Hey folks, I'm thinking of trying some variant of this fleet out in the Massing of Sullust.

The thing is, I'm not particularly brilliant at the game (massive understatement), never played it in a time limit and don't really know what I'm doing a fair chunk of the time...

Anyhow...

Objectives: Precision Strike, Intel Sweep, Hyperspace Assault

REBEL FLEET (300 points)

Assault Frigate Mark II B - Mon Mothma - Raymus Antilles - Expanded Hangar Bay - Electronic Countermeasures
CR90a Corellian Corvette - Leia Organa
CR90 Corellian Corvette B - Engine Techs - Dodonna's Pride
Luke Skywalker
X-wing Squadron
X-wing Squadron
X-wing Squadron
Y-wing Squadron
Y-wing Squadron

The first version of the fleet had an X-Wing Squadron and a Y Wing squad in place of Luke and Leia. I played another game with the fleet above and I ended up not using Leia at all. - I'm wondering if it's worth dropping her for the Initiative bid. Or, alternatively, Swap out a Y-Wing for an X-Wing, maybe?

What do you fowks think?

Keeping Leia is going to be a decision based on how you're gonna use your fleet. Are your ships gonna be split up most of the time? Then don't bring her. Are your ships gonna stay together to hit a VSD from the side? Then keep her.

Otherwise, your fleet looks fine. I'd be interested to see how you do though. There seems to be push among some players for All ship fleets, but I think if you keep some of your fighters near the AF-IIB, you should be able to lay some serious hurt on any Imperial ship.

Lukes decent, running more squadrons doesn't necessarily equate to better as they really need commands to be of good use. With 5 hull value and 2 braces he's got good durability. Punching through regardless of shields is also great, at the range you'll be shooting at defence tokens can't do much either.

Countermeasures and raymus on the frigate make for quite a durable combination. I wouldn't say the expanded hanger bay is essential though. Mon mothmas ability is nice, but she's quite a cost. The leia ship can be decent in dual assault frigate lists as its easier to get milage out of it. But in this setup I'd tend to run the frigate as mainly repair once its engaged and the squadrons have gone out. So I'd wouldn't expect to get too much use out of Leia.

I'd run Dodonna as a commander, with the dodonnas pride and Luke, you've a few ways of doing damage through shields. The damage decks pretty nasty in general and Dodonnas power can really help even the playing field against those star destroyers. Could take a nebulon escort, 10 more than the CR90A with Leia which is the commanders difference. Drop the expanded hanger bay and put Yavaris title on the escort. X wings are good, but will loose out the majority of the time if swarming TIEs get the squadron dial initiative. So double attack is great for prolonged engagements. Corvettes are plenty mobile, with the title take leading shots on the CR90B for blue die re rolls. Most of the time you're rolling for crits on Dodonnas pride.

AFM2B - Dodonna, Raymus, countermeasures
Escort - Yavaris
CR90B - Pride, Leading shots
Squadrons same

That should be 296 I think. Having the initiative is important with dodonnas pride I've found. Otherwise it can be hard to line up a good shot.

If your attack is going too well, you have walked into an ambush

The easy way is always mined

I went with my Fleet Minus Leia and I'm glad to say "Operation Kill a Gladiator and Bug Out" was a moderate success!

There were only 5 of us, playing with my results being 2 wins and a loss/almost-a-draw against the tournament winner (exactly 20 points different). - This gave me 3rd place and a MC30 Frigate away home with me!

Now the question is, can I make a decent list out of Wave 0, Wave 1 and a MC30 at 400 points?

In a 400 point list, you can fit 2 Whales, the MC-30 and a CR-90A. The Whales and the MC-80 broadside everything while the CR-90 grabs objectives.

Yeah, the thing is I really hate the space whale. I almost didnt buy the one I owned, nevermind buying a second.

How about, if keeping to the same theme for 400pts?

Assault Frigate Mark II B - Mon Mothma, Raymus Antilles, Flight Controllers, Expanded Hangar Bay, Electronic Countermeasures
CR90 Corellian Corvette B - Engine Techs, Dodonna's Pride
CR90a Corellian Corvette
MC30c Scout Frigate Lando Calrissian, Redundant Shields, Assault Proton Torpedoes, Foresight
Luke Skywalker X-wing
Y-wing Squadron x2
X-wing Squadron x3

Might give some upgrades to the CR90a instead of the Scout Frigate or the Assault Frigate - But then, he's supposed to be less of a threat, I suppose.

Eh, the only problem I have in bringing two CR-90's is survivability vs firepower. Yes, they're fast and nimble and great at taking objectives, but they don't output too many dice (fixable with Expanded Armament and Ackbar), and, versus the bigger Imperial ships, they tend to die a lot.

Personally, I'd try to shoehorn in a Nebulon-B Escort with Yavaris and two B-Wings, but that would result in having less fighters to work with. However, you can at least get some B-Wings (and an A-Wing) in there by dropping the Y-Wings, an X-Wing, and Lando (seriously, you'd have the equivalent of 5 evade tokens with him and Foresight).

Honestly, as I said before, I'm a believer in there being no current meta. Try it and see if it works.

(At least until the rest of Wave II comes out and you can buy more MC30c's and MC80's).
