Good Batreps keep it up.

Side note: As a Chaos Dwarf player I must say that both reports your opponents were terrible in list selection and commanding. Were there comp rules in effect that were driving list development? I am assuming not as you had a lot of nasty toys.

Glad you enjoy the reports. There were minor list restrictions but nothing crippling by any means so I cannot say much about list construction for them. What would you have done differently?

Too many characters...all you need is the Lvl 4 Sorcerer, the BSB and one Demonsmith. The Sorcerer has the Demonsmith rule as well so positioned correctly you are getting two engineer rerolls as needed. The other demonsmith can babysit two seperate war machines as he can look out sir to any machine with in 3" so position him between two machines. Too many hobgoblins in that unit, they are really good as Stikkas and then to use as chaff.
The Iron demon on paper looks fun (and it is) but its not a competitive choice, and the magma cannon is hands down a "take at least one in every army".
Blunderbuss are expensive, but can be really REALLY nasty...especially if running metal shenanigans....brings up another point...demonsmiths are level one...upgrade is not worth the points, you want him for his engineer abilities anyway.
You already know that guy running the K'daii at the fellblade was not smart. Problem with new generals is they think the K'daii walks through units, and IT DOES, but you have to select the appropriate units to send it at. He is easily handled if you allow the opposing player to pick the battle.
If you're running the hellcannon then you should run the Lvl4 on death for leadership shenanigans. If running Hashut then play the Dreadquak mortar and lock down two units a turn from moving...the magic needs to really complement the build.
I know the consensus is that CD core is so expensive that you want the bare point minimum and then get other stuff....but that is actually a bit of a trap as the super low model count of the army actually sort of requires you to spend some points on bodies.

Let a billion souls burn in death than for one soul to bend knee to a false Emperor.....

I see no flaws in any of the logic you stated. A frequent opponent plays CDs so I know many of their rules but I have never sat down with the book and analyzed it. One guy at a tournament tried to tell me the flame cannon isn't very good and he would rather have a death-shrieker. To which I kindly smiled and said "To each his own." but in my mind I was dumbfounded, especially as an Ogre general.

The death shrieker has more utility and range, and of course can deal with big monsters and characters, but for consistent performance the Magma cannon wins hands down. In addition as this is the edition of steadfast blocks and hordes, one or two can quickly make their points back.

THIS. IS. WARHAMMER.

Spoiler: not really. What a bummer of a match - even more so than those armies / players who just 'play for the draw', I have to wonder why these folks enter tournaments that revolve around actually playing a game. But maybe that's just my own thinking getting in the way. Since I don't play WAAC armies and I don't paint like a god and my luck is decidedly nuts, I know I will just about never break out from the middle of the pack at a GT. So why do I go? To play five games of Warhammer in a weekend, drink some drinks, and have an impetus to get my models painted. So attending a gaming event with the expectation of not gaming? Bizarre.

That said, it was interesting to see the extreme VP denial of the Portaglyph put into practice. Up until yesterday I had only heard Internet murmurings of the possible shenanigans ...

Glad you enjoy them.

This is a good way to approach the tournament scene. There is a large component of luck involved in winning a GT not that it doesn't take a fair amount of skill as well. So your main priority should be to play some warhammer against some pretty armies and have some laughs. For me, I sincerely enjoy a competitive game in addition to these things.
