A SHRUBBERY!!!!!

Ni.......

Anyway thanks for the compliments guys! if you like faces then boy-o-boy do I have a treat coming up for you! as you may be aware I've been working a lot lately and this has impacted my paint time considerably, i've found a few minutes here and there to assemble some Grey Knights etc but as far as sitting down and really cracking into some brush work I haven't had the luxury of time sadly

but thanks to assembling the Knights and getting my plans sorted for the heraldry and colour scheme I have included a number of bodies without helmets for the purpose of adding some great bare heads into them I bought some new ones from Puppetswar I wanted to paint and will be using them when they arrive, as well as some Sternguard heads and a random one I found on ebay so a bit of a face-paint-a-thon will be coming up in a few weeks. I have to also paint a face to resemble my best mate when on the battlefield since I've got my head, he wanted one too and luckily the sternguard head with the beard can look enough like him to pass nicely so I'll do that one first.

hopefully this week I can get more done to Whaleys Warband, there's really not much more to do, skin tones and faces then details and add ons and I think they'd be good to go! then I can Vulkan.......

Hey, speaking recently about heads and faces, I was looking again at the Norse warrior heads from puppetswar and I really like them but now i'm considering a re-do of my own visage! one of them has the same facial hair configuration as i'm sporting with the lower beard no moustache look and shaved head, which is the second from the top but his beard is more bushy than mine on the sides or even the first top one I can nip off the hair and paint the cheeks as stubble as I keep it shorter on the sides of my face and longer into a ducktail type beard

what do you think? a new head for Kaldor Damo?

Those heads are full of character, it would be awesome to see what you can do on them.
So yeah, pick any of those heads, and re-paint yourself.

After all... the other one doesn't look that good... does it ?

I must admit Damo, while these heads are fantastic... I think the self-portrait you did (i.e. the existing one) is better than any of them.

Shhhh Gits.
Let him paint another face. Lots of other faces. THEN maybe, you can tell him that the first one looked better. But it's always good to see Damo painting faces.

The first attempt is meh Damo. Try another head.

Damo, just buy a pack of all the heads puppets war do , magnetise the neck socket and have helmet on / helmet off versions of all your marines !

Chaplain with Hate to Spare

ALL the marines fully personalized with helmets and bare heads!? why that's ludicrous ...... o.k i'll do it! (maybe one day!)

but until then how about half a warband? how about half a FINISHED warband!

here's the group shot to start.

and now the individual pics, I really tried to get a more 'Blanchy' feel to them with darker colours and less sharp highlights but I wanted the faces to be more washed out and full of intent!

And I've decided to just use my Flesh Eaters army for my Armies On Parade entry So I need to paint only one more squad for them! TERMINATORS! They'll be back! at this stage I've primed them red and washed them with Agrax Earthshade and today I began by giving them the first highlight of Vallejo Bloody Red.

And while I do like the original Damo head I would feel I need to re paint it as I don't sport the moustache with the beard any more and I reckon I can do a new one justice, especially if I smooth the sides down marginally to better represent my current guise and if I stuff it up I can always use the original

What is this "Armies on Parade" thing I keep hearing about?? Is that a GW store thing?

Warband looks sick! The shield guys in particular look very grimdark. Funny, since they are the only models that arent 40k in the lot.

Hehe, I just love that look on the second shield guy's face. He has had enough of your heresy...
Gorgeous gorgeous work on the warband. Its everything we could have wanted to see

Man, those reds are just beautiful! Truly your color, Damo. Really psyched to see the Flesh Tearers coming back!

I admit I also think second shield guy is my favorite with his "I'm sick of your Heresy!!" look he has such a cool face

I started work on my Armies on Parade board today, I used some styrofoam to give it a little height at the back and used crumpled aluminium foil to create a couple of shallow craters and the blend from the higher part to the ground. The addition of a row of windows representing the lower part of a building will add some background and the usual battlefield detritus thrown around like ammo crates and broken rubble to add some interest

I used powdered filler with acrylic brown paint mixed in to give the colour and put a handful of blended cork in to add some rough start to the texture of the ground, I spread a thin layer over the whole board and then sprinkled blended up cork over the whole lot and then some fine sand which I then pressed and mixed into the filler with my hands. Once I'd done that I mixed wood glue and water together and liberally sprayed it over the board to seal it all together and give it a hardy finish.

I popped it in front of the fire in my Man shed to dry out and then I used my cans of The Army Painter Primer to coat the rubble and buildings with green and then I sprayed desert yellow at a low angle across the ground and used black for the craters.

it's looking good in m opinion so far with that amount done and next I'll add washes and details and drybrushing

Looking at it with fresh eyes, you should beat up the standing wall and the metal grate in the middle. Would be weird if rubble was still perfectly shaped.

Good point I'll get the dremel out for some drilling and chipping

Both the display table and Inquisitorial Warband look great, Damo. Very nice. If you wanted to add some extra, I'd suggest looking at getting some plastruct I-beam and clipping and bending some to strew around the board.

Another good idea AZ! I actually think I might have some still in my bits boxes somewhere!? I might arrange the army on the board and see where some would fit best?

Actually I can probably take a pic tomorrow of what I want to display on the board before I go further? I've picked my favorite models from my collection (sans Terminators of course) that way we can have a look and see what makes a striking image!

Not where I should be

Those blokes look amazing bud. And nice to see your red back in action.

On the display, I would try and go darker. Your beautiful Red stands out best against dark backgrounds. Fear it may get a little lost in the brown. Looking at the Griffon! (I think!) he's there but muted by the backdrop. Your boys pop so much they may be ok, but I would go a couple shades darker.

2 cents, what do I know!

Love the red on those Marines! Are you airbrushing that highlight?

Thanks Cam, I'll runs some inks and blacks through it to darken it a bit before I dry brush, i'll snap a pic this arvo of the army on it to get a feel

Mymearan wrote:Love the red on those Marines! Are you airbrushing that highlight?

Hey Mym, nope I use a brush on my mini's and only use a dodgy old airbrush that spatters horribly to add shading on my larger models (tanks etc.) I prefer to brush paint where I can and the way I highlight it's easier

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Did some more work on the display board it's really coming along quite quickly! i'm a little suprised but happy I've taken advice on board and darkened it overall with watered brown and black paints and washed the rubble after a quick first drybrush! still more to do but it really shouldn't take long now to finish.

I've painted a little area of green goop to add some water effects to which should look o.k with a little painted detail on it, and i've got to paint the window edging in a gold colour and add the stained glass windows behind them. I also gave the undulations in the terrain a bit of shadow by painting on some darker washes under rocks and around edges

NOW! I also put the army on it and took a few shots to get some feel of the force swarming across the battlefield........ maybe too many shots.......but meh!

first up the progress on the board.

and now with the Flesheaters on it.
