To hell with your fluff, tell me a story with your miniatures.
Let’s face it, fluff is huge part of the draw to a game and should not be underestimated; when it comes time to play a game, what is more important the fluff or the visually striking miniatures that grace the gaming table.
There is only so much you can do with a base box set of miniatures before they start looking homogeneous. I love making special characters, miniatures that represent a scene or action, miniatures that tell a story through their pose or actions.
With this in mind I created the Stormtrooper accessory set. This kit contains a massive number of parts, packs, pouches, accessories, heads, arms, hands and equipment so that you can tell your personal story and unlock your creative genius.
Here are just a few examples of what can be done. Granted I will not win any modeling or hobby awards with what is featured here, my lack of cleanup and exuberant use of glue keep these from being show pieces, but this shows what can be achieved in just a few hours with only a moderate level of care.
Each of these custom figures used the arms, and hands from the accessory set to create unique figures and poses that simply could not be achieved with the normal ten and twenty man Stormtrooper sets.
We start with a Rifleman, equipped with binoculars; he holds his rifle as her surveys his surroundings for enemy action. Standing next to him is the ‘Old man’ a veteran officer, pistol at the ready and pointing at his objective, as all officers do
Next we have a Grenadier, his SMG with grenade launcher slung over his shoulder as he leans back to throw a stick grenade into the enemy ranks, while a rifleman behind him provides covering fire.
We finish up this line up with a platoon sergeant, running into action, two SMG’s blazing away ‘Neo style’. At his side a support specialist, carrying his Panzer Faust in a more traditional method rather than the RPG configuration, his SMG/grenade launcher tethered to his hip.
A couple more shots of the ‘Old man’ in action.
The Grenadier in all his glory.
My homage to the Matrix, this sergeant displays the Hollywood run and gun Neo style.
Hate painting eyes? I do The accessory set contains enough goggled heads to equip 10 troopers and four officers.
Don’t care for the RPG grip style of the anti-tank weapons? This conversion brings us a more old school configuration. Pardon the fish-eye lens effect... it makes the warhead look much larger than it is in the front view pic.
I really enjoyed building these, some of the parts were small and I had to take care with removing them from the sprue so they did not go scuttling across the table but all in all it was a simple job, everything fit as it should and even the little fiddly parts went together with no issues. I used a standard hobby clipper to remove the parts and a swipe from a sharp hobby knife to clean off the remnants of the sprue. Everything went together fast and easy with the use of Testors model cement (Stay away from superglue… the standard orange Testors cement works like a charm and will make a much better bond).
Next up? I need to build out the mechanical MULE’s that are included with this set.
Enjoy!
Mark

Jaw droppingly nice. I actually like that you left the mould lines on because I was wondering how pronounced they'd be. They're not bad at all and should clean up easily.

Very nice indeed
(and just think if you added about half a box worth of weapons onto a single mini you'll be able to use the figure as a standard SF RPG mini....... come on, we all know players tend to horde guns!)

If I may make a suggestion: Drop the renders from the boxart.
I know it makes it easier/quicker to get the coverart done, but the renders really do not do the models justice. You should get some painted figures on the boxes, or at least stop using just colored polygons. The CG is just so bad that it was turning me off until I saw the actual models, which are fantastic!

I agree, but its one of those things when running a KS, we can address that with later re-prints but I did not want to hold delivery for 1-2 months whilst a painter worked their magic

I actually liked the box art for the Leviathan quite a bit! This one works but not sure about the coloring on the head
The models, though- wow
And so apparently plastic glue is the way to go?

Yep 100% model cement. just a dab of glue, put the part in place and let go, even less holding time than super-glue.. the thickness of the cement will keep it where you placed it and the bond is FAR superior to Super-glue.

I was literally just thinking this morning "I wish Mark would post up some more pics of the stormtroopers..." Lo and behold I get back from uni and there they are!
Everything looks fantastic of course, I can't wait to see it all in person next month.
Now get those Mule's built, I have a feeling that the renders do not do them justice!

Here, I fixed it for you
This is what you actually see when not blown up to the scale in the pics... The problem is I can only see the hint of flash with the naked eye, When blown up and the contrast sharpened you see what you cannot otherwise see. Granted, I could have done some photo manipulation to get rid of the lines but I did not have the time for that and it seems somehow dishonest to me.

The following observations are my own and I'm likely in the extreme minority, so take my post for what it's (or isn't) worth.
Looking at all these pictures, I think I've finally figured out what I dislike about DreamForge's infantry. They're too clean. Now I know that an outstanding paint job and weathering powders will do incredible work toward making this stuff more gritty but right now they look like Imperial Storm Troopers from Star Wars less like Death Korps of Krieg even Cadians.
I'm seeing a lot of body armor but not much fabric. I'm seeing clearly defined and properly secured equipment with crisp, clean lines but not damaged, misused or improperly secured accessories that would suggest years of use. None of the equipment here has that "lived in" look to it. The models just seems so antiseptic. It's like we're all playing Imperial Guard armies but using Space Marine models. These figures certainly are the stuff of good science fiction stories but just don't really fit as infantry slogging through the suck of a backwater battlefield. Nothing here says these guys have had to improvise because they don't have the proper materials at hand.
Perhaps something to consider when you get around to designing your next human(oid) faction? Meh, then again maybe I'm wrong about all this. As I said before, these are just my observations and not any sort of critical assessment. I'll keep following this thread to see people pony up to prove me wrong.

I think that is a great observation. but that issue is best solved when painting. If I put (model) a dent in, it will be there for every figure every pose... It would be far better for the modeler to scrape, ding, dent and weather the paint rather than me making a clone army of the same dented gear

Well, from the fluff I'd gather that Eisenkern are one of the, if not THE highest tech and best economy human factions.
Why wouldn't they have the best equipment, training, and resources to replace gear in the field or before deployment?
We're not talking IG regiments on decade long warfronts, slogging in the same trenches day in and day out.
Paint, accessories, and your own customization should help to bring these models to life in their own way.

I agree wholeheartedly with Mark: while there may be a market for "battle-damaged" armor pieces, the foundation of the line should be in top quality gear. If for no other reason then it's so easy to do a number of weathering/damage effects on plastic pieces.

What a great title for the new thread!
Already wondered why it was removed and put somewhre else...
(ach...we fanboys do strange thinge i guess... ...now i dirgress...)
So glad i took 4 boxes of them and also 3 of the heavy weapon sets!
...and i've not yet dreamed about the 7 "Keilerkopf" APC!!!!!! (Round 3 if anyone cares to know )
Now i just think about the possibilities these Afrika Korps...sorry, Stormtroopers migth have with all those gorgeous GW bits to support my Space Sharks at Badab...
...ach the possibilities!
Now... i've seen the fab Eisenkern Mecha ...the Puma....when is the next Kickstarter? I mean a serious one!
A Dropship (to be used for several factions [as it's been in service for some time on all fronts, or given as tithe by the Commonwealth to the Brotherhood and thereafter sold to all]) and some seriously bad and menacing alien? I mean no Bambi like the Sadokesh???? With a good gameplay...no antiquated "it's my turn, it's your turn"???
Ach...one can dream...and forge those dreams into reality...oh you already did that, din't you?

As far as i'm aware it's the second one! The first one IIRC was for the metal incarnation of the Stormtroopers and the Kriegsmarine (where's the Navy when you wan't them? )
Sensible guess is that the Shadokesh will be in the next Kickstarter as the Shadokesh promofigure in this one?
Just my 2 cents.
