Calandra (+5)
2x Slag Trolls 10
Storm Troll 4
Pyre Troll 4
Janissa 3
Max KSB w/ SSE 5
2x Warders 10
Runeshapers 4

The list takes advantage of Calandra's theme list to gain the following: Reduced costs on all warbeasts, adv. deployment on all light beasts (all of the beasts in the list), and the KSB starts with 2 fury.

The thought is that 'jacks will be taken care of by the Slag Trolls, the other 2 beasts are there for animi to help with Hordes armies. Other than that Calandra's Star-crossed spell+KSB+double Warders make a really hard brick. The Runeshapers are there for additional support/ targets of opportunity.

What do you think guys?

Problem here is that, assuming this is your anti-warmachine list in a 2-list format, you lack some hitting power because the slags can only do so much and take so much. The storm troll is really best when it can give the animus to a unit of Warders or slaughterhousers who have reach and are infantry.

so would you drop the second slag and pick up a second storm? that would allow me to drop the Storm's animus twice without touching her fury.

Only thing i worry about is that I'd lose some heavy 'jack killing by not having the second slag. Would it be worth it?

It would give me a spare point, but i don't know what I would do with it.

Here's your problem: you've got up to 12 fury out there max, and will use quite a bit of it each time to take full advantage of animi and such. List like this to counter Warmachine needs the basics of Earthborne, Storm, and max Warders and Calandra of course. With so many lights, while you have a ton of transfer power they aren't hard to kill off and then you lose transfer power quicker. Plus each beast will only be able to do so much before being capped on fury (remember your almighty slag is only Fury 3 with like Pow 14 or 16 tops). Take the Earthborne and you'll get min pow 15, with a good likelihood for pow 20+ on both fists and Fury 5, so up to 6 punches before he can't punch anymore and still be able to transfer.

Moving on to the Warders. This awesome unit has 8 boxes and reach. Combined with electroleap they have the ability to reach farther out infantry and kill them by hitting their buddies. A unit of banes could conceivably be killed by a few warders with electroleap.

No idea how many points the 4 core models come out to, but you should have enough room for max stone plus the extra guy that prevents continuous effects among other things.

Ok, I'm confused. Are you suggesting I take 2 max stones and 3 warders? because the list I posted already has 2 warder units and a max KSB with UA. Or are you suggestiing that I drop a beast and go for max warders instead of min?

You might be able to get by with min warders, but definitely grab a heavy of some sort, and preferably Fury 5 one. You can only have 1 stone, so you're fine there though definitely grab the UA for all the point it will cost you. Test out min warders and see what works for you, but max gives you more coverage.

So I played against a list super similar to your original and it was dang scary. The warders are true powerhouses. I think he did one of the tier lists and it pretty much wrecked my face. I stand corrected as to the viability of the list, especially backed by Star Crossed.

The list is the tier list from NQ. It really adds a lot to the list, dropping the cost of all her beasts by 1, starting the KSB with some charge, giving her light beasts adv deploy.

Only problem is that lvl 4 requires the mountain King... Which is mostly anti-infantry, something the trolls have exactly 0 problems handling

And at that point you're running Mountain King and you'd rather have a few lights at half the cost for more Fury and more boxes. of damage to take in addition to more models on table to get even more utility out of.

More importantly there is no requirement that you have to run every tier list at T4. She can actually run the Mountain King pretty well in tier, because you have most of the tools you want to run him (KSB, Janissa etc) but the list is so much stronger just spamming lights. The version I usually see run has 1 or no Warders, they are a second wave behind the beasts and you really only need them to punch down the really hard targets like Colossals, 2 buffed up Troll light is usually enough to most other stuff.

At 35pts I would probably only be running 1 unit of Warders to get a couple more lights in there. In either case the main thing the list needs is Whelps. Soothing Song is amazing but has some activation order issues, and with this many lights you don't really care if one frenzies, but Whelps are great for managing your Fury properly and are a huge pain when combined with Star Crossed.

Ok, if I drop a slag for another pyre, and drop the two groups of warders down to one max unit, I could afford two groups of whelps. Do you think that would work better?
