As the post says....I guess DA, BA, and SW will not get access to these new toys. While I don't mind most of them like Vanguard, Sternguard, and Centurions....I would like to know why no tanks or 'Grav" weapons :(

If this is true the GW's us again. They don't even take us out for dinner first. I may have to resort to using vanilla marines as allies or use them as a primary with my DA as allies.

Calm down, kids.

Dark Angels didn't get thunderfires or stormravens, either. Not too many people complaining about that. Want the new shinies? Play the new shiny book.

Well, apparently the Dark Angels were one of the absolute worst Codex in 5th Ed. I wouldn't really know as I wasn't playing then....but, I will be pretty upset if we do end up being the 'shut up and color' kids again. I am by no means a WAAC player but I can already tell where we have huge gaps that other Codex Armies are filling quite nicely! We all thought our Vets would be more similar to Sternguard (Special Ammo) but that didn't happen....instead we got something in between the Vanguard and Sternguard....if that! Our new special units....LSV, Dark Talon, Jet Fighter, and DW Knights are near useless and the only good unit that came out of it were the Black Knights I wouldn't mind making an Allied Force for my DA's or making them the Allies but it would be nice to at least gain some of the options like the new weapons and the AA Tanks (as we have very little help from that department).

But if there are so few good DA units as you say, wouldn't it be better to take sm as main army and ally in DA units like biker knights ?

Yep...that is exactly what I'm doing with an Iyanden Eldar force. Quite a few new toys that are coming out have the 'Ignore Cover' special rule and that is the Ravenwing grace. Don't even get me started on DW.....
I would put Greenwing at a more competitive level then DW any day but combining the two is a whole new story!

Well, grav guns don't sound that special to me. With what we know of them at present I'm struggling to see what makes them better than plasma or melta.

Rules for the Centurions sound OK, but just OK. Again, I don't think they seem like an auto-take.

Agree with you on the tanks though.

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.

If we had a decent flyer or something else to deal with opponent flyers. I guess I'm going to have to get a SM ally detachment :/

Well they may do another book like they did with flyers, effectively stealing Stormravens from BA and GK (who stole it from BA)

Come back when the new Vanilla Codex gets everything new from the DA Codex. That was the issue last time, but I'm not seeing Black Knights or Power Field Generators in the upcoming Vanilla Codex, so what's the problem?

Which is fine when you're playing a friendly game, however there are a lot of people who think in terms of what you can do at a tourny. I standby the statement that it's really to early to make any solid determinations. Did DA miss out on some cool toys? Maybe. But so did GK, SW, and BA. And BA is currently far worse off then DA. That's where allies come in, and again it is entirely possible (if unlikely) the new C:SM has rules that allow those other chapters access to the new units. (And why not, GW loves money)

Surely this is exactly what the allies rules are for. If there is a shiny or 2 that your force doesn't have access to, ally them in. To be honest it makes sense to use the normal marine codex for the standard DA troops and just use the DA codex for ravenwing or deathwing forces.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I am still hoping they give us a 4-page pdf that allows us to take these units.
Otherwise I might just play C:SM and ally the BA-units I want to play.

The big "point" is that I would LOVE to play grav-guns.
I want to buy Centurions, Vanguard Veterans and the new tanks.
But what if, in a year or so, they decide not to include them in my 6th edition codex?
In that case I am stuck with models that have no use to me.

I agree imp, I think the codex will allow sw ba da to take maybe 0-1 of the new tanks and centurions

So you want all MEQ books rolled into one? Otherwise why would there be numerous books that have the same thing?
Or is it the case of: Others have something we don't? Preposterous! We have something they don't? As it should be, because we're special!

Besides, isn't it a little too early to complain about weapons we know nothing about?

Why would they?
The same thing has happened before, and they didn't do it.
Were you playing during the Storm Shield Debacle?

Then there are Storm Talons, and Thunderfire cannons, all things in C:SM that have not propagated across to other codecies.
Outside of using the Allies system, I'd be very surprised to see any of the new stuff getting moved across via PDF.

If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it.

I happen to find this hilarious. For years I've been told that my vanilla codex is old so I should use SW/BA/DA codex for all the cool toys. Now who's got the new shinies?!

It does make sense for certain chapters to be left out from specific items that they may not have access to. SW might not have grav guns because they are considered dishonorable, while BA don't have Centurions because it doesn't fit their rapid insertion style of combat. What I don't like is when specific items from certain chapters become generic. Nobody outside of GK and BA should have Stormravens, just like BT should be the only chapter with EC. We'll see what else gets stolen for SM.

I agree and disagree with everyone's comments. Like I said, I'm fairly new to the hobby....been playing a little over a year! So when I finally see the new C:SM come down the pipes....to me it seems that almost all Space Marine Chapters should have access to all Armour/Equipment in the Imperium inventory that they see worthy for a SM to carry into battle. To me the Space Marine Codex....is the codex that puts all of the other SM Chapters in it that didn't have enough history???? Maybe I'm wrong (not trying to upset anyone)! I suppose it's a matter of me not knowing or understanding the lore behind each and every chapter. I have only really read and played with Dark Angels so I guess that is all the argument I really can make :/

Aside from the whole idea of complaining before the book is even out...

Seriously - this is what happens when you have your own book. Different codexes are different and since I would bet its some of the same people that refused the idea that being rolled into one codex was a good idea that all want to share in the C:SM toys...

Wake up. New codex means new toys.

You could always houserule the stuff Let's take Blood Angels as an example:
Centurion => Add 20 points and give them Red Thirst.
AA-tank => Make them fast and add 25 points.

I think GW might have been smarter to make the SM codex first and then released BA/BT/DA/SW etc as mini-codexes containing just the special rules, war gear and units applicable to those specific armies.

I'm calling it a mini-codex rather than a supplement as the supplements thus far seem to lack in new/unique units which these armies require.

I don't think anyone ever told anyone to use the DA dex instead of the marine one for anything other then a terminator army and even that was done better with Grey Knights. I think the problem DA players have is that they got a new codex at the start of an edition, as always. Are getting owned by units that came out before their own codex, as always and have no anwsers to the mechanics offten used in a new edition.Again as always. But the realy strange thing for me is were they and the chaos players expecting anything else
