with Tiamat but maybe don't want to wait a year before running it.
Which.. all boils back to me looking at reaper and dnd models trying to plan out an adventure I'm going to be running with a really big red dragon. I was actually trying to figure out if the DDS dragon was Colossal or not. I'm running the quest arc that ends with Bastion of Broken Souls.

I'm partial to Dungeon Crawler as the best fit competition to Reaper's Bones. Soon they will have another kickstarter full of monsters and characters offered in painted and unpainted forms. The dwarf owlrider looks like my favorite so far. They also have a behemoth in the works.

It's funny.. I was looking at Dire Rats and GWs Giant Rats for Skaven were one of the cheapest options when purchased as bits. I think they were like $1.50 or something. For bigger stuff it seems like some of the other prepaints are a great option but it's where Bones is at it's best. It's funny though, that Colossal Spider we unlocked at the end of Bones 2 was $15, it's $15.99 in the store now. Probably still one of the better prices you'll find on a spider that big but it takes some of the magic out of the idea of all of these "massive savings" when you sit down and look at the actual numbers. (I only mention it because that's another mini I'll be needing soonish)

I had not seen Dungeon Crawler. The prices look decent but it's looking like fulfillment might be an issue :/

Sort of, otherwise why bother having any different giants (or even sculpts at all). Moreover, there's no particularly good reason for making frost giants cavemen instead of the widely accepted design.

I thought Hill Giants were supposed to be the Cave Man giants, as they have the lowest Intelegence, barely better than an Ogre or Troll.

Actually.. it works out to have both. If you have two distinctly different designs of Frost Giants, you can have an FG war. I was going to use the difference in clothing to represent different classes where I needed a buttload of them though. The existing Priestess would be a good shaman, the spear warrior guy.. who I only barely found https://www.reapermini.com/ShowcaseGallery/lord/latest/65100 would be a good barbarian. Either way, imagination definitely helps. I do prefer the Norse look but I think there is room for both. Personally, I did find the existing king to be diminutive compared to most other Frost Giants out there.

EDIT: Turns out that spear dude is completely discontinued :(

Dunno. Reaper said they'll use "masks" to paint the miniatures. So instead of a paintbrush, they'll spray the paint onto a figure covered by a mask. That's how toys are painted, I believe.
