Agreed, and I think most people feel this way. More multi-part plastic companies would be a fantastic thing, and for Dreamforge to lead the charge would be even better!

Except Mark and DFGdon't need to "Start competing directly with GW" as they have already blown GW out of the water in every respect where it counts. DFG's customer service, model design (hollow barrels, moving parts, interchangable weapons), and value for money are already way above what GW is putting out these days, to name only 3 areas. There really is nothing that Mark's product can be compared to in the market he is in. About the only things I can think of would be the higher end models of aircraft, or Revell's new London Routemaster Bus kits. I honestly can't think of a single thing in the tabletop wargamming field that is even to the same standard as the figures and vehicles that Mark has shown us through the Eisenkern Kickstarter.

I can't wait to get my stage 1 goodies, and to support DFG further in their next KS.

It'll take Marilyn Monroe, and Lao-Tzu, and Einstein, and Morobuto, and Buddy Holly, and Aristophanes…then all of this…all of this…was for nothing. Unless we go to the stars." You're getting a little ahead of yourself, don't you think? If I walk into my local store, there are zero DFG kits and about 50+ GW ones. There are people playing games with GW models and not with DFG ones. Dreamforge has put out some cool stuff, but it is far from competing with GW.

I haven't interacted with DFG's customer service. GW has traditionally been very strong there but I could easily see DFG beating them thanks to its nature as a smaller manufacturer. In terms of model design, DFG has some impressive stuff, but IMO isn't yet up to the quality of GW's latest sculpts. Hollow barrels, moving parts, and interchangable weapons have been part of GW's designs for a while now, and while DFG certainly beats GW's older kits, I think they are more on even footing with more recent GW releases. Look at the Dark Vengeance set to see what GW's design studio can now produce-- and that's within the constraints of snap-together models! Further, GW has the advantage when it comes to general concepts-- DFG has yet to release anything truly original, while GW has more or less been setting wargaming trends for decades now.

Right now DFG strikes me as competing with Wargames Factory, Mantic, and Defiance Games, not GW. I think DFG is doing the best job of any of those companies, but it's still far from competing with GW, Privateer, Corvus Belli, or even Wyrd. You should keep in mind that I don't say this to insult DFG-- I think they're great and hope that they do, with time, begin competing with the big players-- but merely to point out that there's still a ways to go. I very much like what I'm seeing from Dreamforge and hope that they continue to grow their range of miniatures and operation as a whole.

I think he meant "blown GW out of the water" in the model design of what they're about to release. Of course, they're not a main competitor of GW... at least, not yet!

Flipping through the GoA thread, and looking at a noticeable disinterest towards SoB from GW, I can't help but feel like this would be a good time for some WIP renders of Ada's Black Widow squad to mysteriously appear... </shamelessfishing>

Also, I noticed that DFG is due for a 10-year birthday soon. When that day arrives (whenever it is) I think that's worthy of some celebration as well.

You should be ashamed of fishing for... wait... no. No shame in asking to see those *potentially* beautiful models I will own 20 of!

Seriously though, good to see Phase 2 is going well enough that you could spare time for box art.

lol, I personally think DFG has blown GW out of the water already. They are producing GW quality product for considerably less. If GW made Leviathans they'd be twice the price of what Mark is charging.

Twice the price, mono pose, McDonald's happy meal quality....but it would come with dozens of purity seals.

Well, to price compare, a single leviathan was $90, versus I think $86 for GWs new WHFB chaos brute beast or whatever it is. And its not the same level of fantastic, and it only comes on -2- sprues. Ridiculous. GW doesn't charge you for the kit, it charges you for what it does in the game.

I can't agree with the last statement. GW has plenty of overpriced kits that don't do anything in the game. I'm looking at you chaos spawn

Mark, I was still wondering if the leviathan arms were still going to be available separately later on. I ordered one of each plus a couple for another dakkite, but will be buying more leviathans when they are available. Will I be able to do that or has that ship sailed back to china.

Mark's last update stated that while Stage 1 had slipped, Stages 2 and 3 were still on schedule for March and May, respectively, plus a month for transit and shipping I'd wager. I suspect this is due to Stage 2 being simpler for tooling as it's primarily the Leviathan arms (simple compared to multi-part infantry kits), the Mortis (a lot of components shared with the Crusader) and the 15mm Crusader (the tricksy one, though apparently just a downscaling).

I don't know about the arms, but at last statement they would not be readily available until the corresponding Leviathan was for sale outside of the KS. I don't know if Mark wants to put in some wiggle room for KS backers or what though. It would certainly seem unusual to make them and not sell them, but he might also have some other tricks up his sleeve.

I think they'll be available for sale, just later, when Mark will have made enough to repay the cost of more molds, or something like that.

If Mark can keep up this quality in plastic for other ranges - count me in as a 100% convert from GW as I'm more a modeler than a gamer. The reason I cancelled my pledge for the GoA kickstarter was their mono pose and non-plastic models I wasn't confident of the end result being as good as these. The detail from this production process looks amazing.

Is the USPS international postage price increase going to screw you over too badly Nose Goblin? If you need us to adjust our pledges to pay for it that's perfectly reasonable imo.

I just wish I could add some of those lovely looking Eisenkarn troopers to my pledge, but I couldn't afford to add any more as I was already close enough to triple digits...

I need to find a decent WGF stockist in the UK... I used to get their stuff from Maelstrom.

A UK stockist is a great idea, and might alleviate a bit of the postage burden (eventually, I know the first rewards will ship directly from US).

I know one FLGS who would be happy to stock but he's going to need an EU distributor (and preferably one with a pricelist in euros!)
Can't imagine there aren't more of those and can't imagine there's not some distributors more than willing to take on an extra range of this level of quality, either...

By my calculations (ok, Google Maps) It shouldn't have taken more than three days at a leisurely pace to get from the Port of LA to Salt Lake City (which takes into account a full day spent in traffic in LA)

So the stuff should be on its way to us by now, surely?

Don't forget it is one container on a ship of hundreds if noth thousands. They all have to be unloaded off the ship and hopefully the customs agents don't feel like inspecting our container. Because if they do that will add on lots of time as they open the boxes, assemble a few leviathans and begin selling them on eBay.

That's a good one. As long as they don't build mine.

Still, it's been 8 days now. From what I've heard, ships get unloaded quite a bit faster than this. Raging fanboys demand this.

The container must clear customs (sometimes fast, sometimes slow), arrive at WGF Utah, be unloaded and sorted, some final packaging done (IIRC Mark said some of the assembly instructions would actually be put in Stateside to avoid further delays) and THEN sorted into the actual shipments per backer. With the number of backers, I'd imagine roughly a week and a half from the time it clears customs to when boxes go out the door.

COntainers can clear customs amost instantly

or they can take several weeks (I think one of Reapers took 5-6 weeks to clear for no apparent reason)

I'm good without instructions in the package, just put them up on the dreamforge site like you did with the resin crusader and I'll be fine, just send the plastic, I'm having withdrawals.

Any idea when those people too poor for the kickstarter will be able to preorder the storm troopers?

If they weren't so awesome I'd consider selling some of my 60, at a slight markup of 300% ofc. Mates rates.

Couple years old now (almost), but based on how Eisenkern turned out from the WIP I'd say it's encouraging...
