Lets just say I got a warning from a moderator, and I wondering how long a 'temporary' ban on quick reply lasts for?

I believe it depends on the infraction and how many times you've been warned before.
IIRC, your first will only be a couple days.

I believe that it depends on the nature of the infraction, previous warnings issued, prior history, etc. Did you receive a PM from the Moderator who issued the ban stating the length, or is there any text above the quick reply box?

You cannot check your PMs when you're banned as you can no longer access the forums on your primary account, but any ban will go along with an e-mail sent to your respective adress.

He's talking about the disable of quick reply, often known as a warning.

If the suspension is generated by the Red Triangle warning system which is a quick response system for moderators to use to impose penalty points for minor offences, it revokes your Quick Reply facility for two or three days, but you still have access to other site facilities.
Suspension of your general account privileges lasts from one day to 100 years depending on the severity of the offence and other factors. It is set individually by the moderator. Typical suspensions are for one week, two weeks or a month but usually do not start until you have racked up a number of Red Triangle points. Of course if your first ever post goes, "feth the Police, Crazy fether named Yakface, in a gang called [ see forum posting rules] with Attitude" or something, you will get a pretty severe suspension straight away.
When your account is suspended, denying you access to the system, private messages and so on, the moderator will send you an email by GMail to explain what has been done.

Normally the moderator will lock one of your accounts and inform you that users are only allowed to use one account. But if you did the same thing again, after having been warned, you would be in danger of a permanent suspension.

I would be surprised if that would become an option, because it seems that it would encourage people to game the punishments.
Example:
Man, cincydooley wrote a really stupid stupid post. I really want to tell him just how big of an idiot he is.....*checks current punishment history on the naughty section of my profile*...heck, I haven't been that bad, and a one day ban is totally worth it *posts the most creative and impressive way to break Rule #1 in the history of Dakka*

What if you used one account years ago, and you can't be bothered to dred up an inactive email account to use it/joined the military so you ended up making a new one entirely?
( TL;DR Make new account, after barely using an old one from years ago, never use old one at all.)

I just had a 9 dayer which is my longest ever (and was most thoroughly deserved) the mods do a great job.
Now that I have sucked up, do i get reduction of red triangle points. LOL, I just realised who else used triangles as a marking system. Is this a coincidence? I think not!

Just don't go too far.
Dakka isnt a thought police forum, feel free to speak your mind on most topics, even the world's pains, excepting the stuff normally discussed on sick sites.
Know your limits; but feel empowered to stand your ground. You dont have to agree with people, just dont disagree for the sake of disagreement, if you have a disagreement explain what it is logically.
Make an attempt to be polite to everyone, even if attacked;
Stick to the topic, you can attack an argument, but don't attack a person.
If they attack you don't respond in kind, stick to the issues.
Dont carry baggage from earlier threads, even if someone else clearly does. If you find someone who is completely opposed to you in worldview but wants help with an army list or tactic, or game reference, be one of the ones to help them.
If you find out you are wrong, in full or in part, dont be too proud not to modify your opinion.
Do all this and it really doesn't matter on what topic you post, its how you post it.
I am one of the most controversial forum members and have opinions that go against the majority or vocal minority on a wide range of topics.
And many of those topics are things like law, politics, religion and ethics; and they can be heated. Some people don't like me much.
Yet I have never been banned from Dakka in the fifteen years I have been here, in fact I haven't had any formal warnings that I recall, though many threads I was on have been locked.
Probably because I stick to my limits, try to be polite, even if I don't always succeed, and hold no grudges.
Dakka is IMHO hands down the best forum on the internet, bar none.
It is pretty much the only place where you can discuss just about anything, pr0n and sicko bait excepted, and find intelligent people who don't agree with a word you are saying but are willing to argue against you logically and respectfully; and those voices usually drown out the troll replies rather than the other way around. Unlike the internet global meme people do find points of view are tempered and even changed here.

IIRC I joined old Dakka early 2001, so just short of 15 years. I rounded up a little.

That counts as thread necronization as well as sock-puppetting so you get a double suspension.
