Kirai
-Swirling Aether
-Unforgiven
-Maniacal Laugh
Datsue Ba
-Spirit Whispers
-Corpse Bloat
Bete Noire
The Hanged
Jaakuna Umbe
The Drowned
Lost Love

My big concerns with this list is that maniacle laugh and corpse bloat may not be worth it. I would like some extra summoning power and with Kirai able to heal Dasue Ba I figured since they were both rear crew characters I could combo upgrades for extra minions on the field and thus have some undead models to bring out my Bete Noire. Also I was concerned about running Bete Noire in the list at all since she isn't a spirit but she is a powerful and maneuverable model, is she a good fit? Lastly, the Drowned seems over priced but he adds great utility. Worth it or no?

Pretre: Are repressors assault vehicles? If they are, I'm gonna need emergency pants.
n0t_u: No, but six can shoot out of it. Other than that it's a Rhino with a Heavy Flamer thrown on if I remember correctly.
Pretre: Thanks! I guess my pants are safe and clean after all.

It really depends on what scheme and strategy are flipped for. The only lists I can really write down now are for Hardcore! format games, as those are known quantities, but otherwise, what is great for one mission might not be so hot for another.

Do you have all of those models, or are you trying to plan out future purchases?

Ill have what i don't currently by wednesday. Do you know whether or not Bete Noire is a good choice? She and the Hanged are my biggest conflicts (as they are both expensive but ones not a spirit and the other is more utility than power)

It seems you're stuck in a sort of 40k list building mentality here. It's very hard to build 'one list to rule them all' with Malifaux because schemes and strategies vary wildly. While some people use a core of units in most games, it's still good practice to have a pool of units you can swap in and out depending on the schemes and strategies to generate. This is due to the fact that crew lists are decided after you've flipped for schemes and strategies.

Some units are going to seem fantastic in their ability to kill things, but lack defense or much in the way of movement, both of which you may need for your schemes and strategies. Alternatively, some may seem pretty terrible because they can't fight their way out of a wet paper bag, but have abilities you'll want for other schemes and strategies.

Personally, when I saw Terror Tots damage ouput and duability, I was pretty underwhelmed, even after being told by people that they're great scheme runners. It wasn't until I had some games that I came to appreciate the sheer speed they get from Sprint, and the utility of Pounce when combined with units that can Push models around (particularly after delivering some hurt already like Teddy and the Mature Nephilim). Add to that their cost, and the ability to Grow them into more powerful units with the right upgrades or select units taken alongside them, and now I'm a huge fan.

As Loki just said both will be good,I feel. Just depends on what you need to accomplish during the game. So by all means, get both you will be a lot more versatile. Personally, I like most of the new plastic, so I would wait for the Drowned to come out again.

So I came up with a little problem last night.

Do spirits drop counters? I haven't had a chance to purchase the book yet, I have the arsenal decks, but not Crossroads.

Before anyone tells me to look at the 1.5 ed, I know much must have changed. For instances, Spirits do not get incorporeal de facto.

So aside from the counter drop, any other standard features of spirits I should be aware of?

That's an extremely low model count (at most 2/3 the number I'd take), to add to what others have said.

Mathieu, I assume you mean 2e- Now things only drop counters when they say they do (living/uncead drop corpse; construct drop scrap), which I think is different than the old system?

Spirit is now just a tag like Beast or Guard where its only special when things that interact with it specifically, so an undead spirit would drop one, for instance. Like you said, incorporeal is now separate.

I don't mean to hijack the thread at all but this seems like a fitting place to ask, I really like Kirais theme, Japanese ghosts are awesome. I know that you don't build one list in Malifaux, you more have like a sideboard of models, what models work well with Kirai?

Other than the ghost theme, the obvious candidate I've heard is the Flesh Construct, since it has a ton of health and effectively regenerates, which works well with her damage-based summons.

I believe the full list of spirits, with asterisks by japanese-themed guys. Toshiro and Chiak (the two japanese-themed non-spirits) are both useful in their own right regardless of synergy (support/decent fighter/summoner and support, respectively), so I think it'd be pretty straightforward to do a fully japanese resser list, especially if you include generic/non-cultural things like zombie dogs for flexibility.

Jaakuna Ubume*

Izamu. Don't forget him. Not a spirit per se, but undead, and japanese. And killy. Ashigaru too, especially if you use Toshiro. Although, again, not spirits.

I'm just solidly in love with Izamu.

Would playing just the spirit side of ressers be really limiting? I don't so much like the zombie side (I like Seamus but I don't like the rotten belles, Nicoderm seems boring, don't like McMourning) but I love the Asian spirit side of it.

Izamu actually is a Spirit along with being Undead...

Problem solved!

It's not limiting per se, because there is a little bit of everything in spirits, I find. I only wish Night Terrors weren't Insignificant.

You can sprinkle a few cool things, like Bete Noire, without ruining the mood. Ying is another cool model without it being a spirit per se. And if you want to go outside the theme, there are always Horrors, with Molly.

Did I also happen to mention Izamu? Just in case.

Well yeah there's certain models I like that are more the fleshy side, Yin, Bete Noir, Flesh Constructs, the Nurses, it's really just the actual zombie stuff but they make up a big part of Nicoderm and Seamus' play I assume, and I just hate the model for McMourning...

What are Horrors? are they another class of undead?

And yeah, Izamu is awesome haha. I thought he was a spirit anyway

Horrors are a class of undead that started out as the weirder and more sentient ones, but has since become a kind of confusing list of things they want horror summoners to be able to summon, as far as I can tell.

What models fall under the Horrors class?

Not sure if this is a complete set:

the Student set
crooligans
punk zombie
guild autopsy
rogue necromancy
drowned
killjoy
molly

...I forgot, there's also now a Horror-specific upgrade, too, for a little more incentive running a list of them.

Thanks. I'm still trying to decide what crew to start with. I really like Kirai, but like I've said some of the other ressers do nothing for me. I tend to like a couple of masters from each faction -.-

You could go for dual factions, then. That's what I did. I started with Kirai, then got Misaki and I have been filling the gap between the two with Yan Lo ever since.

Does anyone know of any decent proxies for Gaki? I've been interested in getting a bunch of Spirits to run with Kirai, but one I can't get my hands on at all are Gaki because the metals are hard to get.

Theortically, Gaki will be available at Gencon. I've seen people use GW/Mantic Ghouls (Gaki are basically Asian themed ghouls), Bushido miniatures, and green stuff on zombies.

Oh awesome. I might just wait to add Kirai and some Gaki to my gencon order then.

Shikome and Drowned are incredibly likely to make an appearance. Hopefully Gaki will too. I fully expect Datsue Ba (who is fantastic) to come out in plastic with 2 more Seishin.

I'd love for Lizzy Lovelace to come out and complete my Ressers/Outcasts, but it's not likely
