So I want to get into Cryx, and want to be competitive. I know what a lot of you are going to say, "play what you like" "play what looks cool". No. I want to win and don't care how anything looks or any of the ins and outs etc.

I'm jumping over to WMH strictly to play comp.

What do I need to buy to play at different points levels?

I know this comes across as kinda rude, but I'm just looking for some solid answers so I can go buy models.

Also, I like either really shooting or a TAC type list. but whatever is more competitive is what I want.

Thanks guys

Shooting is a bit difficult, because of all the main factions, cryx does shooting probably the worst, preferring combat, spells and trickery for taking the win.

First things first, get the battlebox to learn the game, but also to get pDenegrah and a couple of arc node bone jacks - both are definitely excellent choices.

For future casters, look I to getting eScarre,eDenegrah, terminus and especially eAsphyxious (often called eGaspy on the forums btw). These guys, along with pDenegrah, are foremost in the tournament scene, though cryx has a deep bench of competitive casters and others pop up in tournaments on occasion.

Next, Bane Thralls. The cry of the cryx forum is generally MOAR BANES (also "Keep calm and apply banes"). One unit with the UA (officer and standard) is absolutely a first buy, along with the Bane solo Tartarus. Other great units include satyxis raiders with their U/A (sea witch), and the withershadow combine.
Mechanithralls with a stitch thrall and bile thralls are used fairly often too, in the right lists.

For solos, get the scarlock thrall early on, grab Tartarus with banes, grab the satyxis raider captain when you get satyxis raiders. Darragh wraithe is a also often seen in competitive lists. A couple of pistol wraiths are brilliant, the best shooting in cryx, so you'd probably like them.

Jacks wise, cryx doesn't generally take many. Getting the Deathjack is a definite, but beyond him, it's hard to say.

You'll definitely also want the mercenary solo Gorman Di Wolfe, best 2 pt solo in the game.

There are a bunch of other things that get used occasionally in lists to make strong combos, but the ones I've listed here from the core of most cryx lists. Also, check out endgamegaming.net to see winning lists from various tournaments that might help you.

Hope that helped you a little, even though it's only a list of common pieces.

Many units have two options for unit price when purchasing them, generally referred to as min or max. For most infantry, min is a 6 man unit and max is a 10 man unit, but this isn't the case for all units, some small units have 4/6 where as their min/max, and most heavy infantry have 3/5 as their min/max. Banes, satyxis and mechanithralls are all 6/10 I believe. Some units only come in a set size, like the necrosurgeon and stich thralls. The details are on the units cards, at the bottom where it lists points cost.

Speaking of cards, a great idea is to get the Warroom app, PPs digital card program. The app is a great card reference, and you can get every card in your faction for $6-7 (Mercs not included, they can be purchased as a separate faction).

I'd recommend terminus. He's fairly forgiving and can make use of name knights and thralls, he also uses satixis with blood hag, mechanthralls, bile thralls and stuff.

I dabbled with cryx for a little while and he was a great intro. Let's you get the hang of all the units and isn't so tricksy that it's too intimidating. He's also one of the 'top tier' cryx casters and will certainly go to 3 list events

Have fun

Bane Thralls are 5/8, looking at the book. As for people saying to get banes? Yes, they are a staple in a Cryx army, but be prepared to have very few friends after that.

I think he was referring to their model count, which is 6 for the min unit and 10 for the max. Sort of confused me too when I read it. Cheap infantry are usually 4 for a min unit of 6, and 6 for a max unit of ten. Cryx has mechanithralls which are 3 for the min unit and 5 for the max. I think standard infantry units are 5/8 points for 6/10 models. Cryx does not have many heavy infantry unlike other factions like khador and menoth and Cyriss which all have several units of heavy infantry. Fortunately cryx is very effective at taking down hard targets as their mechanithralls and banes hit obnoxiously hard for their point cost. Be careful with running lots of Banes, they are tough to deal with for many lists, but they are so common that many people will build lists to counter them as many will assume that a cryx player is going to run large amounts of banes. Some factions have numerous ways to counter stealth so do not think for a second that they are invulnerable. I watched a game with cygnar running Siege vs asphyxious running banes and the cygnar player was able to take out the entire unit of bane thralls, half a unit of bane riders, the bane thrall UA, Tartarus, and most of deathjack in one round. Cygnar seems to have the most numerous counters to them, at least from what I have seen.

71 pts khador - 6 war casters
41 pts merc highborn - 3 warcasters
